It is being reported that Strikeforce 135 pound women’s champion Ronda Rousey (5-0) will make her first title defense against Sarah Kaufman (15-1) in August.

The event will air on Showtime although an exact date and location is yet to be announced.

Rousey is widely considered the new face of MMA, taking the crown from Gina Carano. The former Olympic bronze medalist is undefeated at 5–0 and has ended all her fights by armbar in round one.

Including amateur MMA fights, she has eight straight armbar victories inside the first round. Rousey took the Strikeforce 135 pound title from Miesha Tate on March 3rd. In the lead up to the fight both Rousey and Tate shared heated trash talk aimed at each other, something number one contender Sara Kaufman was critical about.

Kaufman earned her number one contender status at the same event as Rousey’s title win by defeating Alexis Davis by decision. Kaufman is a former 135 pound champion, winning the belt against Takayo Hashi at Strikeforce Challengers 6 in 2010.

UFC President Dana White has been very supportive of Ronda Rousey, calling her a “rockstar” on several occasions. Rousey has made several UFC appearances including being the first woman to be a guest coach on The Ultimate Fighter.
