TAMPMA, Fla. — Bellator’s Summer Series continues with Bellator 72 this evening at the USF Sun Dome in Tampa, Fla. Karl Amoussou and Bryan Baker square off in the Welterweight tournament final, and Paul Daley makes his Bellator debut against Rudy Bears. Also taking place are both Summer Series Light Heavyweight tournament semifinal fights and a highly anticipated welterweight rematch between Marius Zaromskis and Waachiim Spiritwolf.

Bellator 72 play-by-play

Ben Saunders vs. Brian Warren

Round 1 – Leg kick from Warren, body kick Sanders, followed by a knee that stuns Warren. Saunders grabs a collar tie (Thai plum) and delivers several knees to the head, one more big one to the head and Warren goes down, he turtles up and he’s bleeding, and Saunders finishes him off with punches. This fight is over.

Jason Carapelluci vs. Paul Barrow

Round 1 – Carapelluci shoots, scramble, takes Barrow’s back with one hook in, softening him up as Barrow goes to his knees, Barrow gets up briefly but Carapelluci all over Barrow. Carapelluci drops levels and gets the double leg takedown, now on top in a partial mount. Carapelluci giving shots to the body, now an elbow. Barrow achieves half guard and now full guard. Carapelluci staying fairly busy with body shots and now a hammerfist. Elbow from Carapelluci. Barrow gives up his back with 30 seconds to go in the round. Carapelluci looking for the choke but Barrow survives as he is now back on his back and still underneath Carapelluci. PMN scores the round 10-9 Carapelluci.

Round 2 – Barrow has a cut on his right eyelid. Barrow with a significant height advantage. Brief clinch, Carapelluci shoots, sprawl by Barrow. Carapelluci goes for a single, now a double, tries to take Barrow’s back and pulls him to the ground. Barrow gets up but Carapelluci stays on him and gives a big slam. Barrow turtles up as Carapelluci rides his back. Carapelluci appears to be bleeding from his scalp pretty heavily. Couple of knees from Carapelluci. Barrow goes for a single and eats a big knee. Barrow gets a takedown but Carapelluci is up immediately, collar tie and a knee, goes for a guillotine. Barrow is out, lands a knee. Takes one in return, eats a big punch, Carapelluci drops levels looking for the shot. Elbow from Barrow, and a couple more. Barrow gets back to his feet and Carapelluci throws some punches. Couple of leg kicks from Barrow. Knee from Carapelluci, he looks low and time is up. PMN scores the round 10-9 for Carapelluci.

Round 3 –  Right hand from Carapelluci, he shoots low. Stuffed. Barrow takes his back, sinks in the standing choke, they fall back and this fight is over. Carapelluci had a brief mental lapse and paid for it. Carapelluci tried for a trip takedown, slipped, ended up on bottom and Barrow took his back. Beautiful comeback victory for Barrow.

Round 1 – Spirit wolf looks SUPER AMPED, eyes bugging out super amped. Zaromskis looks a picture of calm, cool, collected. Zaromskis runs to the center. Leg kick from Wolf. Overhand right attempt from Wolf. He runs forward, unable to connect. Left jab from Wolf. Marius stalking. Left right. Leg kick from Wolf. Marius trying to get inside. Leg kick Wolf. Left counter hook from Wolf. Leg kick from Wolf. Leg kick Wolf. Wolf with his hands down. Leg kick again. Marius in more of a traditional boxing stance with his hands. Marius bleeding in the corner of his right eye. They both have thrown some heat but nothing has landed solid. Left straight from Marius scores. Marius stalking. Leg kick from Wolf. Tim Carpenter vs. Travis Wiuff

Round 1 – Still can’t believe Wiuff makes 205. Nice right from Wiuff. Lands another couple shots and Carpenter looks rocked. Wiuff pushes him to the cage and Carpenter grabs Wiuff’s neck in a standing guillotine position with one arm. They exchange punches to the body and Carpenter lands a low blow with a knee, then gives another low blow with a knee and Wiuff goes down. He’s given five minutes to recover. Wiuff catches a leg kick and puts Carpenter on his back. Carpenter is a BJJ black belt and is very comfortable here, pulls a high closed guard. Carpenter punching from the bottom. Wiuff with body shots and short hammerfists. Carpenter not throwing up anything yet.  Now he’s  shrimping a bit. Body shots from Wiuff. They said Wiuff cut down to 205 from the heavyweight limit of 265. That’s amazing. Right hand from Wiuff. Carpenter throws up an armbar attempt but couldn’t find it. Round 2 – Immediate takedown from Wiuff. Body, body, head shots from Wiuff just using a very workman-like game here. Carpenter trying to make something happen. Carpenter looks for an armbar, eats a big right, still underneath Wiuff and eating shot after shot after shot to the body and head. Carpenter hands onto Wiuff long enough to get stood up. Nice jab from Wiuff. Knee from Carpenter to the body. Wiuff pushes him to the cage. Foot stomp from Wiuff, again. Wiuff picks him up walks all the way across the cage and slams him against the base of the fence. Wiuff goes to work with ground and pound but the ref stands them up quickly. Left to the body from Carpenter, clinch, Wiuff pushes him to the cage. They trade body shots. Carpenter grabs a standing guillotine, tries to jump into it and he slips off to the ground. Big right from Wiuff. PMN scores the round 10-9 for Wiuff.

Round 3 – Clinch and a nice right uppercut from Wiuff snaps Carpenter’s head back. Wiuff puts him on his back and goes to work. Carpenter with a full closed guard, now open. Wiuff going body body head, hammerfists. Carpenter looking for an arm. No dice. Wiuff with several left hands to the side of the head. Carpenter looks for the arm again, and again he eats punch after punch in this grind game. Carpenter looks for the arm again, and again can not get it. Wiuff finishes out the round on top working.

Emanuel Newton vs. Attila Vegh

Round 1 – Leg kick from Newton. Misses next one. Again with a leg kick. Leg kick from Newton. Side kick from Newton. Clinch, knee from Vegh, but he eats a right hand and a body kick from Newton. Up against the cage. Vegh with a knee to the body on the break. Leg kick from Newton, right hand, body kick, right hand. Leg kick from Newton. Leg kick from Newton, tries to set up a spinning kick. Right hand from Vegh. Counter punch from Newton. Newton clinches. Knee from Vegh. Newton gets a body lock takedown but Vegh is right back to his feet. Couple of counter rights from Vegh, lands another nice one right on the chin. Leg kick from Newton. Close round. PMN scores the round 10-9 for Newton.

Round 2 – Uppercut, knee from Vegh. Low kick from Newton. Body kick from Newton. Vegh backs him to the cage, lands an overhand right. Newton misses the counter kick. Round 3 – Newton is the aggressor, lands some punches. He gets a body lock takedown but Vegh gets up and lands some nice punches. But lets Newton off the hook. It was very close though. Each round was pretty close and I could see it go either way.

Rudy Bears vs. Paul Daley

Round 1 – Exchange of low kicks. Daley misses a high kick. Leg kick Bears. Again. Left jab from Daley. Right hand from Daley. Left jab to body. Right kick to body from Daley. Thai plum, knee to body from Daley. Bears pushes him to the cage as he changes levels. Knee from Bears to the body. Thai plum and knee from Daley to the face, another one, then a big left hook and Bears goes down. Daley finishes him off with big shots to the side of the face and Bears is done.

Karl Amoussou vs. Bryan Baker

Round 1 – Front kick from Baker knocks Amoussou down. Leg kick from Amoussou, again. Amoussou takes a poke in the eye and a brief break is called. Side kick attempt from Baker. Amoussou kicks his back leg, then goes for a flying heel hook and this fight is over.  Baker taps out.
