It doesn’t look like Alexander Gustafsson will get the immediate rematch he had hoped for after his epic battle with Jon Jones at UFC 165. Instead it appears that Jones will be back in action most likely at the UFC’s Super Bowl weekend event in New Jersey. According to an ESPN report earlier today Dana White  says that Jones has requested to fight Glover Teixeira.

“That’s what the champ wants. We’ll probably have that fight on the Super Bowl card in New Jersey”

White went on to say that no date has been set but he expects Gustafsson to fight in his native Sweden. Although that has to be disappointing for Gustafsson, Jones has said he wants to shatter the record of title defenses and then give Alexander the rematch that many want to see.

Teixeira became the heir apparent to the top contender’s spot when he knocked out Ryan Bader  earlier this month in his native Brazil. The second round stoppage made it five victories in a row for Teixeira since his UFC debut back in May of 2012.
