Ronda Rousey vs. Liz Carmouche

Ronda Rousey has done it again.

The UFC women’s bantamweight champion overcame an early scare, surviving a rear naked choke attempt by Liz Carmouche, to win yet another fight by armbar in the first round.

The champion came out and closed the distance quickly, doubling and tripling up on her jab before putting Carmouche on the cage. Rousey worked the challenger to the mat, but ended up with Carmouche on her back, and quickly found herself in trouble for the first time in her career.

Carmouche worked on a neck crank, then looked to cinch up the rear naked choke, but Rousey was able to survive the adversity and then shake the challenger off her back. Rousey moved to side control and unleashed a flurry of left hands forcing Carmouche to scramble out of trouble. Once Carmouch did, Rousey transitioned to her favorite technique, isolating the right arm of Carmouche. The challenger defended well, but the champion would not be denied, adjusting her grip and extending the arm forcing the tap with just 11 seconds to go in the opening round.

The historical win improves Ronda Rousey’s record to 7-0 (1-0 UFC), as she defends her title for the first time in the first ever women’s UFC bout. Liz Carmouche drops to 8-3 (0-1 UFC) with the loss.
