UFC 164 PLAY-BY-PLAY:

Round 1 – Longtime coming for Palelei’s return to the UFC. Looking forward to this match-up. Krylov is the youngest UFC fighter on the roster at 21. Leg kick from Krylov caught, pushed to the cage, slams him on his back. Krylov holding Soa’s neck from half guard. Soa drops a right hand. Krylov defending well but takes a few shots. Krylov punches off his back, heels to the kidneys. Krylov goes for Soa’s arm, has it trapped. Soa touches up his face and Krylov is forced to let go. Full mount and punches from Soa and Krylov gives up his back. Krylov escapes and lands a flurry of punches. Soa covers up and fires back. Krylov is much lighter than Soa and stamina could be a factor. Soa has a body lock from the back. Krylov goes for a standing guillotine but Soa is able to put him back down with just over a minute to go. Krylov has never been to round two. Krylov goes for a triangle. Soa gets to side control, knee to bell and lands a few punches. Krylov fighting off his back with knees and punches. Krylov goes for a cradle from his back. Soa escapes. Soa not doing damage but maintains top control until the bell. PMN sees it 10-9 for Palelei.

Round 2 – Krylov comes out quick with punches. Soa gives him a front kick then puts Krylov on his back. Soa on top in half guard. Soa gets full mount and lands some right hands. Krylov gives up his back. Krylov attacking an arm, lets it go and lands some punches off his back, gets to his knees, goes for a single on Soa. Soa lands a couple nice right hammerfists. Krylov is up, body lock from Soa against the cage. Both guys fading after spending a ton of energy in this dogfight. Soa drops levels and gets a double leg. Ref stands them up though. Two minutes to go. Nice right from Krylov, backs Soa to the cage with punches and knees. Soa eats them all and wings a huge right. Krylov drops levels for a single. Clinch fighting, dirty boxing from Krylov. Soa fires back and misses. Krylov with some nice knees. Soa is taking a ton of shots, tries to fire back but nothing on the punches. Big knee and left hand from Krylov. Right from Soa. Uppercut from Krylov. Round 1 – Leg kick Camus. Fast left high kick from Kang misses. Left hand from Camus. Double jab, right from Camus, right hand to follow, again. Right from Kang, front kick, then a perfectly time double leg to put Camus on his back. Camus punching off his back. Camus attacks a leg but Kang maintains top control, trying to land some ground and pound and pass the guard. Lands a right. Kang looks to mount, caught in half guard. Nice left elbow from Kang. He gets to side mount. Camus has an arm trapped between his legs, Kang gets his arm out, lands a big right elbow. Back inside full guard. Nice elbows off his back from Camus. Kang lands a nice right elbow from top. Kang stands up, tries to pass but Camus using upkicks and catches him back in full guard. Kang staying very busy. Camus escapes from the bottom to his feet before the bell. PMN has it 10-9 for Kang.

Round 2 – Kang with a trip takedown, postures up with the attack, caught in full guard. Camus tries to kick him off and spring to his feet but Kang is right back on him and maintains control from half guard now. Camus recovers full guard. Both guys staying busy. Kang postures up with big punches. Kang gets to half guard, then almost to mount but Camus catches him in half guard. Body shots from Camus off his back. Kang with heavy top control, staying tight. Gets to side mount. Camus escapes, Kang goes for an armbar (belly down) but Camus is free and on top inside full guard. Camus gets to half pretty easily, drops some short elbows. Kang recovers full guard. Gets his back to the cage and looking to get up but Camus pulls him down, scramble, Camus has his neck from the back, Kang spins around, Camus lands some punches. Kang recovers half guard. Elbows from the bottom from Kang and hammerfists from Camus before the bell. PMN sees it 10-9 Camus.

Round 3 – Front kick Kang. Camus shoots, sprawl from Kang. Nice right hand from Camus snaps Kang’s head back. Right from Kang. Kang presses forward as they both throw heat. Big one two from Camus. Kang still toe to toe, shoots, sprawl from Camus but Kang is able to push through and put him on his back. Kang on top in half guard, looking to pass. Camus gets Kang in his full guard. Kang lands an elbow, postures up with a big right, staying very tight now in half guard. Under 2 minutes to go. Camus kicks him off and gets to his feet. They square up. Camus misses with a right. Camus lands a knee to the face as Kang shoots in. Kang is able to secure a takedown though and is on top inside full guard. One minute to go. Kang postures up, up kick from Camus. Kang inside guard, postures up and gets almost knocked out with an upkick. Camus pours it on with punches before the bell and Kang just somehow survives to the bell right before the ref stops it. I think Camus should get the nod with that amazing comeback. That upkick basically KO’d Kang.  PMN sees it 10-9 Camus and 29-28 for the fight for Camus.

Krauss scores with a punch, leg kick. Left hook from Lim. Jab Krauss, nice right hand. Lim fires back, just misses a high front kick. Krauss with a front kick to the body. Leg kick, Lim catches it and dumps him to the mat. Lets him up. Jab from Krauss. Inside leg kick. Left, right from Krauss. Nice right from Lim. Left hook scores. Nice right buckles Krauss and he goes down. He makes his way up but is hurt and wobbly. Lim chasing him down, big knee to the body. Head hunting. Krauss lands a nice right. He shoots, sprawl from Lim. Krauss up, eats two big right hooks and a knee to the face that puts Krauss down and out. Lim lands a couple more punches before the ref steps in. TIM ELLIOTT (9-3-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) VS. LOUIS GAUDINOT (6-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC)

Round 1 – Front kick Elliott, inside leg kick, again. Front kick. Gaudinot takes an eye poke and time is called. Leg kick, left hook from Elliott. He then scores a takedown, locks up the neck from half guard. Gaudinot gets free, takes some heavy body shots. Gaudinot goes for an armbar, upkick as Elliott escapes to his feet. Punche exchange, flying knee from Elliott. Inside leg kick from Gaudinot. Inside leg kick from Elliott. Gaudinot turns him to the cage. They separate to the center and trade strikes. Elliott dives for a leg, misses. Knees and a left hand from Elliott after walking through Gaudinot’s punches and before scoring a nice takedown. Eliott inside full guard, dropping continuous ground and pound. Gaudinot gets to his feet. Eats a couple knees and a big elbow from Elliott. Elliott then puts him on his back. Elliott with the ground and pound before the bell. PMN sees it 10-9 Elliott.

Round 2 – Elliott slips on a jump kick. Back up. Leg kick Gaudinot. Leg kick inside, left hook, another inside leg kick from Elliott, jumping knee and elbows. Gaudinto with the occasional counter. Elbow from Elliott. Leg kick Gaudinot. Body kick follows. Side kick to knee from Elliott. Nice punch combo and knee from Elliott. Gaudinot fires back with leg kick and right hand. Half the round down. Nice punch combo from Elliott. Using a lot of switch stance. Scores a takedown. Postures up with elbows and punches from half guard. Elliott continues with the ground and pound. Dives for an ankle at the bell. PMN sees it 10-9 for Elliott.

Round 3 – Takedown from Elliott early in, takes half guard top control. Dropping elbows and punches now. Nothing too significant but staying busy. Gaudinot gets to his feet as Elliott drives knees to the thighs. Gaudinot escapes to the center. Elliott ducks right into the shin kick of Gaudinot. He seems okay though and Elliott scores a takedown, takes side mount and lands punches as Gaudinot gives up his back. Elliott gets him in a modified crucifix where he continues to land punches, they roll and Elliott gets full mount for a moment, now side mount, landing elbows and hammerfists. Staying busy overwhelming Gaudinot. 90 seconds to go. The ground and pound assault continues from Elliott. Body shots, head shots, punches, elbows, hammerfistst, non-stop. This continues for the rest of the round. PMN sees it 10-9 and 30-27 for Elliott.

Round 1 – Couple leg kicks from Varner as Tibau pursues. Nice one two punch combo from Varner. Right to the body from Varner. Nice left hook from Varner. Big left hand from Varner. Right hook counter from Tibau. High kick Varner, blocked mostly. Right hook from Varner as Tibau shoots and gets the takedown. Tibau on top in half guard. Varner against the cage, trying to get up. Tibau lands a couple punches. Body lock from the back as Varner gets to his feet. Blind elbows from Varner. Close round. PMN sees it 10-9 Varner.

Round 2 – Varner jumps into a guillotine as Tibau shoots. Tibau pulls his head out and now has top control in half guard early in the round. Varner gives up his back. Tibau flattens him out. Varner rolls to his back, fully mounted now. Varner hangs on tight but takes heavy body shots. Varner gives up his back, now back to being fully mounted. Gives up his back again. Tibau with both hooks in, flattens him out. Varner rolls to his back. Fully mounted. Strong strong top control. Not doing any damage, but… trying to set up something. Varner hangs on tight, hoping for a standup most likely. Tibau lands some punches to the side of the head. PMN sees it 10-9 Tibau.

Round 3 – Varner comes out head hunting. Right hand. Right to the body from Varner. Tibau times a perfect double leg. Varner gets up quickly. Escapes to the center. Right from Varner. Left to the body, shoots, stuffed. Big right to the body from Varner. Tibau fading. Overhand right from Varner, right to body. Tibau shoots, stuffed. Straight right from Varner. Right from Tibau. Left from Varner, nice right, shoots, stuffed. Tibau shoots, stuffed. Left from Varner. He stuns Tibau with a combo. Varner gets the takedown, takes top control in half guard and is dropping ground and pound with 90 seconds to go. Nice elbow from Varner. Nothing too big landing here. He may have should have kept it standing as Tibau is tying him up. More elbows from Varner. Tibau hanging on. Varner postures up with punches. Should have kept it standing. Varner lands a couple rights before the bell. PMN sees it 10-9 Varner and 29-28 Varner.

Round 1 – Poirier dropped Koch with a punch early. Koch catches him in a triangle but Poirier eventually escapes. Koch lands big shots during the round and Poirier shows great heart by surviving. Poirier goes for a D’arce Choke near the end of the round. Koch said he was almost out during the triangle. PMN sees it 10-9 Poirier.

Round 2 – Poirier stalking. Koch using his jab. Left from Poirier. Left from Poirier. Clinched up, takedown from Poirier. Koch gets to his knee but Poirier takes his back. Koch rolls, Poirier in full mount now. Koch makes it to his feet, Poirier pressing him to the cage. Body shots from Poirier. Left elbow from Poirier as they break. Nice left from Poirier as Koch retreats. Clinch, knee to body from Koch. PMN has it 10-9 Poirier.

Round 3 – Koch firing off a jab, one two. Left hook from Poirier. Left hand, drops levels for the shot against the cage. Elbow from Poirier. Knee to body. Again. Bod shots, drops levels. Koch is able to get a trip takedown and ends up on top inside full guard, trying to pass. Elbow from Koch. Poirier throwing shots off his back, gives up his back. Koch gets both hooks in as they roll. Looking for the choke with one minute to go. Poirier gets to his knees, trying to shake Koch off. Koch pulls him back down, body triangle, still searching for the choke. Koch tries to crank it but time is up. PMN sees it 10-9 Koch and 29-28 Poirier.

Inside leg kick and nice punch combo from Vera. Ben lands a nice right that backs him up. Right uppercut from Ben. Huge left body kick from Vera. He slips a right from Ben. Inside leg kick from Vera. One two from Ben. Inside leg kick and huge left hand from Vera scores perfectly on the chin. Ben eats it and continues to hunt. Leg kick Vera. He circles side to side as Ben hunts. Big body kick from Vera. Left right from Ben. Left from Vera. Left right combo from Ben. Right counter from Vera. Leg kick from Ben. Ben not really cutting him off very well. Another body kick from Vera. Right from Ben. Vera slips a punch combo. Good head movement. Leg kick from Ben inside. Head kick attempt. Under a minute to go. Kick to the groin from Ben as Vera is retreating. Bad one. Time called. Vera ready to go. Time over. PMN sees it 10-9 Vera.

Round 2 – Leg kick Vera. Again. They trade leg kicks. Ben gets inside, clinched, knee to body. Vera escapes to the center. Right from Vera. Head kick from Ben, right hand. Combo from Ben, clinch, knee from Vera. Ben pressing him to the cage. Trade knees. Inside leg kick from Vera. Right from Ben. Uppercut from Ben, overhand right. Knee from Vera, elbow to follow. Big leg kick from Ben. Vera gives a hard one back inside. Leg kick Vera, goes over Ben’s head with a head kick attempt. Vera shoots, stuffed. Ben feinting with punches, backs him to the cage with a combo, clinches. Big right from Ben. Elbow. Elbow returned by Vera. Nice body kick from Ben. Nice left right body shots from Vera. Straight left. Head kick attempt from Ben. PMN sees it 10-9 Vera.

Round 3 – Body kick from Ben after a one two from Vera. Ben pushes him to the cage. Body lock from Vera, they trade knees. Both guys showing good cardio thus far. Ref separates them. Body kick Ben. Ben getting crazy with switching stances and acting very animated. Ben lands an uppercut, a huge overhand right, more uppercuts, goes in for the kill. Vera is hurt. He goes down with punches and turtles up. Ben turned it on and destroyed him and this crowd goes NUTS!!! Very very impressive. Round 1 – Big leg kick from Mendes. Right hand. Guida in full hair and hype mode. Guida shoots, Mendes locks on a guillotine but Guida escapes. Mendes shoots, stuffed. Right counter fro Mendes after a front kick attempt from Guida. Mendes with a takedown, now inside full guard. Elbow from Mendes. Guida gets to his feet before the bell. No real damage done. PMN sees it 10-9 Mendes.

Round 2 – Leg kick Mendes. Left hook Guida. Jab. Trade leg kicks. Guida pressing forward, trying to get inside. Guida lands a kick to the groin accidentally. Time called. Mendes scores a takedown but Guida gets back up. After a few punches Mendes gets him back down. Guida gets to his knees. Mendes with a big knee to the body while holding a front headlock. Guida stalking. Guida shoots, stuffed. Guida stalking. Throwing out a jab. A jump kick, nothing landing. Left hand from Mendes. PMN sees it 10-9 Mendes.

Round 3 – Guida shoots after getting dropped with a right, stuffed. Mendes lights him up against the cage with a huge punch combo ending in an uppercut and big right hands that puts Guida down and forces the referee to save him. JOSH BARNETT (32-6 MMA, 4-1 UFC) VS. FRANK MIR (16-7 MMA, 14-7 UFC)

Round 1 – No glove touch. Barnett comes out fast with punches. Dogfight in the clinch. Mir landing good but so is Barnett. Clinch war right now. Barnett pushes him to the cage. Big knees and dirty boxing from Barnett. Mir’s back to the cage. Nice uppercut from Barnett, again. Thai plum and knees from Barnett, elbow. Another. Barnett controlling the action. Mir tries to retreat but Barnett is all over him. Barnett drops him with a knee to the head and the ref stops it straight away. Whoah!! Mir is complaining of the early stoppage. Round 1 – Ben comes out flashing a jab, throws a combo and drops levels against the cage for the takedown attempt, switches to a single, lifts Pettis’ leg. Ben kicks Pettis’ back leg. Knee from Ben to the body. Pettis gets free and takes the center. Ben kicks at the knee, throws a combo and shoots. Grabs a single against the cage. Pettis gets out of it. Ben with a body shot, heel to the leg. Uppercut from Ben. He backs up. Leg kick from Ben. Pettis swings, misses, Ben ties him up. Knee to thigh. Drops levels. Ben kicks the calf of Pettis. Very different. Pettis explodes free. Under two minutes. Body kick Pettis. Feints. Big body kick, body punch from Petis. Body kick again, again, again. Again. Ben doesn’t like that. Pettis goes for a hand stand type head kick. Ends up on his back. Ben gets inside his guard and Pettis gets him in an armbar. Ben Henderson taps out in the first round!!!!!!!
