There were two UFC events this weekend with the TUF 16 Finale and the UFC on FX 6 event. There were some entertaining fights, but only a couple of ranked fighters were featured on each card. We’ll go through some of the winner’s and losers and see what’s next up for them.

Roy Nelson: There are really no fights out there that make sense for Nelson at the moment. He has either lost to the top guys or they have fights lined up already. One interesting fight would be against Josh Barnett should he make his way over to the UFC after this final Strikeforce fight. Other than that…Nelson will need to wait on the sidelines or fight his original opponent Shane Carwin, but Nelson has said he isn’t interested in that fight.

Matt Mitrione: Man, time is not on this guys side and he’s lost back-to-back fights. Shane Del Rosario has also lost back-to-back fights. Make it happen.

Hector Lombard: Looked like a killer against Rousimar Palhares. Then again it’s the very one dimensional Rousimar Palhares that also suffered a broken foot early in that fight. Nevertheless, Lombard is an explosive fighter, and a matchup with Strikeforce middleweight champion Luke Rockhold makes plenty of sense to me.

Chad Mendes: Mendes is in a tough spot in that he got decimated by Jose Aldo when he challenged for the title. He has received two ‘gimme’ fights since the loss and now it’s time to fight legitimate competition again. He should fight the winner of the Clay Guida vs. Hatsu Hioki fight that will take place at the UFC on FOX 6 event in January.

Pat Barry: Barry is a fun fighter to watch because you know exactly what you are going to get. He’ll never be champion as a heavyweight, but you’ll watch him fight every time. The winner of the Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Ben Rothwell fight at UFC on FX 7 in January would be an interesting fight.

Dustin Poirier: Poirier bounced back from his first career loss nicely and is in a position where he’ll need to face top ten competition from here on out. A matchup with Dennis Siver makes sense here as they both fought and were victorious this weekend. Many think Siver is on the short track to a title shot, but Poirier would be a nice step up from Nam Phan.

Mike Pyle: The wily old veteran just keeps winning. A bout with Mike Pierce makes the most sense as both fighters have put nice little win streaks together and just fought this past weekend.

Rustam Khabilov: Now THAT is how you make your UFC debut. Gleison Tibau would be a good test for the young prospect.

TJ Waldburger: Nice win for Waldburger. A bout with John Hathaway makes sense here.
