KANSAS CITY, Kan. — Invicta Fighting Championships kicks off their inaugural event, Invicta FC 1, this evening at Memorial Hall in Kansas City. The all-female professional mixed martial arts card starts at 8 p.m. ET (5 p.m. PT) and will stream live and free online at InvictaFC.com.

Invicta FC 1 is headlined with a featherweight rematch between former Strikeforce bantamweight champ Marloes Coenen (19-5) taking on France’s Romy Ruyssen (5-1). The two fought the first time back in 2008 with Coenen winning via second round submission. Coenen remains Ruyssen’s only loss to date.

Among the night’s preliminary card action, 2008 Olympic wrestling bronze medalist Randi Miller (0-0) of Denver, Colo. will make her highly-anticipated MMA debut against Mollie Estes (1-0) of Lake Lotawana, Mo.

Meghan Wright vs. Cassie Rodish

Round 1 – Wright tries to touch gloves but Rodish not having it. They clinch up right away and Rodish lands a knee, locks on a modified guillotine as they go to the ground and Wright taps out. Quick first fight.

Sofia Bagherdai vs. Ashley Cummins

Round 1 – No touch of gloves. Leg kick from Bagherdai and Cummins shoots, picks her up for a lsam, lands in a guillotine choke position by Bagherdai. Cummins on top in half guard, landing shots to the body. Cummins postures up, stacking Bagherdai. Bagherdai gets to her feet and Cummins goes for a single. Bagherdai locks on a guillotine for a second, lets it go and unloads several punches before backing up. Spinning backfist from Bagherdai misses. They exchange knees. Cummins pushes her opponent to the cage, delivering knees to the body and thighs. Cummins looks for another takedown. Bagherdai backs out, lands a leg kick and a right hand. Cummins ties her up, lands a knee, pushing Bagherdai to the cage. Cummins throws her to the ground, landing several punches in the process. Bagherdai throws up for an armbar attempt but Cummins pulls out and kicks at Bagherdai before the bell. PMN scores the round 10-9 Cummins.

Round 2 – Leg kick from Cummins. Spinning backfist scores for Bagherdai, nothing on it. Jab, leg kick from Cummins. Jab. Overhand right from Bagherdai, leg kick. They exchange a combo, Cummins lands a right. Cummins lands a counter combo, shoots, presses Bagherdai to the cage. Cummins gets Bagherdai down, takes top position in half guard.  Cummins with some ground and pound, then she stands up. Bagherdai gets up. Cummins with a one two, shoots for the single. Elbows from Bagherdai but gets put on her back. Cummins inside full guard landing ground and pound. PMN scores the round 10-9 for Cummins.

Round 3 – Touch gloves finally. Leg kick from Bagherdai. Nice jab from Cummins, leg kick. Leg kick inside from Bagherdai. Leg kick from Cummins. Overhand right from Bagherdai. Leg kick from Cummins. Cummins shoots, presses Bagherdai to the cage, knee to the thighs, grabs a single and eventually puts Bagherdai on her back. Cummins backs off and lets her up. Spinning backfist from Bagherdai is blocked. Cummins’ hands look pretty good; she has nice movement. One two, leg kick from Cummins. Nice right from Cummins. PMN scores the round 10-9 for Cummins and the fight 30-27 for Cummins.

Mollie Estes vs. Randi Miller

Round 1 – Miller comes out fast, ties up Estes, pushes her to the cage. Estes with a couple knees. Right hand from Miller. Again. Knee from Estes. Miller with a couple right hands. Knees from Estes as she turns Miller to the cage. Estes grabs a collar tie, knees to the face of Miller and she looks rocked a bit. Maybe not. She turns Estes to the cage and it’s a clinch war from these strong ladies. Miller was an Olympic wrestler keep in mind. But Estes is doing a great job. Couple of right hands from Miller. Two knees from Estes to the body as Miller presses her to the cage. Knee from Estes to the face and body, another one to the body. Miller with a couple knees. More knees from Estes, another one. Estes has a cut over her left eye. They are still fighting in the clinch. Estes backs out momentarily. Miller throws a couple punches as she clinches up again. Estes’ left eye looks a bit busted up. PMN scored the round 10-9 for Estes.

Round 2 – Miller rushes out for the clinch. Estes backs out, knee to the body, to the face. Miller presses her to the cage. Another knee from Estes, again. Miller looking for the takedown but Estes escapes, lands an elbow, two more knees as Miller drops levels for a single. Estes jumps on her looking for an armbar. Miller stacking Estes free of the armbar. Miller landing some big right hands, now in half guard lands several lefts and rights as Estes gets to her knees. Miller looks for a choke as Estes gets to her feet. Miller throws a couple big bombs, goes for the double leg but Estes defends it. Estes lands a couple big knees putting Miller against the cage. Elbow from Estes but Miller gets the takedown and full mount. She drops some bombs on Estes, regains the mount as Estes gives up her back at the bell. PMN scores the round 10-9 for Miller.

Round 3 – Leg kick from Estes as Miller meets her in the center. Estes trying to avoid the clinch. Miller pushes her to the cage, landing a few punches but Estes gets free of the clinch and backs out around the cage. Miller gets the clinch again backing Estes to the cage. Knee from Estes as Miller drops levels for a single and puts Estes on her bac. Miller in half guard with two minutes left in the fight. Big left punches then several right hammerfists to the face force the referee to step in and stop the fight in Randi Miller’s pro debut.

Michele Gutierrez vs. Sarah Maloy

Round 1 – Maloy backing gutierrez up, throws a big right. Overhand right misses. Lands a leg kick. Big leg kick and front kick from Maloy scores. Head kick from Maloy as Gutierrez continues to move around the cage, not offering much offense thus far. Leg kick from Maloy. Front kick from Gutierrez knocks Maloy to the ground briefly. Leg kick Maloy. High kick from Maloy blocked. Front kick to the face. Front kick from Gutierrez scores. PMN scores the round for Maloy 10-9.

Round 2 – Leg kick from Maloy. Gutierrez lands a punch combo counter. Push kick from Gutierrez. Leg kick from Maloy. Front kick from Maloy. Maloy with a front kick and a leg kick. She chases Gutierrez, lands a right and Gutierrez lands a counter right and both girls land on the chin and get dropped. Gutierrez takes the advantage though and lands some ground and pound  before they are back to the feet. Gutierrez ends up on top of Maloy but lets her up. PMN scores the round 10-9 Gutierrez.

Round 3 – Maloy hunting, lands a right and Gutierrez fires back as she keeps up the lateral movement fighting mostly defensively. They both swing big and miss. Leg kick from Maloy. Maloy looks at a single but Gutierrez dodges it. Body kick from Maloy. Leg kick from Gutierrez. Leg kick Maloy. Neither girl lets it go in that round. I score it a draw because of this. PMN scores the round 10-9 for Maloy and the round 29-28 for Maloy.

Amy Davis vs. Nicdali Rivera-Calanoc

Round 1 – Nicdali comes out swinging, pushes Davis against the cage looking for a takedown. She gets the single leg takedown. Davis throws up a triangle. Calanoc struggles to escape but Davis readjusts and lands some hammerfists. Davis readjusts and this choke is pretty tight but Nicdali is still moving trying to create space and she escapes, stands up, throws a one two, ties Davis up against the cage. Nicdali drops levels, gets the takedown. Davis lands some hammerfists but Nicdali lands some nice right hands as she stacks Davis. Davis gets to her feet and Nicdali lands some nice punches as Davis also lands a couple in return. PMN scores the round 10-9 for Nicdali. (Miesha Tate is in Nicdali’s corner).

Round 2 – Body kick from Davis, again with the other leg. They tie up briefly. Nicdali swings big trying to get her distance. Davis with a front kick. They tie up, knee from Davis. Nicdali pushes her to the cage, they trade knees. Knees to the body from Davis. Front kick to the body from Davis. Nicdali gets in bad position as she is upside down with her head wedged between Davis’ legs. Davis drops some hammerfists on Nicdali before getting her in a crucifix. Hammerfists to her back and face. She has her neck and arm in a scissors lock and Davis puts Nicdali’s free arm in a kimura and she taps out.

Sarah Schneider vs. Sally Krumdiack

Round 1 – Left from Krumdiack, they tie up. Knees from Krumdiack with Schneider’s back to the cage. Krumdiack with a couple knees and a couple body shots from Schneider. Knees to the thighs from Krumdiack and blood is drawn. They wrestle in the clinch. Looks like Krumdiack is the one bleeding from her nose possibly. Schneider pulls guard. She locks on  a triangle, rolls to mounted triangle and Krumdiack tries her best to escape. Schneider transitions to an armbar and Krumdiack taps out. Great showing by “White Tiger” Schneider!

Vanessa Mariscal vs. Sarah D’Alelio

Round 1 – Jab D’Alelio. Mariscal is flashing hers but not really landing it. Big takedown by D’Alelio. She goes to work with elbows from the top. D’Alelio transitions to the back of Mariscal and flattens her out. Mariscal scrambles to her feet but hits the mat again with D’Alelio still on her back. She’s got both hooks in and is looking to finish. D’Alelio drops a couple of big left hands to soften up Mariscal. Again she flattens Mariscal out. Big ground-and-pound from the top. D’Alelio is dominating the action on the ground. Mariscal is hanging in there, firing off some right hands behind her head, but she can’t get D’Alelio off of her back. More big punches from D’Alelio, then she goes for the choke. Good defense from Mariscal as she fights off the choke. D’Alelio is still in total control, landing some big shots from the back of Mariscal. Mariscal fires off some big elbows and catches D’Alelio square in the face. Wow! Mariscal is going to escape to see the second round. Round 1 goes to D’Alelio.

Round 2 – D’Alelio just misses with a winging right hand. Mariscal throws a flurry and scores early in the round. D’Alelio comes back and connects with a staggering right hand. Both fighters are throwing bombs now. Jab by both fighters. Mariscal unleashes a four-punch barrage. D’Alelio is game though, as she lands a right hand, then changes levels and takes the fight to the mat. D’Alelio looking to pass. She throws some elbows to the thighs, then transitions to the back of Mariscal again. Full mount, then right back to the back of Mariscal. D’Alelio dropping punishing shots from the top. Again she’s looking for the choke. She might do better do just drop those megaton bombs from the top. She does and the tap comes. Mariscal has had enough. Impressive showing from D’Alelio.

Leslie Smith vs. Kaitlin Young

Round 1 – Touch of gloves. Jabs from both. Nice leg kick from Young. Smith comes back with a flurry. To the body from Smith. High volume striking from Smith. Young counters nicely with a right hand. The fight hits the mat and Smith is on top. Young throws up her legs for an armbar but Smith recognizes the danger and pulls her arm out. She’s staying super tight on top now. Young is staying very busy on her back and is totally controlling the posture of Smith. Smith creates enough space to fire off a right hand. Young scrambles and gets to her feet. Nice knee on the break. Smith is backing up now. Overhand right from Young. Smith goes to the body, again. Wow. Cesar Gracie!! Clinch now. Big knees from both, but it’s Young that lands a crushing elbow on the way out. These ladies are going to work. Young counters the kick of Smith with a right hand. Young has settled into her striking game now. She’s mixing it up well. Smith looks good too, landing some nice counters. Smith with a flurry, punctuated by a left hook. Stiff jab from Smith. How long can they keep this pace up??? Jab Young. Smith still coming forward. Kicks from Smith. Huge kick to the body by Young. Big exchange in the pocket. Wow! Smith with a flurry at the bell. Round 1 goes to Smith on my card.

Round 2 – Smith comes forward and lands a jab. Leg kick Smith. Young lands a stinging jab. Young with a big right hand. Smith counters with a right of her own, then puts together a five-punch combination. Young goes back to her kicks, punishing the leg of Smith. To the clinch now, but not for long. Elbow from Young on her way out. Smith is still stalking, utilizing her jab nicely. Young’s jab is very effective as well. Both ladies are using it to set up some very nice striking. Smith still coming forward. Jab-overhand right from Smith. She stays really busy with her strikes. Very high-paced. Young fires off a right hand, and Smith retaliates to the body. Young feints her jab and scores up the middle with a razor-sharp uppercut. Smith goes low with a kick and follows up with a punch combo. Young back to the body with a kick, then peppers Smith with a straight right. Again. Smith goes back to her jab with 30 seconds to go. She’s still coming forward. Stinging kick from Young. Flying knee by Smith and a flurry follows by both. PMN gives round 2 to Smith.

Round 3 – Final round, and this one starts just like the others. Smith runs to the center of the cage firing, but it’s Young that gets the edge early. Huge kick by Young. Again. Smith still coming forward but eats a right hand. Smith shakes it off and lands a big kick, then a big flurry that forces Young to shoot for a takedown. Smith fights it off with her back on the cage. Smith goes to the body as Young looks for a single. After a scramble the fight hits the mat and Smith lands on top. Young looking for an arm again, but Smith pulls out and goes to work to the body. Young switches her hips and locks up an arm. Smith fight it off but then ends up in a triangle. Smith again is out and goes straight into an armbar of her own. She can’t finish it and now Young is on top. WHAT A FIGHT! Smith kicks off and gets up. Back to the feet now. Kicks by both now. Young with a stiff right hand. Smith comes back with a kick, and Young fires back, landing a kick to the body. Lead right hand snaps the head of Smith back. Smith just misses with an uppercut. One minute to go. Young again to the bruised leg of Smith. Smith continues to march forward. She puts together another kick-punch combo. Young blisters the leg of Smith again and she’s hurt but still coming forward. Unbelievable fight. 10 seconds to go and both fighters flurry to the end. Round 3 goes to Young, but PMN scores the fight overall for Leslie Smith 29-28.

Ashleigh Curry vs. Liz Carmouche

Round 1 – I’m excited for this one! Let’s go. Carmouche closes quickly looking for a kick. Spinning backfist, then straight to the takedown from Carmouche. She goes to work from the top with left hands to the body. Curry hanging on to the neck of Carmouche. Curry still hanging onto the guillotine for now. Carmouche pulls her head free and moves to full mount. Ground-and-pound assault now from the former Marine. Elbows now. Carmouche moves to a very high full mount and starts dropping big shots. The referee looks on and finally steps in to stop the onslaught. Total domination from Carmouche.

Lisa Ellis vs. Jessica Penne

Round 1 – Tentative start. Nice exchange now. Ellis with a nice jab. Penne comes back with one of her own. Another exchange inside. Overhand right from Penne. Kicks from both. Penne is coming forward. Nice kick by Ellis. She then locks up with Penne and puts her on the mat. Penne scrambles and gets to her feet, then gets a quick takedown of her own. Ellis is controlling the posture of Penne so far. Penne is staying patient, looking to pass when she feels some space open up. Short left hands from Penne. Ellis fires off a couple of short elbows from her back. Body-head from Penne. Penne content to stay in half guard and land from the top with short left hands. Ellis works back to guard. She closes her guard, then opens it up to throw up her legs looking for an armbar. Penne pulls out and Ellis uses the space to stand. Kicks again, Penne goes for the bodylock takedown but ends up on the bottom. Penne throws her legs over the top and secures an arm of Ellis. Crazy flexibility. End of round. PMN scores the first for Penne, 10-9.

Round 2 – The corner of Ellis worked on her eye that is pretty swollen between the rounds. It looks ok and she seems to still have her vision. Penne moving forward. Nice jab and right hand. Leg kick Penne. Ellis comes back with a stinging leg kick. Penne steps in range to throw and eats a counter-right hand from Ellis. Penne again looks to get the fight to the mat, and does. She has Ellis pressed against the cage and is going to work. Ellis is doing a good job at controlling the posture of Penne. Short right hands from Penne. Ellis retains guard but Penne is maintaining control from the top. Penne postures from some ground-and-pound but gives up too much space, giving Ellis a chance to get back to her feet. Ellis immediately goes for a takedown. She gets it but gives up a leg. Penne looking for the submission but Ellis is out of danger. Ellis on top now. Penne goes for the triangle but Ellis recognizes the danger and postures out. Penne switches to the omoplata. Nice scrambles on the floor by these two. Ellis still on top. Penne locks up the armbar now. Ellis picks her up and slams her on her head, freeing her arm. Penne reverses just before the bell. Close round. PMN scores the second for Ellis.

Round 3 – Jab Penne. Body kick Ellis. Ellis coming forward now with a one-two combo. Penne fires back with precise, straight combinations in comparison to the winging punches of Ellis. Penne with a lead right hand. Ellis scores with a knee. Penne counters and catches Ellis and the blood is flowing. Ellis locks up a bodylock and gets a big takedown. Ellis is bleeding like crazy and the mat is a mess! Big scramble on the mat but Ellis stays on top. Penne is crazy busy on her back. Penne goes to for the armbar, doesn’t get it, but uses it to sweep. Penne is now on top and in full mount. Blood is everywhere. High mount now from Penne. Ellis rolls and gives up her back. Penne pours on the right hands and the stoppage comes quickly. Ellis is a bloody mess. Wow what a fight!

Romy Ruyssen vs. Marloes Coenen

Round 1 – Intense staredown in the center of the cage. It’s time for the main event! Coenen comes forward to start. Ruyssen flashes her jab as Coenen stays outside of range feinting. Leg kick Coenen. Nice counter right hand from Ruyssen. Coenen again with the kick. Ruyssen counters again. She looks prepared for the kicks. Ruyssen triples up her jab backing Coenen up to the cage. To the clinch now. Ruyssen has double underhooks and is looking to get this fight to the mat. Ruyssen with a couple of knees. The referee steps in and stops the action. He takes a point for grabbing the cage. The action kicks off again with Ruyssen firing off a kick. Coenen comes forward and Ruyssen tries to jump guard. Coenen lands a huge elbow that crumples Ruyssen to the mat. Grinding elbows from Coenen now. Coenen launches a series of elbows to the body as Ruyssen pushes onto the cage with her legs. After a stall, the referee stands them up. Leg kick Coenen. Again. Ruyssen kicks to the body, then tries to lock up with Coenen. Coenen turns and puts Ruyssen into the cage. End of round 1. PMN scores it for Coenen, 10-8.

Round 2 – Very nice counter right from Ruyssen as Coenen fires off a kick. Coenen comes back and launches a big right hand that snaps Ruyssen’s head back. Leg kick Coenen. Very nice left hand for Coenen connects, and she closes, putting Ruyssen on the cage again. Knees now from Coenen. More knees to the thighs. Coenen continues to score with knees. Ruyssen again tries to pull guard. Coenen keeps her feet and again scores with an elbow. Ruyssen drops and Coenen steps away. They reset and Ruyssen comes forward but again finds her back on the cage. Coenen is taking control of this fight in the second stanza. Knees to the thighs again. Coenen with another elbow in tight. Ruyssen turns Coenen into the cage, but Coenen quickly reverses and delivers more knees to the legs of Ruyssen. Another round for Coenen, 10-9.

Round 3 – Stinging kick to start from Coenen. Ruyssen comes back with a kick of her own. Right hand Coenen. Lots of switching stances from Ruyssen now. Spinning back fist and kick to the body from Ruyssen. She has Coenen in the clinch and on the cage but gets turned again, finding herself right where she was in the second round. Coenen goes right back to the knees again. She continues to pepper the legs of Ruyssen. Ruyssen cranks on the neck of Coenen just as she tries to jump guard. Coenen stays relaxed, then scores with another stiff elbow. Ruyssen works the body with right hands but still has her back on the cage. She’s running out of time. The referee steps in and restarts them in the center of the cage. Coenen coming forward with kicks, and again, Ruyssen is back on the cage. Coenen goes for a late takedown, and Ruyssen hits the mat at the bell. PMN scores the final round for Coenen, and the fight overall to her as well, 20-26.
