UFC officials have announced that former WEC featherweight champion and current top five bantamweight Urijah Faber will take on current top five bantamweight and former number one contender Michael McDonald in the co-main event of UFC on FOX 9.

The event will take place on December 14 in Sacramento, California, the hometown of Faber, so its only natural that he’s on the card. The rumor is that Anthony Pettis will look to defend his newly crowned UFC lightweight title against TJ Grant in the main event, but UFC officials have not confirmed that at this time. The venue will be the Sleep Train Arena (formerly Arco Arena).

Faber (29-6) is coming off a hard fought unanimous decision victory over Yuri Alcantara in his last outing in August. Faber has won three consecutive bouts since losing to interim UFC bantamweight champion Renan Barao in July 2012.

McDonald (16-2) is coming off a second round submission win over Brad Pickett in his last outing in August. It was McDonald’s first bout since losing to interim UFC bantamweight champion Renan Barao in February.

The winner of this bout will likely get another shot at the winner of the Barao/Eddie Wineland fight that is set for UFC 165 later this month.
