Gonzaga-Rothwell

Gabriel Gonzaga used his right hand to soften up Ben Rothwell, then went to his submission game to end the fight at 1:01 of the second round, winning by guillotine choke to earn his second straight fight since returning to the UFC.

An uneventful opening round saw Gabriel Gonzaga shoot repeatedly for take downs. Gonzaga was able to drag Rothwell to the mat several times but could not secure him there as Rothwell found his way back to his feet. Later in the round Gonzaga found a home for his lead right hand, scoring the most significant strikes of the first round.

Gonzaga went right back to his right hand to start the second, backing up Rothwell before locking up a standing guillotine. As Gonzaga adjusted his grip, he pulled guard looking for the finish. Once on the ground, Rothwell had no answer for the choke and was forced to tap just over a minute into the round.

With the win, Gonzaga (14-6 MMA) moves to 9-5 in the UFC, winning his second consecutive bout inside the octagon by submission.
