Coming off her 54-second armbar submission win over Sarah Kaufman this weekend, Strikeforce women’s bantamweight champion “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey talked with Inside MMA this evening about the fight all the fans want to see, her versus Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos.

Cris Cyborg has issued a full statement to Inside MMA in response to Rousey wanting her to come to 135 pounds to fight:

“I get many questions about Ronda Rousey, and I would like to set the record straight for the “last time”, as I do not consider her much personally, much less as a fighter.

“She claims she is the “Champion” and openly challenges me to fight at 135lbs. (She competed in the Beijing Olympics at 70kg/154lbs, and fought at 145lbs in MMA till she learned she would have to fight me, and then dropped to 135lbs.) Which I find laughable. I have never fought below 145lbs, and I am considered the pound for pond top women fighter in the WORLD! I have yet to lose a fight while holding the Strike Force 145lbs title. My last fight was considered a no contest, but that has NOT changed the fact that I AM the women’s 145lbs CHAMPION!

“There really is NOT a safe way for me to cut to 135lbs, not without hurting myself physically. (I am less than 8% body fat at 145lbs.) And my cardiologist and physician have advised me that to make such a drastic reduction in weight could have permanent effects in my long term health. And I will not endanger my health to satisfy the rantings of a spoiled little girl who has yet to prove that she can truly compete at the my level, at a weight she has not only fought at before but has been awarded an Olympic medal!

“So to put this issue to rest, if Rhonda is the future of WMMA, and is the “Champion” that she envisions….you know where I am, and I am more than willing to give you an opportunity to test me. I WILL fight you at 145lbs, (you know…the weight that you started at), and then you can have 2 belts, and prove to everyone that you are indeed a “Champion”.

“If not, stay at 135lbs and continue to delude yourself and your fans that you can beat me. Your really not worth my time otherwise. I will do all of my talking in the ring, until then your really not worth my breath.”

  1. Clearly Cris Cyborg is correct. She has an irrefutable argument. Ronda Rousey fought at 154lbs during the 2008 Olympics and she had to cut a lot of weight to make 154! Also the majority of her MMA career has been spent fighting in the 145lb weight division. Even Ronda has admitted publicly that she has to starve herself by subsisting on only one meal per day to fight at 135. Gina Carano, Marloes Coenen, Jan Finney, Shayna Baszla and others were not afraid to fight Cris Cyborg at 145. Ronda knows she will have to fight Cris at 145, however it looks like Ronda will do anything to avoid fighting Cris. It certainly appears that Ronda Rousey is afraid to fight Cris Cyborg.

  2. I completely agree… I love that Cris talks nothing but the truth and all Rousey does it talk trash…Rousey is young and immature and it completely shows in the way she talks and carries herself!!!!

  3. Ronda Rousey is really acting like a spoilt brat. a champion should not give excuses. A champion should fight anyone anywhere anytime! Gina, Jan finney Marloes and hiroko all have more heart than Ronda. Just because you won a olympic bronze by default and have a strong armbar does not mean you are a champ.

You are yet to prove you can do MMA. You are just giving excuses because you do not want to end your career and loose the hype but eventually people are not dumb they will find out you are fake! Rousey vs Kaufman tickets were not sold out, and people are bored for paying for events involving a 50 second fight and that predictable armbar.
You think all that hype surrounding you is real. Nobody really cares and as soon as the tickets stop selling and ratings go down you are history. So the advice is make as much money as you can in you short womens mma career and stop giving dumb excuses. You are not a multimillionaire like Mayweather or pacquiao to put forth conditions of abandon fights and loose big money.(you allways talk trash and we saw the shitty way you live with your roommate in that nasty house filled with trash)

  4. Cyborg states she is 8% bodyfat at 145. She was 7 pounds over weight for her last fight, when has she ever weighed 145? If she takes steroids to keep the extra muscle on then she is a fraud in any case. Cyborg isn’t the only Chute Boxe fighter to get caught using Stanozobol.
