UFC middleweight Michael Bisping

The UFC has officially announced the first ever UFC Flyweight championship bout between Joseph Benavidez (16-2) and Demetrious Johnson for UFC 152. That bout will serve as the main event with the co-main event consisting of a huge middleweight showdown between highly ranked Michael Bisping (22-4) and Brian Stann.

UFC 152 is set to take place in Toronto at the Air Canada Centre on September 22nd.

Benavidez and Johnson were part of a four man tournament to determine the first ever UFC Flyweight champion. Benavidez ousted Yasuhiro Urushatani and Johnson defeated Ian McCall to form the title fight. Benavidez has won four consecutive fights since losing to Dominick Cruz prior to dropping down to the flyweight division. Both of his losses are courtesy of Cruz.

Johnson fought McCall twice with the first bout ending in a majority draw. However, in the second bout Johnson was able to outwork McCall for a unanimous decision win to grab his spot in the championship bout. Johnson is (5-1-1) in his last 7 bouts with the lone loss also coming courtesy of Dominick Cruz.

Michael Bisping is coming off a unanimous decision loss against former number one contender Chael Sonnen at the UFC on FOX 2 event earlier this year. Bisping was originally scheduled to face Tim Boetsch but had to pull out of the bout with an injury. He had won four consecutive bouts prior to the loss against Sonnen.

Brian Stann (12-4) is coming off a TKO win over Alessio Sakara at the UFC on FUEL TV 2 event in April. Stann is (4-1) since dropping down to the middleweight division with his lone loss also coming against Chael Sonnen. All of Stann’s wins as a middleweight have come via TKO or submission.
