UFC Interim welterweight champion Carlos Condit

It was recently announced that Carlos Condit will now face Johny Hendricks at UFC 158, after Rory MacDonald was forced to withdraw from the contest due to injury. It seems that Condit is completely unfazed by the change of opponent and is ready for the challenge.

In an official statement released by his management, Carlos Condit said:

“I have been training for Rory MacDonald, but there is plenty of time left to switch my focus to Hendricks. With eight weeks left, I will need every moment to be fully prepared for this battle. He’s called me out in the past, and now is his chance to try to back that talk up. I’ll be ready for him.” – Carlos Condit

Carlos Condit last fought at UFC 154 in November 2012, where he dropped a unanimous decision loss against current UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre. Condit is one of those fighters that seems to stay in shape all year round and by the sounds of it he is looking forward to an aggressive war with Hendricks.

“While I was disappointed to hear that Rory MacDonald is injured, I am glad that the UFC was able to find a strong replacement for the fight in Johny Hendricks. He is one of the toughest Welterweights in the world, and has quickly risen up the ladder in our division. We are similar in that we like to stay active and aggressive in our fights, so this should be a great fight for the fans to watch.” – Carlos Condit

Condit is not one to shy away from fights, and although changing opponents is never ideal it seems Carlos is more then willing to do battle with rising prospect Johny Hendricks. A victory over Condit would definitely put Hendricks at the top of the pile for a title shot, which is something he has desperately been looking for. However, Carlos will be looking to get himself back in the title picture and defeating Johny is the next step towards achieving that.
