WSOF 4 Nick Newell 1Undefeated one-armed fighter Nick Newell was victorious Saturday night at World Series of Fighting (WSOF) 4, defeating Keon Caldwell via first round submission.

The event took place at the Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario, Calif., on August 10th, and featured a headline bout between Tyrone “King of the Ring” Spong and Angel “The Dream” DeAnda.

Nick Newell used his takedowns and ground skills to defeat Caldwell. In the early stages of the bout Newell was able to avoid Keon’s striking and get him to the ground. Caldwell returned to his feet, but Newell soon took him back down and after a short period of work Nick was able to secure a dominant top position and sink in a guillotine choke. He rolled off his side, which enabled him to tighten up the choke, giving Caldwell no option but to tap at the 2:07 mark.

Following the bout Newell said, “It was a great honor to fight in front of this crowd and all the troops that came out to support me. Can’t wait to do it again.”

This victory brings the former XFC lightweight champion’s MMA record to 10-0. He was able to display his talents to a much wider audience on Saturday, which is sure to attract lots of positive interest. Nick, who was born with a condition known as congenital amputation and has just one fully-formed arm, definitely performed on the big stage and once again proved that he can easily compete against high-level competition.

It will be interesting to see who WSOF decides to put Nick up against next. Maybe someone like Gesias Cavalcante, who defeated Tyson Griffin on Saturday could be a good option. What do you think?
