griffinbonnar11UFC President Dana White shared with the media after UFC 160 that Forrest Griffin and Stephan Bonnar will be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame later this year.

The induction will take place during the UFC Fan Expo prior to UFC 162 in July.

Griffin also announced his retirement from the sport of MMA on Saturday night post UFC 162.

The two fighters were the two finalists on the inaugural season of “The Ultimate Fighter” in 2005, and are largely given credit for saving the UFC with their epic war which garnered huge ratings at the time on Spike TV. Griffin won that fight via unanimous decision and subsequently won the rematch via the same fashion, although that fight was more decisive.

Griffin(19-7) went on to become the UFC light heavyweight champion by defeating Quinton “Rampage” Jackson at UFC 86 via controversial unanimous decision. However, he would lose the title in his first title defense against “The Ultimate Fighter” season two winner Rashad Evans.

Bonnar (15-8) had a more lackluster career in which he never came close to UFC gold, and also was caught taking steroids twice during his career.

Both fighters fought all-time great Anderson Silva and were utterly destroyed via first round TKO.

UFC 162 will take place on July 6 with the UFC Fan Expo taking place on July 5th-6th.
