A new bout has been added to the UFC 153 card as Brazilian Vitor Belfort (21-9) faces Alan Belcher (18-6) in a middleweight battle. The event is set to take place at the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro on Oct. 13.

Belcher had been campaigning for the matchup and Belfort agreed to the fight on Tuesday via his Twitter page. UFC officials have since made the bout official.

UFC 153 will feature a headline bout between Jose Aldo and Erik Koch who will battle for the featherweight title. The event will air LIVE on PPV with the prelims expected to air on FX.

Vitor Belfort is currently riding a two fight winning streak, most recently defeating Anthony Johnson via first round submission at UFC 142 in January. Prior to that he scored a first round TKO over Yoshihiro Akiyama at UFC 133 last August. Those two victories were a solid way to rebound from his devastating loss against middleweight champ Anderson Silva in February 2011. Belfort is steadily making his way back into title contention, another big win against Belcher will definitely take him one step closer to a title shot.

Alan Belcher is currently riding a four fight winning streak, most recently defeating Rousimar Palhares via TKO at UFC on Fox 3 in May. Prior to that he defeated Patrick Cote and Jason MacDonald via submission, and scored a TKO victory over Wilson Gouveia at UFC 107 in December 2009. Belcher feels he is ready for a title shot, a big win over Vitor will definitely put him in title contention.
