UFC CHAMP JONES: “YOU’LL SEE ME SURPASS TITO’S RECORD THIS WEEKEND. IT’LL BE DOMINATION, BABY.”

Exclusive Jon Jones and Alexander Gustafsson Interviews On UFC TONIGHT This Week

LOS ANGELES, CA – On this week’s UFC TONIGHT, UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and challenger Alexander Gustafsson talk about the their upcoming title fight at UFC 165.

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones on dealing with Alexander Gustafsson’s reach: “I think Alexander uses his reach really well, but he doesn’t use his as well as I use mine. If you watch his fights, he gets hit in the face a lot. He does a lot of things that I do, but I think I do them better.”

Jones on Daniel Cormier fighting Glover Teixeira in a number-one contender fight: “I think that’d be a phenomenal fight. I think Glover will win that fight. Cormier is a pretty decent wrestler, but he’s not ready for high level fighting in the light heavyweight division.”

Jones on if he’ll move to heavyweight: “I think it’s in my near future. I’m excited about moving up and challenging some of these guys. If Cain can do what he’s done at that weight, I believe I can do it as well. I do things that heavyweights aren’t used to seeing.”

Jones on why people should watch the fight this weekend: “You’ll be able to witness a dream come true. You’ll see me surpass Tito’s record. I’m more dominant than ever. My cardio is better than ever. My tactics are better than ever. It’ll be domination baby!”

Alexander Gustafsson on what Jon Jones will try to do against him in the fight: “I don’t know what to expect. I know he’ll go for a takedown, but I don’t know when he’ll do it. I will be in the cage with no thoughts and ready for anything.”

Gustafsson on if he can go five rounds against Jones: “It’s not an issue. I’m ready to go all five rounds. A perfect fight for me is a finish, but I’ll go all five if I have to.”

Gustafsson on his biggest change in his training approach since his loss to Phil Davis: “In my thinking of the whole thing. I know what it takes to be a professional fighter and to compete with the best in the world. You need to give everything you have. You need to live MMA.”

UFC TONIGHT host Chael Sonnen on what Jones needs to do in the fight: “Watch out for Jones takedowns. His ground and pound is vicious and his submission game is often overlooked. His keys to victory are his 84 inch reach, he needs to vary his attack, and he needs to pass the guard.”

UFC TONIGHT host Kenny Florian on what Gustafsson needs to do in the fight: “He’ll be taller than Jon Jones, the first time in Jones career that someone will be taller than him. He’s an excellent striker. He gets phenomenal angles on his opponents. The keys are to get off to a good start, to avoid the takedowns, and use his footwork, and circle away from the forward pressure by Jon Jones.”

Florian on how interim bantamweight champ Renan Barao will beat Eddie Wineland: “If Eddie Wineland catches Renan Barao with that power, he can finish him. But I’m going with Barao. His game is too complete and he really wants that shot against Dominick Cruz.”

TJ Grant on losing his title fight because he’s not recovered yet: “It’s frustrating, but at the same time it’s life and you have to deal with it. I’m going to be back fighting. I didn’t lose my last fight. If I have to fight someone else, I will. My sights are still set on the title.”

UFC TONIGHT Insider Ariel Helwani on breaking an upcoming flyweight championship fight: “UFC President Dana White confirmed that Demetrious Johnson will fight against Joseph Benavidez for the second time at THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER Finale on November 30 on FOX Sports 1.”

Helwani on Daniel Cormier wanting Roy Nelson to shave his beard before their fight: “Daniel Cormier told me yesterday, he’s going to officially file a complaint with the Texas commission to have Nelson shave his beard. He wants it off. Roy Nelson said that if this beard gives me an unfair advantage, maybe Cormier should have had a beard when he failed in the Olympics in 2008 and 2004. It remains to be seen if it’ll happen.”
