John Lineker overcame near disaster after Jose Maria connected with a spinning backfist in the first, then came back in the second to earn a TKO stoppage after Maria appeared to be injured during an exchange.

Jose Maria used his footwork and constant movement to avoid the heavy handed striking of John Lineker to start, while mixing in failed takedown attempts. He changed his fortunes and nearly finished the fight as he staggered Lineker with a blistering spinning backfist. Lineker stayed on his feet, but was further wobbled by an advancing Maria.

Lineker shook off the cobwebs and pressed forward to start the second. Maria again tried to take the fight to the mat but was stuffed by Lineker. Then during an exchange, Maria’s knee buckled and he went down. Lineker pounced, dropping a flurry of hammerfists and right hands from the top prompting the TKO stoppage at 1:03 of the round.

The win improves John Lineker to 23-6 overall (4-1 UFC), while extending his UFC win streak to three.
