Erick Silva

UFC officials announced that a welterweight showdown between Erick Silva and Jay Hieron has been added to the UFC 156 lineup.

UFC 156 will take place on February 2nd in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay Events Center, and will be headlined by the UFC featherweight title fight between Jose Aldo and Frankie Edgar.

Silva (15-3, 1DQ) is coming off a unanimous decision loss against Jon Fitch at UFC 153. Silva had looked impressive in his three previous UFC outings, but the experience and wrestling control of Fitch was too much for Silva at the time.

Hieron (23-6) is coming off a extremely close unanimous decision loss against Jake Ellenberger at the UFC on FX 5 event.  Hieron had been competing in different promotions since his first UFC stint came to an end in 2005.

The UFC 156 lineup thus far is below:

  • Jose Aldo vs. Frankie Edgar
  • Alistair Overeem vs. Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva
  • Rashad Evans vs. Antonio “Rogerio” Nogueira
  • Jon Fitch vs. Demian Maia
  • Erick Silva vs. Jay Hieron
