UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones dismantled Chael Sonnen via TKO in the first round of the UFC 159 main event that took place at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. However, he suffered a broken toe during the round while defending a takedown and the result can be seen below:

Jones will likely be out for months as the break appears to be a compound fracture. So I would look for him to return sometime in the fall which should give allow enough time for a worthy challenger to emerge to face him in the division. The other crazy thought is if Chael Sonnen could have survived the first round, we could have potentially been looking at having a new UFC light heavyweight champion. Would the commission have allowed Jones to continue on with a toe like that, and better yet, I wonder if Jones could have continued with the adrenaline pumping at the time?
