Middleweights Uriah Hall and Kelvin Gastelum will square off this evening for the title of “Ultimate Fighter” and a six-figure contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship. The two Team Sonnen finalists of The Ultimate Fighter season 17 had impressive showings on the UFC reality show on FX and tonight will get the chance to prove they belong in the big leagues.

The Ultimate Fighter 17 Finale (TUF 17 Finale) takes place tonight at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas and will broadcast LIVE on FX starting at 9 p.m. ET (6 p.m. PT). Preliminary card action will air LIVE on Fuel TV at 7 p.m. ET (4 p.m. PT) and on Facebook at 5:30 p.m. ET (2:30 p.m. PT).

Headlining the TUF 17 Finale will be a bantamweight scrap between friends Urijah Faber and Scott Jorgensen. Also, the second female UFC bout in history takes place as Miesha Tate squares off with Cat Zingano in a 135-pound match-up with the winner earning a spot as coach on TUF 18 and a shot at Ronda Rousey‘s title.

TUF 17 Finale play-by-play:

Justin Lawrence vs. Daniel Pineda

Round 1 -Touch gloves. Pineda with an overhand punch to set up the takedown. Lawrence uses the cage to get back up, Pineda tries to pick him up to put him down, can’t get it, but does use a trip to put Lawrence on his back. Pineda on top in half guard, moves to side mount and looking for a kimura. Lawrence grimacing. He’s in trouble and Lawrence taps out. Very impressive. Lawrence looks to be in pain. Beautiful finish. The tap looked funny as he was in a crucifix type position so when he tapped he was actually spanking Pineda. :) Pineda said he’s been working a lot on his ground game with Jason Rogers. He calls out for “submission of the night”.

Maximo Blanco vs. Sam Sicilia

Round 1 – Head kick from Blanco, slips and then shoots and gets Sicilia to the group, but he gets to his knees, holding Blanco in a kimura, now to his feet and lets go the kimura. Blanco with a couple leg kicks. Leg kick Sicilia. Right to body from Blanco. Blanco shoots, stuffed. Big leg kick from Blanco. Sicilia throwing some heat with combinations but nothing landing solid. Leg kick inside from Blanco. Inside leg kick from Sicilia. Switch stance from Blanco. Lands a counter right, leg kick. Inside leg kick, again. Leg kick from Sicilia. Jab from Blanco, front kick. Sicilia trying to get in with the punches but can’t seem to find his distance. Jab from Blanco snaps Sicilia’s head back. Inside leg kick from Blanco, right hook counter from Sicilia. Counter right from Blanco. I have it 10-9 for Blanco.

Round 2 – Leg kick from Blanco. Left right counter from Sicilia rocks Blanco. Blanco shoots, Sicilia grabs a guillotine, lets to and pushes Blanco to the cage. They wrestle in the clinch. Sicilia with a body lock from the back and ref warns Blanco several times for grabbing the cage. Blanco turns around as Sicilia lands some knees, backs up with a one two, another one two and Blanco fires back. Big exchanges in the pocket but Blanco gets a takedown and immediately takes full mount looking for an arm triangle and landing body shots to soften Sicilia up. Blanco lets go the arm triangle and is working the ground and pound. Sicilia explodes to his feet and presses Blanco to the cage, looks for the trip, can’t get it, throws a glancing uppercut. They square up. Nice jab from Blanco, nice uppercut from Sicilia. Under a minute to go. Big counter right from Sicilia. Right left right from Blanco, inside leg kick. They coast the last 15 seconds or so. Close back and forth round. I have it for Sicilia 10-9.

Round 3 – Big exchanges in the pocket right away and Blanco gets the better of it. They reset in the center. Spinning back kick from Blanco. Big right hand. Big right hand from Sicilia. Another big exchange and Sicilia shoots out of desperation. Blanco gets top position as he stuffs it. Sicilia gets to his knees, now feet, presses Blanco to the cage. Great fight! Blanco turns Sicilia to the cage, lands a few body shots, drags Sicilia down but he pops right up and  fires back. They reset in the center. Leg kick from Blanco. Leg kick Blanco. Sicilia swings big, misses, shoots, stuffed and eats some punches. Blanco riding his back, lands a knee to the shoulder. Sicilia gets to his feet in time to take a head kick and they throwdown with one last exchange before the bell. I have it 10-9 and 29-28 for Blanco.

Cole Miller vs. Bart Palaszewski

Round 1 – Left hook from Bart. Leg kick quick. Inside leg kick from Miller. Body jab from Miller. Goes over Bart’s head with a head kick attempt. Leg kick from Bart. Nice one two from Bart. Nice body shot from Miller. Body kick from Miller. Leg kick from Bart. Big leg kick from Bart buckles the leg. Body head combo from Bart. Leg kick from Bart. Leg kick. Body shot from Bart. Right hand to the head backs Miller up. One two from Bart stuns Miller and backs him up as he circles the cage. Leg kick from Bart, again. Big leg kick from Miller. Superman punch attempt, shoots for the double and gets Bart down. Miller jumps on Bart’s back as he goes to his knees. Miller looking for the rear naked choke and he gets it as Bart taps out. Looked more like a neck crank actually. Miller said if he’d lost this fight, with having lost his last two fights, would have likely been on the unemployment line. He was very emotional after the win.

Clint Hester vs. Bristol Marunde

Round 1 – Hester working a jab, low stance expecting the shot. Feeling each other out. Left hook from Hester. Inside leg kick from Hester. Overhand right from Marunde. Right from Hester. Nice uppercut from Marunde, left hook. Inside leg kick from Hester. Leg kick from Hester. Jab. Another. Inside leg kick. Overhand right from Hester. Marunde catches a front kick and dumps Hester on his back. Inside full guard with just over a minute to go. Hester with a few elbows off his back. He gets to his feet and drops Marunde with a big right hand. Somehow he trips Hester and is able to gain top control inside his guard. Hester holds on until the bell. I have it 10-9 for Hester.

Round 2 – Left hook counter from Hester. Left jab. He ducks an overhand right from Marunde, clinch, knee from Hester, again. Thai plum, knee to body, goes for the trip, separates from the clinch. Leg kick from Marunde, then lands a head kick that seems to have no effect. Jab from Marunde. He slips on a head kick, shoots, sprawl from Hester. Body shots from Hester. Two minutes left. Hester gets up but Marunde holds the single and gets the trip, now on top inside full guard. Hester with wrist control, goes for a triangle. Marunde pulls out. Hester hurts Marunde with an up kick. He gets up and Marunde lands an uppercut, Hester fires back with big shots of his own. Great exchange. Marune shoots, sprawl from Hester. Maruunde with a one two but eats a big punch from Hester, forcing a desperation shot. Great action and heart from both guys. I’ve got it 10-9 Hester.

Round 3 – Nice right from Hester, left jab. One two jab. Big leg kick. Overhand right attempt and Marunde shoots under, sprawl from Hester, lands several body shots, stands up. Misses a head kick. They reset. Flying knee from Hester to the body. Marunde shoots, sprawl from Hester, they stand, still clinched, big right from Hester. Marunde drops levels for a single, sprawl from Hester. Half the round gone. Hester lands some punches, stands up. Marunde with a right, Hester with a left. head kick attempt from Marunde. Hester touches him up with a couple punches. Uppercut from Marunde. Leg kick. Huge elbow from Hester and Marunde is done, put a fork in it. Wow. It was an overhand type elbow that makes Marunde do a crazy new dance before falling to his knees and the ref steps in immediately. Beautiful finish and KO of the Night so far.

Dylan Andrews vs. Jimmy Quinlan

Round 1 – Touch gloves. Couple rights from Dylan, Quinlan shoots for a single, turns the corner and Dylan goes down but hops right up. Quinlan stays on him against the cage. Andrews with a couple short punches to the head. More punches. Quinlan being relentless, looking for the double, back to single, Andrews defending well. Quinlan picks him up and puts him on his back, lands in side control. Looks for mount but Andrews explodes to his feet. Quinlan right back on him against the cage, eats a few shots in the process and eats a few elbows. Ref separates them. Right left and front kick from Quinlan, shoots in but eats a right hook then an uppercut from Dylan Andrews that hurts him, Dylan then fires off several big punches to the sides of Quinlan’s head on the ground and the ref stops it. Great showing from Andrews.

Luke Barnatt vs. Collin Hart

Round 1 – Leg kicks from Hart, left hand, right to body, backs Barnatt to the cage. Short rights from Barnatt as Hart looks for the body lock takedown. Barnatt with a trip takedown but Hart is right back up. Nice knee from Barnatt, Hart with a counter left. Left hook. Left jab from Barnatt and time is called as Barnatt takes a kick to the groin. Touch gloves. Right, left from Barnatt. Nice left right from Hart, shoots for the single, switches to a body lock, duplex, jumps on Barnatt’s back as he stands up. He shakes Hart off. Hart with a body lock, Barnatt turns around. They reset in the center. Left from Hart, nice punch combo to follow. His nose is bleeding. Barnatt fires back, lands an elbow, right to body. Clinch, pushes Hart to the cage. Nice left jab as he backs out. Right from Hart. Left right right from Barnatt. Hart breathing hard out his mouth, getting sloppy. Nice right from Hart, drops levels, stuffed. Knee to the body from Barnatt. Hart lands some punches but Barnatt is taking them fine. Knee to body from Barnatt. Nice punch exchange before the bell. I see it 10-9 for Hart.

Round 2 – Touch gloves. Left jab fro Barnatt, right hand. Hart stuns him with a punch. Left right left right from Hart. Barnatt working the jab, lands a nice right. Hart clinches him up, knee from Barnatt. Nice left right from Barnatt, staying very active, mixing it up. Good footwork from Barnatt who touches Hart up with body and head punches. He misses a spinning elbow, clinch from Hart. Barnatt breaks free and they reset in the center. Right left from Barnatt. Left from Hart. Overhand right from Barnatt, jab. Body kick, body punches from Hart. Right to body from Barnatt. Left from Hart. Leg kick. Leg kick from Barnatt in return. Hart backs him up to the cage with punches. Leg kick. Again. Again, and it causes Barnatt to fall to one knee. Right from Barnatt, Hart pushes him to the cage, knee, drops levels. Barnatt attacks with a kimura, rolls with it, back to the feet, Barnatt goes for a standing guillotine; Jon Jones style. Lets it go, lands a knee to the head, tees off with some jabs. Barnatt slips on a head kick. Hart takes top control before the bell. I’ve got it 10-9 for Barnatt.

Round 3 – Nice jabs from Barnatt as he circles. Leg kicks from Hart. Left jab. Nice jabs from Barnatt, front kick. Circles away from the cage, staying busy. Hart slowing down. Left right from Hart as he clinches up against the cage. Barnatt backs out. Nice Superman punch, double left jab, another jab. Looking great there. Nice right from Barnatt, body shot. Hart fires back, pushes him to the cage. Barnatt turns him around and backs out. Uses the jab as Hart shoots in, gets a body lock takedown from the back but Barnatt gets right up. Hart stays on him against the cage. Barnatt escapes to the center. Left counter from Hart, big right hand. Right left from Barnatt. One two from Barnatt. Lazy slow spin kick attempt from Hart – probably exhausted. Hart goes for a single, stuffed. He stays on it, switches to a double and gets Barnatt down. I’ve got it 10-9 and 29-28 for Barnatt. It’s Barnatt’s 25th birthday. He’s been working with Coach Chael Sonnen for this fight.

Kevin Casey vs. Josh Samman

Round 1 – Back leg kick from Samman knocks Casey to the ground, but Casey catches his arm and has him in trouble, they roll and Casey has him in a triangle, switches to an arm bar. Samman slams him on his head and Casey lets it go. Casey sweeps and is on top, postures up with punches, now inside full guard. Elbows and punches from Casey. Samman with wrist control. Casey has him pressed to the cage, lands a couple body shots. Samman attacks with a triangle attempt but Casey postures up and out and goes back to the ground and pound. Lands some nice right hands to the face inside full guard. Samman almost sweeps. Body shots from Casey with 1:30 left in the round. Casey continues to work and lands a knee to the body as Samman gets to his feet. Knee from Samman to the body, another, jumping knee attempt in the clinch. They wrestle in the clinch until the bell and Casey is breathing very hard. I have it 10-9 Casey.

Round 2 – Clinch, knee to the body from Samman, knee to thigh. Casey with body shots, blocking most of these knees from Samman. Dirty boxing from Casey, short uppercuts. Knee to the body from Samman, body shots, lands a knee to the chin and Casey goes down to his knee, he’s hurt. Thai plum from Samman lands another knee to the chin, another one, one to the body now, another. Casey folding and goes down. Samman attempts a couple big punches to the chin of his downed opponent and referee Herb Dean saves him and pulls Samman off. Casey took a lot of knees and had no real answer for the Thai clinch of Samman.

Robert “Bubba” McDaniel vs. Gilbert Smith

Round 1 – Overhand left from Smith, leg kick. clinch, knee from Bubba. Knee from Smith. Dirty boxing against the cage. Nice elbow and punch combo from Bubba put Smith on the retreat. Smith catches a leg and dumps Bubba on his back. Bubba sweeps and ends up on top in half guard. Drops an elbow as Smith tries to work his way up. Punches to the side of the head from Bubba but Smith is able to put Bubba on his back. Smith inside full guard. Smith is so strong. He’s a tank. Smith trying to work from top. Bubba scoots himself back to the cage, posts on an arm to try and get up. Smith fighting to keep him down. Hammerfists from Bubba, elbows to the side of the head as he stands up. Smith still holding a leg, switches to a double and gets Bubba back to his butt. Bubba locks on a guillotine, sweeps to top position in half guard. Bubba passes to side mount, Smith gives up his back with 10 seconds left. Big knee to the ribs from Bubba. I have it 10-9 for Bubba McDaniel.

Round 2 – Front kick from Bubba, clinch. Body kick from Bubba. Big one two punch, a left hand. Gilbert with a right hand, pushes Bubba to the cage as he goes for a single. Bubba defends, turns him around. Knee to thigh. Smith goes for a single, eats some hammerfists. Bubba lands a knee to the head. Right hand from Smith as they square up. Leg kick from Bubba, another big one, left hook, right jab. Right counter. Smith jumps on a guillotine, Bubba escapes after jumping to the opposite side, ends up on top in half guard. Smith gets to his knees as Bubba jumps on his back, landing big punches. Smith turtles up, rolls. Bubba on top in half guard dropping elbows and punches now with under a minute to go. Smith gets to his feet. Barely misses a big kick from Bubba. Right hook from Bubba. Nice left right from Bubba. I have it 10-9 for Bubba.

Round 3 – Nice left from McDaniel on the chin as he catches a front kick and Smith falls. Back up, they trade punches. Smith shoots, stuffed and Bubba pushes him over with an underhook and takes top control in half guard, landing body shots. Now in a crucifix lands a few punches to the head. Now to half guard landing good ground and pound. Smith gets to his knees, Bubba riding his back, gets one hook in. Smith preventing the other and is able to sweep. Bubba catches him in a triangle, tightens it with an armlock and Smith taps out. Great showing by Bubba McDaniel in his UFC debut. Looking forward to seeing him back in the Octagon.

Travis Browne vs. Gabriel Gonzaga

Round 1 – Big fight for Gonzaga. Touch gloves. He ducks a head kick and goes for the takedown, pushes Browne to the cage. Looking for the takedown, knee to body. Nice left to face. Elbow to back of head from Browne. Gonzaga switches legs. Browne knocks Gonzaga out with elbows to the side of the head. Replay looks to the back of the head. Extremely dangerous. The side/back of the head there is such a close call in the heat of battle. But there was no complaint from the ref, so there you have it. Hopefully Gonzaga is okay.

Miesha Tate vs. Cat Zingano

Round 1 – Tate looking top heavy tonight. Tate clinches up and gets the takedown right away. Cat right back up. Tate holding her neck. Pushes Cat to the cage. Cat holding a standing guillotine, cranking it, Miesha is out. Tate lands a big combination that stumbles Zingano and Tate puts her on her back. Zingano sweeps and takes side mount from top. Tate puts her feet on the cage and Cat gets up. Tate walks her down with punches, Tate shoots, stuffed. Cat lands a knee to the face. She eats a left, but lands one of her own. Tate with the double leg takedown. Tate on top in half guard now. Nice elbow from Tate. Lands a few punches to the body with half a minute to go. Nice elbows and hammerfists from Tate doing her best Matt Hughes impression. I have it 10-9 Tate.

Round 2 – Flying knee from Cat, body kick. Tate shoots, Cat tries to counter, but ends up on her back with her neck against the cage. Elbows to the gut from Tate. Tate postures up with big elbows as she gets full mount. She goes for an arm bar, lets it go and regains top control, full mount dropping punches, moves to side mount. Knee to belly, tries to take Cat’s back but Zingano ends up on top as Tate goes for her leg. Tate cranking on a heel hook. Cat drops elbows to her thighs. Hammerfist from Cat, she counters and ends up on top dropping elbows and punches. Cat drops some big shots. Tate gets to her knees, now her feet. Left hand from Cat. Tate shoots, stuffed and eats some punches before the bell. Amazing fight! I’ve got it 10-9 Cat Zingano.

Round 3 – So much on the line. Left hand from Cat, front kick from Tate. Cat slips on a kick. Cat gets the takedown with a great shot. Cat on top in half guard as Tate trying to work a sweep. Big elbow from Cat. Several punches from Cat. Elbow. Tate gets to her knees, looking for the leg. Cat warned for hitting the back of the head. Miesha warned for same. Miesha’s face is a bloody mess. Cat beating her up from the top. Tate tries to roll, eats several punches. Tate gets to her feet but gets dropped with a knee, she’s fighting for a leg, back to her feet and Cat lands four knees. Tate tries to shoot but the ref (Kim Winslow) stops it. Maybe a bit early in my opinion. She may have been done – but why not let it play out? Tate doesn’t seem to be complaining (or at least they aren’t showing it if she is).

(TUF 17 Finals) Kelvin Gastelum vs. Uriah Hall

Round 1 – I picked Hall to win this fight but he really could have his hands full here. It’s by no means a given. Kelvin pursuing, left from Kelvin, right, clinches Hall against the cage. Knee to body from Gastelum. Shoulder shot. Trade knees to the body. Gastelum backs out. Big inside leg kick from Gastelum. Superman punch. Front kick Hall. Head kick Hall. Leg kick. Left hand. Leg kick Gastelum. He’s head hunting, lands two lefts and backs Hall up. Hall slips a few shots, left hand, front kick. Gastelum looking for the KO, gets a big takedown, ends up on top in half guard. Looks for a kimura, lets it go. Hall hangs on from bottom. Gastelum postures up with punches as Hall punches him from the bottom. Hall gets his back to the cage, to his knees and feet now. Big leg kick from Hall, right hand. Leg kick Gastelum. Left hand Hall and he gets a takedown. Gastelum gets right up as Hall presses him to the cage. I’ve got it 10-9 Gastelum.

Round 2 – Touch gloves. Leg kick Gastelum. Jab from Hall. Right counter punch, body kick, jab, spinning back kick, head kick. Slips an overhand right. Looking like Anderson Silva. Gastelum shoots and gets a double leg takedown. Gastelum on top in half guard. Chants of “Kelvin” ring out through Mandalay Bay. Body shots from Gastelum. He tries to mount but Hall reverses him and ends up on top. Gastelum gets up, takes a knee to the body and a left hand. Thai plum and knee to body from Hall. Gastelum presses him to the cage. Two minutes left. Knee from Kelvin, Hall with a trip takedown. Hall in half guard trying to stay busy. Couple short elbows from Hall. Kelvin gets to his knees and feet. Knee to thigh from behind from Hall. Big suplex from Hall but Gastelum gets right to his feet, pressed him to the cage. I’ve got it 10-9 Hall.

Round 3 – Touch gloves. Knee from Hall to the body halts Gastelum’s charge. Brief time as ref said it was low. Leg kick from Kelvin. Leg kick from Hall. Side kick. Leg kick. Big jab from Hall. Looks like Silva. Gastelum shoots, body lock takedown but a remarkable reversal from Hall. He lands some big ground and pound before Gastelum gets to his feet. Best TUF finale fight in history. Forget Bonnar/Griffin. Clinch, Gastelum backs out. Two minutes to go. Head kick Hall, mostly blocked. Jab from Hall. Overhand left from Gastelum. Nice leg kick from Gastelum. Gastelum gets a double leg takedown, looks to try and set up an arm bar. Under a minute to go. Hall punching from his back and landing elbows. Hall gets top control before the bell. AMAZING!!  Just like BONNAR/GRIFFIN they both deserve contracts!!!  But I have the last round for Hall by a nose 10-9 and the fight 29-28 for Hall.

Urijah Faber vs. Scott Jorgensen

Round 1 – Leg kick from Jorgensen, Faber backs him up with punches forcing the shot from Jorgensen. He presses Faber to the cage. Faber is one of the most explosive fighters in the game. That fast twitch of his is amazing to watch. Jorgensen muscles the takedown. Faber uses the cage to get to his feet, Jorgensen with a body lock from the back, Faber grabs his leg and counters with his own drop back takedown. Jorgensen on his knees, Faber goes for his back. Jorgensen to his feet.Faber lands a left. Then a left hook and a knee. Jorgensen shoots, Faber jumps on his back with a figure four body lock. Jorgensen gets to his knees, both hooks in from Faber. Big elbow to the side of the head. Jorgensen to his feet, knees, Faber rolls and drops for a guillotine. Jorgensen wincing, defends but Faber ends up on top in half guard. Jorgensen to his knees, Faber gets his back, both hooks in. Jorgensen removes one hook and Faber hangs on his back until the bell. All Faber 10-9.

Jumping knee, right hand from Faber. Faber with his hands down. Counter left from Jorgensen. Nice uppercut from Faber. Jorgensen shoots, wizzer from Faber and they’re back to the feet. Jorgensen meets a high knee on the shot. Big left hook from Faber. Inside and outside leg kicks from Jorgensen. Body shot Faber. Shoots, pushes Jorgensen to the cage, elbow on the break. Jorgensen pursues. Faber times a perfect takedown. Body shots from Faber as Jorgensen looks for a kimura. Faber rolls with it back to his feet and Jorgensen meets him there. Jorgensen lands a right left. Right from Faber. Clinch, turns Jorgensen to the cage, Jorgensen turns him back around. Faber turns him around. Jorgensen escapes to the center. Left hand. Right left from Faber. Big right from Faber. Head kick and Jorgensen seems annoyed at the lack of impact. Body shot from Faber. Nice left hook. Looks for a leg. Jorgensen backs him up, clinches. Jorgensen gets a bodylock from the back, Faber escapes. Lands a left hook. Knee to body, right hand. Big left hand from Jorgensen. Faber shoots, stuffed, Jorgensen grabs a Thai clinch and throws Faber down. Big elbow from Jorgensen as he backs out of the clinch. Leg kick. Body head combo from Faber. Left hook from Jorgensen. Big leg kick. Left hook. Faber with a left hook. Nice right from Jorgensen. Body head combo from Faber, shoots and gets the takedown, jumps on Jorgensen’s back but I’ve got that round for Jorgensen 10-9.

Round 4 – Left hook Faber, two leg kicks, three from Jorgensen. Body kick from Faber. Big punch exchanges. Clinch, trip takedown from Faber, but Jorgensen gets right up. Faber lands some nice punches. Jorgensen shoots, stuffed. Uppercut from Jorgensen. Uppercut from Faber. Left hook, knee from Jorgensen. Elbow from Jorgensen on the break. Clinch, knee from Faber. Knee from Faber to the face as Jorgensen ducks in. Looking like a bit of a sparring match now with no real sense of urgency. I think we’ve already seen the main event to be honest with Tate/Zingano. Faber shoots, gets the takedown, takes Jorgensen’s back, sinks in the choke with the figure four body lock and Jorgensen taps out.

Chicks just do not have it when it comes to reffing. tate was hurt, but I would have let it continue as it looks as though she could have gone on, and she was going to try and get back up. it should not have been stopped yet. I do not dislike either gal. Would love to see a 4 gal round robin cage fight: rhoussy, zingano, tate, ciborg. The one with the most wins obviously wins.
