UFC President Dana White dropped a few nuggets in a TUF 16 Finale post-fight media scrum. He suggested that Michael Bisping would likely get a shot at the UFC middleweight title held by Anderson Silva.

“If Bisping wins, Bisping will probably get that next shot.”

Bisping (23-4) has been lobbying for a title shot for a while even though his biggest win at middleweight came in his last fight against Brian Stann. Bisping is (9-3) as a middleweight and has won five of his last six with the only blemish being a unanimous decision loss to two time middleweight title contender Chael Sonnen.

UFC middleweight Chris Weidman has also been lobbying hard for a shot at Anderson Silva, but he does not have the name recognition that Bisping brings to the table. However, he likely poses more of a threat to defeat Silva than Bisping, but will be out of action for a few months after just going through shoulder surgery.

Michael Bisping will face Vitor Belfort in the main event of the UFC on FX 7 main event on January 19th in Brazil. Belfort and Anderson Silva also have history as Silva successfully defended his title against Belfort at UFC 126 via first round KO. It’s unclear if Belfort would be given the same opportunity to face Silva again should he get past Bisping. He has won back-to-back fights since the loss to Silva.
