UFC officials have announced a heavyweight bout for the inaugural UFC on FOX Sports 1 event that’s slated for August 17. Alistair Overeem has verbally agreed to take on Travis Browne.
Alistair Overeem (36-12, 1NC) is coming off a big upset KO loss against Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva at UFC 156 in February. He was slated to take on Junior dos Santos at UFC 160, but was forced to withdraw from the bout with an injury.
Travis Browne (14-1-1) is coming off a nice KO win over former title challenger Gabriel Gonzaga at the TUF 17 Finale in April. Browne was coming off a his first career defeat which also came against Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva.
The UFC on FOX Sports 1 event is set to take place at the TD Garden in Boston. Also on the card, a welterweight scrap between Thiago Alves and Matt Brown. Also, a lightweight scrap between Boston native Joe Lauzon and Michael Johnson.
