UFC 152 LIVE results and play-by-play

Two title fights headline UFC 152 this evening which is being held at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones puts his belt on the line against former champion Vitor Belfort, and Demetrious Johnson and Joseph Benavidez clash in what will be the UFC’s first-ever flyweight championship.

UFC 152 play-by-play:

Charlie Brenneman vs. Kyle Noke

Round 1 – Nice stiff jab from Noke. Lans another left jab, drops Brenneman with a right. He follows up with a few more big punches while Brenneman is trying to get up and he goes down again and Dan Migliotta stops the fight. Brenneman is instantly to his feet asking why he stopped it. Seemed a little early to me to stop it.

Mitch Gagnon vs. Walel Watson

Round 1 – Leg kick from Watson. Gagnon drops Watson with a huge left, catches him coming in — counters a Superman punch that misses. He pounces, takes Watson’s back, both hooks in, locks up the choke and Watson taps out. Beautiful performance by Mitch Gagnon.

Seth Baczynski vs. Simeon Thoresen

Round 1 – Left from Baczynski. High kick. Leg kick from Thorensen. Again, on the outside this time. Left jab from Thorensen scores. Right hand from Thorensen. Body kick. Right hand, bets caught with a counter left from Baczynski. Leg kick from Thorensen. Nice left from Thorensen. Baczynski’s lip bleeding. Leg kick from Thorensen, then a right hand. Baczynski pokes Thorensen in the eye with a left hand and a brief time out is called. Body kick from Thorensen. Baczynski knocks Simeon Thorensen unconscious with a counter left hook after slipping a right hand. Thorensen falls face first to the canvas and is stiff.

Jim Hettes vs. Marcus Brimage

Round 1 – Left to the body from Brimage. Drops Hettes with a right. Hettes shoots, stuffed. Big overhand left from Brimage. Hettes seems okay for now. He shoots again, stuffed. Left to the body from Brimage. Left right from Brimage. Low kick from Hettes lands to the groin, Brimage shrugs it off. Brimage sweeps the back leg and puts Hettes hard on his butt. Brimage catches him with a left and drops him. Hettes tries pulling guard as Brimage attacks. Brimage stands up, lands a left. Knee from Hettes to the face. Brimage connects again. Hettes still coming forward, lands a right. Brimage lands a one two. Great fight. Hettes taking some punishment but still coming forward throwing shots. Hettes connects with a left but Brimage fires back. Hettes with a right hook, again, a left. Brimage slowing down. Hettes putting on the pressure. Brimage connects with a one two. Hettes connects and is right in his face. Great action!  PMN scores the round 10-9 for Brimage.

Round 2 – Brimage with a bit of a cut over his eye. Hettes misses a head kick and Brimage unleashes some punches. Lands a body shot, a left to the face. Body lock takedown from Hettes, lands in half guard. Elbow from Hettes. He gets Brimage’s back but Brimage rolls out and to his feet. Right to the body from Brimage. Jumping knee from Hettes lands on the chin. Hettes gets him down, goes for a guillotine, takes his back with a body triangle, looking for the choke. Brimage gets to his knees. Hettes pulls him back down and regains the body triangle. Under two minutes to go in the round. Mount from Hettes very briefly as Brimage escapes to his feet. Jab from Hettes. Big left from Brimage. Big leg kick from Benoist as they move to the center. Leg kick from Benoist, caught by Pierson, gets put on his back. Benoist goes for an armbar. Pierson inside full guard. Now back to an armbar, then to omoplata. Pierson escapes, lands a couple punches as Benoist gets up. One two from Benoist but Pierson lands a couple big body shots that stun Benoist. Pierson ties him up against the cage, leaning on him. They separate back to the middle. Right counter from Pierson. They swing big and miss. Leg kick from Benoist, gets countered with a punch or two. Round 2 – Left from Benoist, right from Pierson. Pierson presses him to the cage where they exchange some heavy shots. Benoist escapes to the center. They square up. Right counter from Pierson. Round 1 – Igor looks focused. Touch gloves. Clinch, knee from Vinny. Body shot from Igor. He presses Vinny to the cage. Knees from Vinny. More knees from Vinny. He gets a hip toss takedown, knee to bell. Couple big punches from Vinny from top position. Wrist control from Igor. Vinny dives in with a punch but hits the ground. Vinny postures up inside full guard. Big elbows from Igor to the side of the head. Vinny takes side control, goes for an armbar. He lets it go with Igor in top control inside his full guard. Good defense from Igor. Igor postures up and misses a huge right. Elbow off his back from Vinny. Mission control from Vinny. Elbows from Vinny. Vinny opens his guard and lets Igor to his feet. Vinny clinches, eats an elbow as Igor presses him to the cage. Knee from Vinny, body shots from Igor. One two from Igor staggers Vinny, he shoots, bell sounds. PMN scores the round 10-9 Vinny.

Round 2 – After a brief exchange Igor takes Vinny down, Vinny automatically locks up a triangle, switches to an armbar and straightens it out. It’s a wrap son. Igor’s arm appears to have been compromised in the submission.

Cub Swanson vs. Charles Oliveira

Round 1 – Jab from Oliveira. Nice leg kick from Cub. Left hook from Cub. Big takedown from Oliveira. Oliveira on top, elbow, inside full guard. Elbow. Again. Cub gets to his feet. Oliveira with good defense on the feet. Goes for a trip takedown but Cub fights it off. Leg kick from Oliveira. Nice big left hook to the body from Cub. Overhand right from Cub connects to the temple area and Oliveira’s legs give out from under him and he just collapses to the ground. Beautiful finish by Cub Swanson.

Matt Hamill vs. Roger Hollett

Round 1 – Leg kick from Hamill, right in Hollett’s face. Leg kick jab. Left hook from Hamill, leg kick. Overhand right from Hollett, left to the body. Hamill back in his face. Body kick from Hamill. Leg kick. Overhand right from Hollett. Left hook Hamill, jab. Left hook Hollett. Left hook from Hamill. Boos from the crowd. Hamill right in Hollett’s face. Hamill shoots for a single, gets the takedown. Hollett turtles up and Hamill throws big punches to the side of the head. Hollett tries to get up but Hamill keeps on the pressure. Hammerfists to the side of the head, bunches of them. Hollett gets to his feet. Big right to the body from Hollett. PMN scores the round 10-8 Hamill.

Round 2 – Body shot, left hook to the body from Hollett. Another hook to the body as Hamill tries to shoot. Front kick. Hamill set a record with 74 significant strikes for a light heavyweight in round one. He looks to have tired a bit possibly. Hamill with the takedown. Inside full guard. Hamill can’t get anything going and stands up, lets Hollett up. Boos from the crowd. Spinning back kick to the body from Hollett. Body shot from Hollett. Leg kick from Hollett. Hamill looks done. Lazy shot, shrugged off. Jab from Hamill. Ref wants action. Body shot Hollett. Jab Hamill. Takedown from Hamill. And probably  just stole the round. PMN scores it 10-9 Hamill.

Round 3 – Left hook Hollett, jab from Hamill. Body shot Hollett. Jab from Hamill. Easy takedown by Hamill. Hamill postures up with a couple punches. Hollett turtles up and Hamill lands several punches to the side of the head. Hamill has never had a submission victory. Too bad cause he could easily take his back here. Too bad Hamill never really evolved that ground game. Hollett gets to his feet, lands a hammerfist on the way up, lands a body shot. Hamill with another easy takedown. Hamill inside Hollett’s full guard. Lands a couple punches but the ref stands them up with under a minute to go. Hamill pushes him to the cage, gets another takedown. One two Bisping, counter right Stann, leg kick. Jab Bisping. Bisping shoots, can’t get it. Presses Stann to the cage. Nice elbow from Bisping. Leg kick Stann. Right from Stann. They trade big shots, both landing. Stann lands a kick to the groin. Bisping landed one earlier and Stann shrugged it off. Left counter from Stann, leg kick, again. Stann catches a body kick, lands a leg kick. Lands a body kick. Bisping shoots, stuffed, eats a huge right, he’s hurt and Stann goes for the kill. Bisping ties him up at the bell. Round 2 – Bisping got wobbled pretty good last round. Leg kick Stann. Jab Bisping. Left Bisping. Bisping shoots, big slam by Bisping, lands in side control. Thai clinch and a couple knees from Stann. High kick from Stann. Bisping lands a one two. Right from Stann. Jab from Bisping. One two from Stann. Bisping shoots, stuffed, but ends up getting the trip takedown. STann gets right up, they trade shots. Bisping shoots, stuffed. Stann lands a couple more before the bell. Wow. Close guys. Real close. I gotta give it to Bisping I think because of the last round I think he probably out-pointed Stann, even though he did nothing with the takedowns in the third and Stann got right up. So close. Round 1 – Leg kick from Joseph. They tie up, couple knees from Joe. They break and square up. Joe ties him up against the cage. Knee from Johnson. Again. Leg kick from Johnson. Right from Johnson catches Joe coming in. Right from Joe, shoots, stuffed, lands a right on the break. Tie up against the cage, Joe leaning on him. Front kick from Johnson. Joe ties him up. Knee from Johnson. Front kick. Body shot from Joe. Leg kick from Johnson. Right hand from Johnson. Joe trying to catch him but Johnson is gone. Joe rolls for a kneebar but time is up. PMN scores the round 10-9 Johnson.

Round 2 – They tie up, knees from Johnson, leg kick. Leg kick from Johnson. Benavidez with a punch and a leg kick. Right from Joe. Big leg kick from Johnson. Joe ties him up, elbow, knee. He jumps on the guillotine from the mount, he’s under the chin. Johnson escapes, goes for a kneebar. Joe escapes and is on top in half guard. Joe moves to side control. Johnson gets out and to his feet. Two minutes to go. Knee from Johnson. Again. Benavidez goes for a takedown but ends up on the bottom. They scramble, body lock from Johnson. They trade knees. Johnson ducks and gets a takedown, lands a head kick on the break. Beautiful duck under takedown from Johnson, lands in side control, elbows to the body from Johnson. Body shots. How do you score that round? I have to give it to Johnson as he came back with two takedowns. PMN scores it 10-9 Johnson.

Round 5 – Leg kick Johnson. Body kick Johnson. Big takedown for Johnson. Joe gets right up though. Johnson slams him again. High kick Johnson. Left counter Johnson. Jab. Another takedown by Johnson, lands in side control. Joe gets to his knees, then feet, takes a couple knees. Jab from Johnson. Counter from Johnson. Right from Joe. Joe shoots, stuffed. Eats a kick. Leg kick from Joe. Right counter from Joe. Right from Johnson. Under a minute to go. Joe shoots from outside, stuffed. They trade punches. Joe looking for the big shot. Backhand from Johnson. Jon Jones vs. Vitor Belfort

Round 1 – Touch gloves. Jones on all fours. He crawls toward Vitor. Jones shoots, Vitor on his back with full guard. Vitor hanging on Jon. Goes for an armbar, itls locked in. Jones tries to slam out. It’s deep, Jones is out. Big elbow from Jones. Elbows from Jon. Belfort is already cut over his right eye. Vitor throws up for an arm again. Big punch and big elbow from Jon. Vitor is a bloody mess with under two minutes left. Big left elbow from Jones. Chants of “Vitor”. More elbows from Jones inside the guard. Vitor throws up his legs but Jones stands up. Kicks his leg, axe kicks his body. Bell sounds. Vitor is up and walks to his corner. PMN scores the round 10-8. I think Jon’s arm is messed up. Jackson told Jon to feel no pain and to hit him with that elbow. Doctor checks Vitor. He said let’s fight.

Round 2 – Leg kick, body shot from Vitor. Front kick from Jones. Side kick to the knee. Spinning elbow attempt from Jones. Head kick Vitor. Head kick attempt Jones. Side kick to the knee of Vitor, again. Again. Leg kick from Jones. Jones swings big, misses. Front kick to the face and side kick to the knee from Jones. Vitor not doing much. Throws a couple punches, pulls guard. Big elbow from Jones. Again. Jones working the elbows. Only 10 seconds left and Vitor looks for triangle. PMN scores it 10-9 Jones.

Round 3 – Vitor checks a kick. Side kick to the body drops Vitor. Jones lays inside his guard. Elbow from Jones. Jones pulls out of an omoplata attempt and stands up. Vitor meets him on the feet. Tie up with two minutes to go and Vitor pulls guard. Elbows from Jones. Vitor trying to make something happen. Jon moves to half guard. Nasty elbows from Jones. Vitor moves to full guard. PMN scores the round 10-9 for Jones.

Round 4 – Head kick from Vitor, clinch, pulls guard. Jones in side control, locks on an Americana and cranks it quick and Vitor taps quickly. Jones is holding is elbow. I think he was fighting on a hurt arm since round one. Jones’ sixth win via submission; the most in light heavyweight UFC history.
