If they have not done it already today, Lyoto Machida and Ryan Bader should thank their fans.

UFC President Dana White released his first video blog for UFC on FOX 4 today and in it he announced he has revised his former decision that the winner of Saturday night’s main event between Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Brandon Vera would get the next light heavyweight title shot.

The fans cried foul and the UFC President responded:

“We had the press conference today where we announced that the main event, Shogun vs. Vera would get the title shot. You the fans have spoken and said you’re not crazy about this. The way I see it, I say it all the time, I work for you. I try to put on the fights that you want to see, and if you don’t think that’s fair enough, then I tell you what, the co-main event between Lyoto Machida and Bader, and the main event between Shogun and Vera, the fighter that wins the most impressively Saturday night out of the co-main and main event will get the title shot against Jonny “Bones” Jones. You spoke, I answered.”

There is only one problem with his revised statement.

Unless something has changed that has not been announced, UFC light heavyweight champion Jonny “Bones” Jones still has to get through Dan Henderson on Sept. 1 at UFC 151.

There are no guarantees in this sport, that is for sure. Let’s just assume White meant to say “the fighter that wins most impressively Saturday night out of the co-main and main event will get the title shot against” the winner of Jonny “Bones” Jones and Dan Henderson.
