C.B. Dollaway weathered an early storm against the powerful Daniel Sarafian before finding his rhythm as he battled to a hard fought split decision victory with scores of 29-28, 28-29, and 29-28 in the co-main event of UFC on FX 7.
Daniel Sarafian marched forward to start the opening round, getting inside to land his right hand on the much taller C.B. Dollaway. Dollaway stayed patient using his kicks to establish his range, effectively employing his reach advantage early. Sarafian used his blitzing style to get inside and land a flurry, driving Dollaway into the cage. He then landed a winging overhand right that dropped Dollaway. Dollaway recovered quickly, looking to turn the tables and get top control, but couldn’t as Sarafian scrambled back to his feet and continued to engage.
Dollaway came out more aggressive in the second, chasing Sarafian around the octagon and establishing his jab early. He then went to his kicks, but again it was Sarafian that landed with more power, as he continued to connect with his powerful right hand. A clipping right hand drove Dollaway backward midway through the round, but he quickly got back to stalking Sarafian. Dollaway then stunned Sarafian with a flush uppercut as the Brazilian came forward. Dollaway looked for the finish, pouring on a barrage of right hands until the bell sounded on the second stanza.
After a slow start tot he third, both guys landed in a big exchange. Dollaway then turned the fight into a ground battle getting his first takedown and putting Sarafian on the cage. Sarafian was able to get back to his feet but quickly found himself back on the ground and mounted. Sarafian worked to half guard then executed a picture perfect sweep to turn the tables on Dollaway. He then took the back of Dollaway and went for the rear naked choke but could not secure the choke. Dollaway managed to turn into Sarafian and regain top control just before the bell sounded on the bout.
The win improves the record of C.B. Dollaway to 14-4 overall, giving him his seventh win in the octagon.
