jon-jones_vitor-belfortUFC middleweight Vitor Belfort made quick work of Michael Bisping in the main event of the UFC on FX 7 card in Sao Paulo, Brazil on Saturday night.

However, he made a surprising request in his post-fight interview with Jon Anik when he called for a rematch with UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones and not UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva.

Belfort has losses to both fighters with Silva knocking him out via front kick in the first round at UFC 126. Jones submitted Belfort at UFC 152 in the fourth round after giving Jones a scare with a deep armbar attempt in the first round.

It was a surprise that Belfort wanted to fight Jones after competing as a middleweight since coming back to the UFC. The title shot he received at UFC 152 was due to circumstances revolving around the cancellation of UFC 151 when Dan Henderson pulled out of a bout with Jones on very short notice. Jon Jones is scheduled to face Chael Sonnen at UFC 159, but Belfort pulled no punches on how he feels about Sonnen getting the next title shot.

Check Belfort’s request to fight Jones again below:

Chael Sonnen speaks with tons of hyperbole at times, but he gets right to the point and accepts a bout with Belfort should the opportunity come about in the clip above.

There appears to be a line forming to fight Jon Jones at the moment. Alexander Gustafsson will take on Strikeforce import Gegard Mousasi in a couple of months. The winner of that fight is ‘in the mix’ as UFC President Dana White likes to say. There’s also the possiblity of Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix winner Daniel Cormier dropping down to the UFC light heavyweight division. Things will be getting very interesting in the coming months and Jon Jones appears to have a big target on his back.
