Strikeforce women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey has been selected to appear on the cover of ESPN magazine. She is featured alongside some of the world’s best athletes in the 2012 ESPN Body Issue.
In what could be considered one of her most revealing photo shoots ever Rousey posed “artistically nude” for the pictures which will feature as one of six special edition covers.
The other athletes selected to be part of the Body Issue covers are New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski, the Toronto Blue Jay’s Jose Bautista, New York Knicks center Tyson Chandler, tennis player Daniela Hantuchova, and WNBA player Candace Parker.
Ronda recently became the Strikeforce 135 pound champion after defeating Miesha Tate with her trademark armbar submission earlier this year. The Olympic judo bronze medalist is now scheduled to make her first title defense against Sarah Kaufman in August.
Here is what ESPN Magazine Deputy Editor Neely Lohmann had to say about the special edition Body Issue:
“Each athlete has different reasons for wanting to be in the issue – different reservations, different personal feelings about doing it. The whole process – from the initial ask, to all the conversations with them about what they want out of the experience, to finally being with them on the set when they see the images on the monitor and their eyes light up – it’s a very personal journey for the athletes that’s so rewarding to be a part of.”
