UFC heavyweight Matt Mitrione offered his opinion on transgender fighter Fallon Fox and whether or not she should be allowed to fight in women’s MMA on Monday.

The statements he made caused the UFC to suspend him, citing a breach of the UFC’s Code of Conduct. However, Fox issued a statement to MMAFighting.com on Tuesday regarding what Mitrione said:

Matt Mitrione went well beyond disagreeing with the medical experts who say I should be able to compete as a woman, and personally attacked me as a fighter, as a woman, and as a human being.

“His comments do not reflect the spirit of our sport, where most competitors uphold values like respect and dignity.”
It’s a tame response and one that doesn’t allow more negativity towards the entire situation. Mitrione did attack her on all those fronts without addressing the actual issue why she should or should not be able to compete in women’s MMA. He certainly could have been more tactful in his approach, and that’s the main reason why he has been suspended by the UFC.
