‘Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Kennedy’ LIVE results and play-by-play

PORTLAND, Ore. — “Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Kennedy” takes place this evening at the Rose Garden in Portland, Ore., and is headlined with two title fights. In the night’s headliner, Strikeforce middleweight champion Luke Rockhold, representing American Kickboxing Academy, puts his title on the line against Tim Kennedy, of Jackson’s MMA.

In the night’s co-main event, the vacant Strikeforce welterweight title is on the line as undefeated Tyron Woodley puts his undefeated record up against UFC veteran Nate Marquardt in what will be “The Great’s” first fight outside the UFC since he defended his Pancrase title in 2005 in Japan.

“Strikeforce: Rockhold vs. Kennedy” will broadcast this evening LIVE on Showtime starting at 10 p.m. ET / PT. Prior to the main card, fans can watch the preliminary card on Showtime Extreme starting at 8 p.m. ET / PT. Ryan Couture vs. Joe Duarte

Underhooks from Hirota pushes Healy to the cage. Healy turns him around but Hirota escapes to the center and catches Healy with a left hook. Healy shoots, scramble, Healy has a single but Hirota escapes to the feet, clinch against the cage. Hirota ducks an elbow. Healy with a leg kick. Body, head shot from Hirota. Healy shoots, stuffed. He shoots, gets the takedown  just barely as Hirota uses the cage to get right up. Healy gets him back down and on his back. Robbie Lawler vs. Lorenz Larkin

Round 1 –  Touch gloves. Who will swing first? Feints from Lawler, front kick scores for Lawler. High kick from Larkin blocked. Leg kick from Lawler, front kick misses. He dodges a leg kick. Lawler lands a right hook that hurts Larkin. Lawler attacks and Larkin with the collar tie, knee and elbow from Larkin. Larkin was hurt on that right hook. Larkin with a trip takedown, goes for the ground and pound, lands a left, right and some ground and pound. Back to the feet, Larkin lands a flying knee. Uppercut from Larkin to the body sounds loud. Clinched against the cage. Larkin with a couple uppercuts and knees, another uppercut. Larkin holding a Thai clinch and landing some nice stuff. Knee from Lawler. Knee from Larkin. Lorenz gets Mauro Ranallo to kneel with him during the interview and says he’s not asking for a title shot but is asking that the Strikeforce fighters be awarded performance bonuses.

Roger Gracie vs. Keith Jardine

Round 1 – Left hook from Roger. Left jab from Roger. Jardine clinches up and Roger puts him on his back, Roger on top in half guard. Jardine holding tight, trying to sweep. Short elbow from Gracie. Front headlock from Gracie as Jardine trying to use the cage, he gets up. Knee from Gracie in the clinch. Roger scoops his leg to put Jardine back to the ground. Jardine eats several right hands, another one. Full mount by Gracie. He flattens Jardine out. One minute to go. Jardine holding tight. Elbows from Gracie. Roger trying to set up something, lands a couple more elbows and Jardine is bleeding. PMN scores the round 10-9 for Gracie. Domination.

Round 2 – Jardine comes forward swinging and gets put on his back. Gracie on top in half guard, lands an elbow and opens Jardine’s cut up again. Gracie takes Jardine’s back, gets one hook in and looking for the choke as Jardine turtles up. Jardine is losing a lot of blood. Gracie with both hooks in, now a body triangle and Jardine is in trouble. Roger rolls him over. Jardine has never been submitted, but if anyone can do it, Roger can. Jardine’s face is a bloody mess. Gracie looking for the choke. One minute left in the round. Roger gets full mount, goes for the arm triangle, lets it go, still in mount. More elbows from Gracie. Complete domination. Round 1 – Will this be Tyron’s toughest test to date? This is Nate’s first fight outside UFC since 2005. Right hand, body kick from Woodley. Leg kick from Nate goes high to the groin. Brief halt. Switches stances. Leg kick from Woodley, very fast. Nate misses a leg kick. Woodley catches Nate with a right coming in and hurts Nate. He chases him down. Nate turtles, Tyron gives him some knees to the body. Nate stands up. Tyron tries to drop levels, Nate uses underhooks to stop it, they trade knees. Woodley backs out. He drops Woodley with a right and Woodley gets up. Marquardt locks on a guillotine. Woodley escapes, scores with punches, ties up against the cage. Elbow from Nate. Body shot from Woodley, knee from Woodley. Nate attacks, big right to the body, Thai plum, they trade knees. Woodley is bleeding. Big left elbow from Nate. Nice knee from Woodley to the face. Nate stalking. He’s running, gets caught with a right. He ties Nate up. Nate turns him to the cage. Nate backs him up with punches. PMN should take it 10-9.

Round 2 – Nate stalking. They trade leg kicks. Big leg kick from Nate. Woodley looks timid. Spinning backfist that lands on the shoulder. Then lands a right. Big leg kick from Nate, again. Nice straight right from Nate. Clinch, Nate backs out and now moves forward stalking again. Big leg kick from Nate. Woodley looking timid. Big leg kick from Nate. Woodleys female family member can be heard yelling the whole fight. Leg kick from Nate. Big leg kick again from Nate. Nice spinning back kick from Nate knocks Woodley back against the cage. Straight left from Woodley, straight right from Nate, two more and he puts Woodley on his back. Nate inside full guard. Woodley sits up and gets to his feet. High kick from Nate. Right from Woodley. Nate chases him down with punches. PMN scores the round 10-9 for Nate The Great.

Round 3 – Two jabs and a right, again from Woodley. He drops Nate with a right and Woodley goes for the kill trying to pound Nate out. Nate gets full closed guard. Nate grabs a leg. Woodley flattens him on his back. Nate with closed guard, holding on now. Stupid ref calls for action. He just stood them up. What a moron. The crowd boos. Nate stalking. Woodley misses with two shots. Nate swings big and Woodley ducks. Two minutes left in the round. Big leg kick from Nate. Left jab, right to the body, clinch and two rights from Nate. Light leg kick from Woodley. Woodley sticks out his chin and Nate gives him two right hands. Clinch, knee from Nate and a huge elbow. Another elbow, then a right before the bell. Close round but Woodley probably took that round 10-9.

Round 4 – Right to the body from Nate. Right to the head from Nate. Leg kick. Counter right from Nate, front kick, leg kick. Nate stalking. Leg kick. Big right from Nate on the jaw, again he catches him with a right. Nate ties him up. Woodley looked hurt. Two big elbows and a big uppercut and Tyron Woodley is out cold my friends…. holy mother of God, Nate Marquardt is back and back in style folks!  Nate Marquardt is the new Strikeforce welterweight champion! (Woodley’s female family member is no longer screaming).  Replay shows three elbows and two big uppercuts put Woodley down. Wow! KO and Fight of the Night. Nate does a round off backflip in celebration.

Luke Rockhold vs. Tim Kennedy

Round 1 – Let’s get it on. Luke stalking. So much taller. High kick from Luke. Right hand from Luke scores. Clinch against the cage. Tim’s back to the cage. They trade knees. Underhooks from Luke and a big knee on the exit. Tim closes the distance but Luke turns him to the cage. Nice knee from Luke. Body shots from Luke. Underhooks from Luke, he backs out. Stalking. Nice right hands from Luke, Tim retreats. Tim picks him up for a big slam. Tim on top in half guard. Rockhold tying up his leg. Luke looking for a kimura. Luke gets the arm out and but Tim uses it to get to side control. Luke to his feet. Clinched. Luke turns him to the cage. Luke backs off with some punches and a high kick that misses. PMN scores the round 10-9 for Rockhold.

Round 2 – Luke stalks. Head kick. tim goes for the takedown and Luke takes his back, one hook in. Looking for the choke. Luke softens him up with punches. Tim with a back elbow. Tim gets to his feet. They touch gloves and square up. Front kick right hand from Luke. Left right from Luke. Big right upstairs, left to the body. Tim tries to shoot, stuffed. Left liver kick from Luke.
