Bellator 76 LIVE results and play-by-play

Bellator 76 takes place this evening at Caesars Windsor Hotel & Casino in Ontario, Canada and features a main event between former lightweight champ Eddie Alvarez and Patricky “Pitbull” Freire. The quarterfinal round of Bellator’s Season 7 featherweight tournament also gets underway this evening.

Bellator Season 7 Featherweight Tournament Quarterfinal
Cody Bollinger vs. Shahbulat Shamhalaev

Round 1 – Bollinger had Shamhalaev in an omoplata, switched to a gogoplata but Shamhalaev was able to eventually escape. He then controlled top position and used ground and pound to hurt Bollinger. Shamhalaev kept pounding on him, Bollinger went into pure defense mode until the ref stepped in with just 11 seconds left in round one.

Mike Richman vs. Jeremy Spoon

Round 1 – Here we go cow-pokes. Leg kick Spoon. Left from Richman and then a left head kick drops Spoon, a left hand follow-up and this fight is over folks, just like that. Big John McCarthy stops it. This is the first time Spoon has ever been finished, and only had one loss prior to this bout. No celebration from Richman… all business.

Bellator Season 7 Featherweight Tournament Quarterfinal
Akop Stepanyan vs. Waggney Fabiano

Round 1 – Fabiano shoots, sprawl from Stepanyan. Fabiano with a right hook. Big leg kick from Stepanyan. They both swing big and miss. Again. Right counter from Stepanyan and a huge right roundhouse kick to the body. Fabiano shoots without a setup, gets a body lock against the cage, tries to trip and gets it, lands in side control. Stepanyan gets to his feet but Fabiano gets a single leg and gets him back down. Back in side control. Stepanyan with a butterfly, Fabiano gets full mount, goes for a belly down armbar. Stepanyan rolls over. Fabiano with a regular armbar now. He won’t tap, Fabiano readjusts and finally Stepanyan taps out after Fabiano cranks the elbow the wrong way. Not a Ronda Rousey mangling but it definitely popped and hyper-extended.

Bellator Season 7 Featherweight Tournament Quarterfinal
Nazareno Malegarie vs. Rad Martinez

Round 1 – Big Leg kick from Malegarie, again, Thai clinch and knees. A little blood coming out his nose though from punches from Martinez. Uppercut from Martinez. They clinch up briefly and Malegarie’s nose bleeding more now. High kick from Martinez, counter one two from Malegarie. Nice left from Martinez. Big leg kick from Malegarie. Nice left hook from Martinez. Six punch combo from Malegarie, Inside leg kick from Martinez. Great action so far. Leg kick from Martinez, inside. clinch, exchange of knees. Martinez lands a big left on the break and Malegarie is rocked. They clinch up, exchange big shots and Malegarie seems okay now. Inside leg kick and a left from Martinez, right counter from Malegarie, then a left connects. Malegarie gets drops to his butt, mostly a slip it seems after getting hit. He gets right up and they go right back at it. Martinez gets the takedown before the bell and probably takes the round. Very close though. Malegarie looks worse for the wear with the bloody face. PMN scores it 10-9 for Martinez.

Round 2 – Malegarie connects with a one two, shoots, gets Martinez to his knees, lands some lefts and a left hook as they go back to their feet. Martinez shoots, grabs a single. Malegarie pushes him off, they square up. Martinez slips on a roundhouse. They trade in the pocket, both landing nice hooks. Body kick from Martinez. Couple of nice lefts from Martinez. They both score with a couple shots. Inside leg kick and a left hook from Martinez. One two three from Martinez, big left on the button. Right from Malegarie. Body kick from Martinez. Right from Malegarie counters. They tie up against the cage. Body kick and a left from Martinez. PMN scores the round 10-9 Martinez.

Round 3 – One two from Malegarie, Martinez puts him down. Sweep from Malegarie but Martinez is back to his feet. Nice left from Martinez, right jab. Inside leg kick and a left. Malegarie shoots. Martinez stuffs it, eats a knee to the body. Martinez gets Malegarie down to one knee but he gets right up. They exchange a few punches, both landing and both slowing down. Left from Martinez as Malegarie shoots. They tie up, Malegarie looks for a trip then backs out. Left from Martinez, left hook and a right from Malegarie. Exchange knees. Right from Malegarie but Martinez rocks him with a couple big shots and has him on his heels. Knee from Malegarie from the Thai plum. Martinez shoots and gets Malegarie to his knees, he gets up but Martinez still holding on, backs out. Thirty seconds left and Martinez drops him with punches, lands more shots as Malegarie gets up and Martinez gets a takedown and ground and pound to seal the deal. PMN scores the round 10-9 and the fight 30-27 for Rad Martinez.

Eddie Alvarez vs. Patricky Freire

Round 1 – Will Alvarez get dropped, that’s the question. Feints from Alvarez, lands a leg kick. Body shot from Alvarez. Alvarez drops Pitbull, he misses with the huge follow up right. Pitbull is up and hurts Alvarez with a shot and puts him on his heels. Alvarez ties him up. PItbull lands a knee to the bread basket. Alvarez pushing him against the cage. Knee from Pitbull. Chants of “Eddie” ring out. Great opening exchange. Knees to the thighs from Eddie. Pitbull pulls out to the center. They square up. Eddie got hurt back there. Swelling under Pitbull’s left eye. Body shot combo from Eddie, low goes high. Leg kick from Pitbull. Nice right from Eddie, counter right from Pitbull. Great angles from Eddie. Flashing the jab. Body kick from Pitbull. Trying to time Eddie’s attack. Eddie bouncing in and out. Pitbull lands a knee as Eddie comes in. Eddie just knocked him out with a head kick, he jumps over the cage, hugs his woman and runs up into the stairs of the arena. Pitbull is out cold guys. Devastating. My god guys. This guy just raised his stock big time — look for Alvarez to sign with the UFC with a nice fat contract after that! It was a right high kick, caught Pitbull looking down, shin to chin baby. — Oh, and Alvarez did get dropped — but came back just as his does 99.9% of the time.
