UFC 161: EVANS vs. HENDERSON” takes place this evening at MTS Centre in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and is headlined with a light heavyweight match-up between Rashad Evans and Dan Henderson.

Heavyweights Roy Nelson and Stipe Miocic clash in the co-main event in what is the last fight on Nelson’s current UFC contract. Also, Alexis Davis and Rosi Sexton make their UFC debuts in a Women’s MMA bantamweight match-up.

Round 1 -Yves gets a takedown early on in the round. Dustin attacks for a heel hook, looks tight. Yves punches at him and Dustin lets it go momentarily. Goes back to an inside heel hook. Yves attacks Dustin’s leg and they scramble. Dustin ends up on top in full mount, goes for an arm triangle, Yves sweeps him and is landing big punches with Dustin’s head trapped in the corner. Dustin gets full guard. Yves postures over him with big right hands and likely stole the round there. PMN sees it 10-9 for Yves Jabouin.

Round 2 – Left from Yves. Couple leg kicks from Dustin. Thai plum and knee from Yves but Dusin trips him to the ground and ends up on top almost in full mount. Now mounted fully. Postures up with punches. Yves gives up his back. Dustin locks on a body triangle, goes for the choke. Back to full mount and more punches. Yves gets half guard. Dustin drops some elbows to the body, and Yves sweeps with 1:30 to go. Inside full guard. Dustin looks for an arm, eats an elbow or two. Elbows from the bottom from Dustin. Round 3 – Quick takedown from Yves. Inside full guard. Yves postures up with a punch, elbow to body. Ref warns them he’s going to stand them up unless they get busy. Couple more elbows from Yves. Big one this time. Right hand. Dustin attacks with an omoplata. Yves stands up and pulls out of it and dives in with a big right. Dustin trying to control the wrists. Ref stands them up. Yves slips on a spinning back kick attempt. Dustin lands a knee to the jaw as Yves tries to get up — an illegal knee — now Dustin is in full mount and landing elbows. Accidental eye poke gets Maguire a time out to recover. Ref wants them to keep their fists closed. Touch gloves. Nice body kick from Clarke. Maguire shoots for a single, switches to body lock from the back. Clarke with wrist control. Blind elbow from Clarke. Maguire trying to drag him to the ground. Maguire hops on his back, stills tanding. Maguire stands on the ground. Clarke gets turned around, lands a head kick. He shoots, stuffed. Maguire gets a body lock from the back. Clarke lands several elbows to Maguire’s forearm. PMN sees it 10-9 for Clarke.

Round 2 – Touch gloves. Jab from Maguire. Leg kick. Again. Front kick. Leg kick. Left hook. Inside leg kick. Left hook from Maguire. Left hook and a leg kick from Clarke but Maguire catches a leg and puts him on his back. Inside full guard Maguire landing body shots. Clarke just hanging on as ref tells him to work. Clarke boxes the ears with palm strikes. Maguire working the ground and pound. Ref warns he wants action. Clarke looks for a kimura as Maguire punches his body. Clarke pushes off the cage and rolls back to his feet, now looking for a single, he lets it go, clinched against the cage. Foot stomps and a knee from Clarke. Knee from Maguire, they wrestle in the clinch. Ref separates them with 35 seconds left. Leg kicks from Clarke. Maguire shoots, body lock from the back, drags Clarke down. Time’s up. PMN has it 10-9 for Clarke.

Round 3 – Maguire shoots, eats a knee. Leg kicks from Clarke. Nice straight left from Maguire stuns Clarke but fires back with a few of his own. High kick, clinch against the cage. Foot stomps from Clarke. Constant pressure from Clarke has put Maguire into almost a pure reactive mode. Ref separates them. Maguire shoots, body lock takedown, Clarke back up briefly but Maguire drags him down, has his back with both hooks in. Now Maguire has a body triangle. Under 2:00 to go. Boos from the crowd. Clarke holding Maguire’s wrist with two hands preventing the choke. Clarke walks the cage, turns around and now has top control inside full guard. He postures up, stands up and dives in with punches, takes side control, stands up and dives in with more punches, lands a big right inside full guard before the bell. PMN sees it 10-9 and 30-27 for Clarke.

Clarke is very emotional after the win, crying like a very happy baby.

Roland Delorme vs. Edwin Figueroa

Round 1 – Delorme shoots in, gets the takedown but Figueroa pops right up. Delorme has his back with a body triangle and looking for the choke. Figueroa spins around for top control but gets caught in a triangle. Delorme blasts him with elbows to the top of the head. Figueroa gets free of danger, still in top control inside full guard. He postures up with punches. Delorme goes for an arm but eats big right hands from Figueroa who is standing over him. Delorme trips him to the ground and takes top control in side mount. Delorme dropping elbows, Figueroa gives up his back. Delorme with a body triangle trapping Figueroa’s right arm. With only one arm to defend Delorme looks for the choke with under a minute to go. Figueroa gets his arm free before the bell. Gets to his knees but Delorme still on his back landing shots. PMN has it 10-9 for Delorme.

Round 2 – Delorme shoots, gets a body lock takedown from the back. Figueroa gives up his back. Rolls over and now has full guard on Delorme. Figueroa goes for a triangle, now an arm. Pretty tight but Delorme gets free, stacks Figueroa with punches, takes side mount and lands an elbow or two. Delorme has his back with a body triangle now, looking for the choke. Figueroa gets the sweep and takes top control inside full guard. Delorme looks for an armbar. Figueroa gets free of the armbar and drops some nice punches and elbows. Figueroa stacks him. Now in half guard landing some big punches. 1:00 to go. Delorme tries to sit up. Gets to his feet and drags Figueroa down and now is riding his back with one hook in, now both hooks. PMN sees it 10-9 Figueroa.

Round 3 – Left hook and a right from Figueroa. Delorme shoots, body lock takedown. Figueroa looks for a heel, Delorme spins out, takes his back with both hooks in. Delorme with a body triangle once again. Figueroa gets to his feet with Delorme still locked on his back. Delorme puts his feet on the ground and slings Figueroa back to the ground. Figueroa on one knee, Delorme gets on his back, slips off the top.  Jab from Delorme. Right hand from Figueroa. Knee and a takedown attempt from Delorme. They reset and square up. Left right from Figueroa. Jab. Left hook. Nice uppercut as Delorme shoots in, but Delorme gets the takedown, now on top inside guard, moves to half, then side control, now North-South, over to side control, scramble, Delorme riding his back with 1:00 to go. Figueroa takes top control in half guard, landing big right hands. He stands over Delorme and lands a couple of the biggest punches of the fight as Delorme fights to get up. PMN sees it 10-9 and 29-28 for Figueroa. I think those final punches did more damage than Delorme did the whole round.

Sean Pierson vs. Kenny Robertson

Round 1 – Right hooks from Pierson drops Robertson to a knee. He gets up and continues to look for the shot and eats some more punches. Pierson defends with a front headlock but ends up on his butt, gives up his back. Robertson with almost a body triangle and attacking from the back. Pierson escapes and holds a front headlock, back to the feet, knee from Robertson to the gut. Pierson backs out and they square up. Body kick from Robertson, eats a punch. Leg kick. Uppercut from Pierson. Leg kick from Robertson. Left straight from Pierson. Body lock takedown from Robertson but Pierson ends up with top advantage. Robertson gets to his knees, Robertson with a front headlock, gives him a knee to the head. Pierson backs out and they square up. Pierson cut under his right eye. Pierson lands a nice punch combo that stuns Robertson. Body kick from Robertson, he fires back with punches. PMN sees it 10-9 Pierson.

Round 2 – Leg kick Robertson. Body kick. Right hand, body kick. Right hand. Knee to body. Pierson with a head kick and right hand to follow. Spinning backfist from Robertson scores. No effect. Left hand from Pierson. Body shot from Robertson. Left hand from Pierson, left hook Robertson. Right hook, head kick from Pierson. Robertson shoots, sprawl from Pierson, goes for a D’arce, loses position and Robertson takes top control in half guard. Robertson tries to pass, gets caught in full guard. Round 3 – Right hand from Robertson, again. He wobbles Pierson with a right elbow, lands a knee to the face a left hook as Pierson tries to fire back. Robertson lands another couple nice punches as Pierson goes for the single. Robertson sprawls, takes Pierson’s back, no hooks, Pierson turtles up. Robertson with both hooks in now, flattens him out. Right hands to the side of the head from Robertson, trying to soften Pierson up. Big right hand. Robertson’s corner wants power punches. He may need a finish to win the fight though. Robertson goes for a choke but loses position. Pierson ends the round on top. PMN sees it 10-9 and 29-28 for Robertson.

Leg kick Krause. Leg kick Stout. Front kick to the face from Krause, then lands a knee to the face. Lands a jab. Stout seems okay. Big leg kick from Krause. Leg kick Stout. Jab from Krause. Leg kick. Woodley just misses taking off Shields’ head with an uppercut. Shields catches a leg, looks for the takedown, Woodley defends, pushes Shields to cage. Knees from Shields to the body. Body lock from Shields, more knees. Body shot from Woodley. Another. Ref separates them. Body kick Shields. Leg kick. Leg kick, inside leg kick. Again. Right hand from Woodley scores. Leg kick, body kick from Shields. Big body kick from Woodley, Shields shoots for the single against the cage. Body punches from Woodley as Shields holds the single. More body shots from Woodley. Body kick Shields. Woodley ties him up against the cage. Knees from Shields, body punches from Woodley. The crowd hates the dance and ref separates them. It’s do or die for Woodley. Spinning backfist rocks Shields, but he just comes forward and clinches up and goes back to the clinch and knee game and the boos start back. Knees from Woodley. Ref separates them again. Body kick Woodley. His corner is screaming at him to let it go. Body kick and leg kick from Shields. Another. Woodley stuffs the shot. Two right hands. Clinch from Shields, body shots from Shields before the bell. Crowd hates it. PMN has it 10-9 for Woodley and the fight 29-28 for Shields.

There was a time, nay, one or two fights that made me a fan of Shields but then I’m reminded of why his fan base is smaller than the eye of a needle when I see a performance like this. It’s gross and the UFC better never put this dude on PPV or they’ll get sued for entertainment malpractice.

Pat Barry vs. Shawn Jordan

Round 1 – Touch gloves. Jordan a southpaw. High kick from Barry checked. Chants of “Barry”. Overhand right from Barry, Jordan returns  a right. Leg kick Barry. Jordan lands a nice punch combo and a right uppercut that really stuns Barry. Barry is hurt and crumbles. Jordan follows up with several bombs as Barry covers up. This fight is over.

Alexis Davis vs. Rosi Sexton

Round 1 – Right hand from Sexton. Lands another nice one. Davis throwing elbows, they clinch against the cage, knee and elbows from Davis. Thai plum and knees to the body from Davis as Rosi uses dirty boxing. Davis looking for the trip. Knee to body.They separate, left hook from Sexton. She shoots in, gets stuffed, but still ends up on top inside full guard. Davis locks on a triangle, eats some right hands in the process. Davis loses the triangle and is eating leather. She tries to lock it back on but continues to eat punches, big punches. PMN sees it 10-9 for Sexton. Davis very slow to get up.

Round 2 – They come out throwing punches, Sexton lands a right. Elbow from Davis. Sexton looks for the takedown and gets her to the ground in side control. Sexton in half guard, but Davis is able to sweep, puts some elbows in Sexton’s ribs. Sexton gets full guard. Davis with body shots as Sexton punches from off her back. Elbow from Davis as the round reaches the halfway mark. Forearm smash from Davis, followed by several hammerfists. Sexton gives up her back. Davis gets one hook in, going for the choke. Right hands from Davis. Both hooks in now. Davis flattens her out with 30 seconds to go. Sexton covers up but Davis continues to punch. Ref warns Sexton to keep fighting or he will stop it. She survives. PMN sees it 10-9 for Davis.

Round 3 – Jab from Davis, her reach giving Sexton some problems. Another jab, another. Davis shoots, stuffed, but is able to pull Sexton to her and take her back, body triangle, they roll. Davis landing punches but Sexton rolls her over and has top control now inside full guard. Body shots from Sexton, lands several right hands to the ribs. Davis gets to her knees. Sexton goes for her back but loses position and ends up on bottom with Davis inside full guard. Davis stands over her and eats an upkick. PMN sees the round 10-9 Sexton but the fight 29-28 for Davis.

Ryan Jimmo vs. Igor Pokrajac

Round 1 – (starting at 2:00 mark) Clinched against the cage, they separate to the center. Jimmo with the jab. Igor presses the action, clinched against the cage. Jimmo with underhooks. Knees to the thighs. Ref separates them. Leg kick Jimmo, again. Again. Igor head hunting, eats a nice right. One two from Jimmo, big jab. Jimmo on the retreat from a combo, Igor catches him with a big right. Jimmo fires back, clinch against the cage. Elbow from Igor at the bell. I missed the first couple minutes so I will refrain from judging this round.

Round 2 – Leg kick Jimmo. Jab, leg kick, big right hand hurts Igor and he goes down. Jimmo follows up but Igor gets to his feet. Jimmo puts him on his back and ties up Jimmo’s arms in order to recover. Jimoo postures up with punches and elbows. Igor gets wrist control and is preventing serious damage. Hammerfists from the bottom by Igor.

Round 3 – Missed it.

Roy Nelson vs. Stipe Miocic

Round 1 – This fight is nuts. Touch gloves. Leg kick Stipe. Roy fakes the takedown, lands a right. Nice right from Miocic. Stipe goes for a single, stuffed. Clinched against the cage, Roy breaks out to the center. Roy fakes the shot but eats a big right. Body shot from Roy. Stipe lands a one two, two more, uppercut, knee to the chin and Roy goes to his knees. Back up. Overhand right from Roy, he slips and Stipe goes for his back, lands a few punches and it’s back up. Roy with a right and Stipe slips a little. His winging the overhand right. Miocic hurts Roy with bog punches, has him against the cage and Stipe has him hurt with elbows, uppercut, Roy hangs on for the clinch. Stipe had him hurt badly. Miocic gets some distance with 20 seconds to go. Leg kick from Roy. 10-9 for Miocic.

Round 2 – Roy’s corner very mad at him, saying he is not going out like this and quit chasing him. Big right from Miocic. Roy wings a right, misses, eats a knee. Nice right from Miocic. Roy has slowed down big time. Nice jab from Miocic. Roy wings a couple more rights. Miocic lands a nice combo that backs Roy up to the cage. Inside leg kick. Roy clinches up. Miocic lands some elbows and backs out. Miocic shoots, stuffed. Big body kick from Miocic. Miocic with the jab, leg kick, right hand. Eats a left. Miocic with a knee to the chin as Roy ducks in. Jab from Miocic, right hand. Nice uppercut from Roy backs Miocic up. One two three, leg kick from Miocic. Hands on the hips for Roy. Big four punch combo from Stipe. Clinched against the cage. Roy is exhausted. PMN has it 10-9 for Miocic.

Round 3 – Big one two from Stipe, lands another right, uppercut. He’s just picking Roy apart. Big right hand. Jab from Miocic, leg kick, eats a left from Roy, one of the few of the fight. Left and a right from Roy. Overhand right, left, right. Jab from Miocic. Again. Roy chases him with punches, all missing. Roy throws a card counter right that misses. Miocic gets the takedown, Roy gets right up, clinched against the cage. Elbow from Miocic, body shots. Ref separates them. Leg kick from Miocic. One two from Miocic. He shoots, stuffed, one two, clinch against the cage. 30 seconds to go. Miocic backs out. Nice one two, knee and a combo from Miocic. All Stipe Miocic! Roy hangs his arms on top of the cage and hangs his head. PMN sees it 10-9 and 30-27 for Miocic.

Dan Henderson vs. Rashad Evans

Round 1 – Hendo rockin a nice tan as usual. Lots of boos for Mr. Evans — and one screaming fanatic. Evans on all fours like he do. Does not crawl out though. Right hand cocked for Hendo. Nice fast jab from Rashad. Overhand right from Hendo, Evans fires back in the pocket. Evans with a couple lefts, shoots in, stuffed, tastes some leather on the exit. Nice punch combo from Evans. Hendo trying to set up the right with a couple left jabs. Clinch, knee from Hendo. Evans pushes him to the cage, drops levels, stuffed. Hendo escapes to the center. Clinch, again. Hendo misses a right on the break. Hendo throws a big uppercut inside but misses. Nice jab from Evans. Stiff jab from Hendo sits Evans on his butt. Hendo going after him as he gets up. Evans survives. Big heaters being thrown by both guys. PMN has it 10-9 Hendo.

Round 2 – Interesting Rashad’s corner told him he has to take him down. Hendo’s corner tells him Rashad has no chin. Double jab from Hendo. Evans gets the takedown, but Hendo is right back up. Evans with a body lock from the back. Hendo gets turned around chest to chest now. Evans pressing him to the cage. Some nice right hands from Evans. Nice uppercut from Hendo. Hendo clips him with a right. Evans pushes forward to the clinch against the cage. Hendo backs out. Overhand right, right hook from Evans both miss.
