Georges St-Pierre UFC[ads2]
All good things must come to an end — or so the saying goes. For his sake, Anderson Silva better hope Georges St-Pierre is better at fighting than he is at predicting fights, because the UFC welterweight champ doesn’t see a bright ending for “The Spider’s” upcoming bout with No. 1 185-pound contender, Chris Weidman.

In fact, St-Pierre is predicting Weidman will finish Silva quickly to become the new UFC middleweight champion. During a recent interview with “Showdown” Joe Ferraro of SportsNet Canada, St-Pierre said:

“I believe he’s [Chris Weidman] (is) going to beat Anderson Silva. I believe it’s a bad match-up for Anderson Silva, it’s very bad. Not only is he going to beat him, I believe he’s going to finish Anderson Silva. I believe it’s not going to be too long that fight. People will be shocked.”

It’s true, people would be shocked — that’s an understatement. Not because Weidman doesn’t have the tools to win, but because it’s Anderson Silva we’re talking about here. The guy has held the UFC middleweight title since 2006! Let that sink in.

For more than six years he has sat atop the throne. He’s defended his title 10 times. When there was no one left to fight, he moved up to 205 pounds and entertained the fans with quick knockouts over legitimate competition.

Sixteen straight fights — 16 straight wins inside the UFC Octagon. Could Chris Weidman really be the one to put a stop to the reign? Could this 28-year-old (he’ll be 29 on fight day) Long Island fighter with a record of 9-0 put an end to the legacy of Anderson “The Spider” Silva?

Silva will be 38-years-old when they step in the Octagon on July 6 in Las Vegas for the UFC 162 main event. Everybody gets old, and it’s rarer than a unicorn to see a fighter go out on top — to retire while they’re still the champ. It practically never happens.

It also practically never happens a man can win 16 straight fights anywhere, much less in the UFC against the absolute top competition in the world. So, who you got? Do you side with GSP, or will Anderson Silva do what Anderson Silva does?

Weidman almost didn’t get this fight, again. There was talk if Rashad Evans had won his last fight against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at UFC 156, that he was going to drop down to 185 pounds and fight Silva for the title.

Take a look as Weidman learns of Evans’ loss and he gives his thoughts on facing Silva. Weidman also says [if he defeats Silva] there will be an immediate rematch at Madison Square Garden in his home state of New York (that’s assuming of course it’s legalized in New York by then).
