Daniel CormierStrikeforce heavyweight tournament champion and 2004 Olympian Daniel Cormier (11-0) makes his UFC debut this weekend against former UFC heavyweight champ Frank Mir (16-6) in the UFC on FOX 7 co-main event in San Jose, Calif.

A guest Wednesday on MMA Tonight (102.5 FM Nashville) with hosts Darren McFarland and Chris Pappas, Cormier discussed his mindset and how he’s spending these final hours before the bout. Cormier shared his thoughts about Mir and what he expects from him.

Considering how hard it is for many wrestlers to ever develop great striking, Cormier explained how he’s been able to make that transition. And as someone who wrestled at the highest levels, the Olympian described how he has had to “simplify” or “dumb down” his wrestling when competing against most MMA fighters.

In closing, Cormier gave his opinion on wrestling being in danger of being dropped from the Olympics, why it’s such a travesty and how the UFC’s involvement may help.

Darren and Chris also discussed the upcoming UFC 159 card including the main event between Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen and the differences in how each guy is promoting the fight. All this and much much more.
