johny hendricks-wolfmanProMMAnow.com (www.prommanow.com) roving reporter Dan “The Wolfman” Theodore caught up with UFC welterweight top contender Johny Hendricks at the UFC World Tour press conference this past week in L.A. and talked to the aspiring champion about his upcoming title fight with Georges St-Pierre and if he’s ready for the changes in lifestyle and all that comes with being UFC champion.

Hendricks’ road to the title has been quite remarkable really when you look at the fighters’ he’s left in his wake. He’s won his last six bouts, but the last four wins were most impressive: Jon Fitch, Josh Koscheck, Martin Kampmann and Carlos Condit.

On Nov. 16 at UFC 167, the 29-year-old Oklahoma native will get his shot at gold against a champion who hasn’t lost a fight in nearly six years and has had eight straight title defenses. Hendricks (15-1) realizes the task set before him, but he also believes he possesses the unique skill set to put hands on St-Pierre (24-2) and hurt him.

“I know he’s [Georges St-Pierre] an athlete. I know he’s a great fighter. It’s just that I feel I can close the distance better than he thinks I can. And I know I can hit him, it’s just can I finish him?”

Hendricks is known for his heavy hands and has won three KO of the Night awards in the UFC. As a fighter who comes from a strong wrestling background but has developed into a lethal puncher, Hendricks said there were a couple of guys he has tried to model himself after:

“Realistically, I like to watch Chuck Liddell and Randy [Couture]. Those were strong wrestler-based [fighters]. And you look at those guys and you saw what they became and how they did it, and that’s sort of the role model I went after and that’s sort of the role model I want to be, good Lord willing, I become a champion.”
