UFC lightweight Joe Lauzon

A new matchup has been announced for UFC 155 as Joe Lauzon (22-7) takes on Gray Maynard (11-1-1) in a lightweight battle. The date and venue have not been officially announced yet, but it is likely to take place on Dec. 29 in Las Vegas.

UFC officials confirmed the bout today via UFC.com.

UFC 155 will air live on PPV with the prelims expected to air on FX. Lauzon vs. Maynard is expected to feature as part of the main-card for the event.

Joe Lauzon last fought at UFC on FOX 4 earlier this month, where he finished Jamie Varner with a third round triangle choke submission which earned him “Submission of the Night” honors. The exciting performance from both men also earned “Fight of the Night”, which meant Joe left with two bonuses. Prior to that fight Lauzon was defeated by Anthony Pettis via first round KO at UFC 144 in February. That loss snapped a two fight winning streak Lauzon had built up after scoring back-to-back submission victories over Curt Warburton and Melvin Guillard during 2011.

Gray Maynard was last in action at UFC on FX 4, where he defeated Clay Guida via unanimous decision in June. Prior to that he was knocked out by Frankie Edgar during the fourth round of their third encounter at UFC 136 in October 2011. Since fighting for the UFC, Maynard has defeated notable fighters such as Dennis Siver, Jim Miller, Nate Diaz, and Kenny Florian. A big win over Lauzon will throw Gray back into the mix at 155.
