UFC Heavyweight Champion Junior dos Santos

UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos has gone on record and stated that he wants to fight former Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem, not Cain Velasquez in his next fight.

UFC President Dana White revealed that he was told that by Dos Santos in a recent meeting with the heavyweight champion:

“I sat down with Junior Dos Santos yesterday…who is the nicest guy in the world …He’s the nicest guy in the world, but he said, I have nothing but respect for Cain Velasquez. I like him as a person and as a fighter, and I think he deserves the shot at the title. But I do not want to fight him, which is not what he said a month ago.

He said, Alistair Overeem is a punk. He’s got a big mouth, and he’s been saying lots of bad things about me, and I want to knock him out. I want to knock him out now. I said, Junior…I like that.”

White went on to say that he’s not sure what will happen but just wanted to share the fact that Dos Santos wants to fight Overeem really bad. Overeem is serving his suspension and will not be eligible to apply for a fighting license until December. Lorenzo Fertitta recently confirmed with ESPN that Dos Santos will fight in Las Vegas on December 29th.

Dos Santos knocked out Cain Velasquez at the UFC on FOX 1 show last November in just over a minute. Overeem made his successful debut at UFC 141, destroying former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar via TKO. It looks possible that Overeem and Dos Santos could fight next, provided that Overeem is able to obtain his license in December.
