CALGARY – “UFC 149: Faber vs. Barao” takes place this evening at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and is headlined by former WEC featherweight champion Urijah Faber taking on Team Nova Uniao’s Renan Barao in a fight for the UFC interim bantamweight title.

In the co-main event, former Bellator middleweight champion Hector Lombard makes his highly anticipated UFC debut against the heavy-handed Tim “The Barbarian” Boetsch in a bout with middleweight title implications.

The first two preliminary card fights will stream live on Facebook (www.facebook.com/ufc) starting at 7 p.m. ET (4 p.m. PT). The remaining four prelim bouts will air live on FX starting at 8 p.m. ET (5 p.m. PT). And then the main card will broadcast live on Pay-Per-View at the normal time of 10 p.m. ET (7 p.m. PT).

UFC 149 play-by-play:

Antonio Carvalho vs. Daniel Pineda

Round 1 – Carvalho checks a leg kick. One two from Pineda. Clinch and a knee from Pineda. Carvalho lands a head kick catching Pineda coming in. Right from Carvalho. Nice left hook and a right hand from Carvalho and Pineda’s legs turn to rubber. He eats one more right hand after dropping to a knee and trying to get up. And this fight is over. Carvalho wins by KO. … Now Pineda is out on his feet, standing up with his head hunched over. They need to sit Pineda down. Great showing from Carvalho.

Bryan Caraway vs. Mitch Gagnon

Round 1 – Caraway with a right hand then a left hook. Gagnon shoots. Ends up on top of Craway inside his guard. Gagnon lands some nice punches. Caraway throws up for an armbar. Gagnon puts his shin on Caraway’s neck and escapes. He then unleashes some heavy heavy hands on Caraway, most notably a couple big left hands right on the chin. Caraway defends and gets back to his feet. Gagnon with a body lock takedown/slam. Caraway gets up, then gets thrown back down with another body lock slam and Caraway bounces right back up. They struggle in the clinch. Thai plum and knee from Gagnon. Caraway unloads some punches and gets the takedown. Caraway now on top in half guard. Caraway trying to pass guard, gets full mount with 10 seconds left in the round. Caraway finishes the round on top throwing elbows. Great fight. Caraway definitely took the worse beating though so I have to score it for Gagnon 10-9.

Round 2 – Left hook from Caraway. Left counter from Gagnon. Left hook from Gagnon and Caraway lands one back. Caraway shoots. Gagnon defends and lands an uppercut. They swing it out in the pocket. Lands a knee to the head of Caraway, followed by some heavy punches. Caraway with the takedown. Gagnon with a guillotine but Caraway escapes and takes his back, now landing punches to the side of Gagnon’s head. Two minutes to go and Caraway is completely in control right now. Caraway with full back mount, now full front mount as Gagnon rolls to his back. Caraway takes Gagnon’s back again as he tries a hip escape. Caraway goes for the choke and Gagnon escapes, spins and takes Caraway’s back. Caraway escapes to his feet. Left hook from Caraway, he eats a knee then shoots at the bell. Great fight. PMN scores the round 10-9 Caraway.

Round 3 – Caraway ducks a left hook, throws one himself, misses. throws another and Gagnon counters and scores. Caraway throws a right, shoots for a double and gets the takedown. He takes Gagnon’s back, both hooks in, triangle body lock and is softening Gagnon up. Gagnon is very muscular and has certainly slowed quite a bit. Caraway sinks in the rear-naked choke under the chin, it’s tight and Gagnon taps out. Caraway picks up his second win inside the UFC Octagon, his 17th career victory and his 15th win via submission! Caraway has only won one fight via decision.

Ryan Jimmo vs. Anthony Perosh

Round 1 – Rachelle Leah is in the house. OMG. Ryan Jimmo makes his UFC debut by throwing an overhand right and MMA Australian pioneer Anthony Perosh is out cold. They touch gloves and it was a one punch KO. Jimmo follows up with one more to the downed Perosh but he was already out. Jimmo ties the UFC record for fastest KO! Welcome to the UFC Ryan Jimmo! Jimmo does a very impressive robot celebration dance. This was Jimmo’s 17th straight win. He hasn’t lost since his pro debut in 2007. He is the former MFC light heavyweight champion (defended it for the second time in his last fight – Oct. 2011).

Roland Delorme vs. Francisco Rivera

Round 1 – Cisco checks a kick, lands an uppercut. Left jab from Cisco, he’s stalking Delorme, lands a nice combo, low kick. Nice fast right from Cisco. Two leg kicks from Delorme. High kick from Cisco. Counter right. Leg kick from Delorme. Left hand, right leg kick. Front kick. Cisco lands a couple uppercuts and slings Delorme to the ground. He’s up. Inside leg kick from Cisco. Body shot. Man his hands look great. Front kick to the face from Cisco. Left jab, nice left right combo. Jav, right hand. Inside leg kick from Delorme. Huge right leg kick, another from Cisco. Cisco caught the leg and fires back with a leg kick. Knee from Delorme, then a right hand. Cisco lands a right to the back of the head as he steps aside and Delorme goes by him. Cisco catches him with a left hook coming in and Delorme is out cold. Beautiful slip of Delorme’s right hand and countered with a left hook and that’s all she wrote. Absolutely beautiful performance by Cisco!

Clinch, knee from Riddle, he pushes Clements to the cage, then backs out. Leg kick from Clements. Right from Clements. Riddle with a knee to the body after ducking a big right. Clements backs out, misses a right. Nice left then right hook from Riddle. Nice right from Riddle. Clements catches a leg kick, counters. Riddle gets the takedown. Elbow from Riddle, several more shaving Clements face. Clements gets to his feet, Riddle drops down for a single, Clements sprawls, Riddle takes his back, and Clements ends up on his back. Riddle stands up and lets Clements up. Clements lands a couple big shots. Riddle shoots for a single before the bell. PMN scores it 10-9 for Riddle. At one point Riddle landed a nice body kick and Rosenthal thought he landed a low blow and stopped the action momentarily.

Round 2 – Riddle with a leg kick. Clements lands a nice couple punches and Riddle shoots and gets Clements down, takes his back, locks on a triangle body lock and is softening him up with right hands. Riddle keeps him here for quite a while. Clements with a blind elbow that scores. More elbows from Clements. Clements gets to his knees, now feet as Riddle hangs on him. Clements gets free, lands a hard body kick. Spinning head kick just misses from Clements. Riddle shoots stuffed, he ends up on his back and Clements unloads from the top. PMN scores the round 10-9 Riddle.

Round 3 – Right hand from Clements, body kick. Clinch up briefly. Separate to the center. Spinning back kick to the body from Clements scores. Riddle grabs a leg and puts Clements on his back. Clements makes his way to the feet. Left hand from Riddle. He locks on a standing arm triangle while standing, drags Clements to the ground with a trip, still holding the choke and Clements taps out.

Body kick from Ebersole. Left from Ebersole, body kick. Knee kick from Ebersole, eats a knee from Head. Ebersole fakes a shot. Head lands a couple shots as he backs Ebersole up to the cage. Body kick from Ebersole. Right hook from Ebersole, right to the body, left to the face. Nice right counter from Ebersole. Ebersole shoots, Head stuffs it. Head jumps into a guillotine choke and Ebersole gives the thumbs up. He doesn’t believe in the guillotine and Head lets it go. Ebersole on top now. Head with butterfly, now half guard. Kongo grabs a body lock from behind. Right hand from Kongo to the head. Low blow from Jordan with and elbow to the groin and Kongo goes down. Time out is called. Here we go. High kick from Kongo coming out aggressive. Brief clinch. Jordan misses a side kick to the head. Leg kick from Kongo. Clinched against the cage. Kongo leaning on him. Jordan turns him around. Knee to the body. He drops levels for a double leg, now single. No dice. Big knee from Kongo at the bell. PMN scores the round 10-9 for Kongo.

Round 2 – Right from Kongo, a knee. Clinched against the cage, Jordan turns him around. Knee from Kongo to the body, he turns Jordan to the cage, another knee, another. Jordan turns him around. Faber tries to catch a leg kick fro the takedown, no dice. More boos. One two from Barao, head kick, Faber catches it, tries to dump him. Big leg kick from Barao and Faber limps. Faber trying to use feints. Big left hook to the body, followed by a right from Barao. Faber gets shrugged off twice attempting a takedown. Jab from Faber. More boos from the crowd as the bell sounds. PMN scores the round 10-9 Barao. His corner tells him he already won four rounds.

Round 5 – The one thing they didn’t tell Faber is that he needs to finish him. And he does need to. Test of strength holding hands again. Front kick from Faber does nothing. Faber tries to catch the leg for a takedown. Barao misses a head kick. Right to the body from Faber but there’s nothing on his strikes. He catches the foot of Barao, Barao pulls out. Jab from Faber. Leg kick from Faber and Barao counters with a one two. Big left from Barao. They keep doing the test of strength. Left from Faber. Test of strength again and the crowd boos. Huge leg kick from Barao and the crowd roars. They want a finish. Left from Barao. They deserve a finish. Left from Barao. Right from Barao. They shake hands and Barao knows he won. The whole arena is chanting “bullsh*t!” Not the way you want to end a PPV card my friends.

Barao is ecstatic at winning the interim title. The crowd boos. When four of the five main card bouts go to decision, it makes for a long hard night my friends… But that’s why it’s not pro wrestling.  If Dana shows up at the post-fight presser I will be very surprised. Faber did say he may have broken a rib in round two. The crowd does cheer for Faber. Some of the boos may just have been because there were a lot of Faber fans there.
