UFC President Dana White told a group of reporters in London that Alexander Gustafsson will receive a title shot with a win over Strikeforce import and former light heavyweight champion Gegard Mousasi.
Gustafsson will take on Mousasi in UFC on FUEL TV 9 main event that’s set to take place on April 6 in Stockholm, Sweden.
The event will take place at the Ericsson Globe Arena in Stockholm.
White indicated that it’s a big fight for Mousasi but mentioned the following regarding Gustafsson:
“If Mousasi beats Gustafsson, he skyrockets right to the top of that division,” White said. “And as far as Gustafsson goes, if he beats Mousasi in that fight, he’s in line for a title shot.
Gustafsson (15-1) has rattled off six straight wins since suffering his lone defeat against Phil Davis in 2010. He was victorious in his last outing as he defeated former champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua via unanimous decision in December.
Mousasi (33-3-2) took out Mike Kyle at the final Strikeforce event in January. Mousasi is (5-0-1) since April 2010 loss to King Mo Lawal.
