It seems that everyone in MMA is using Twitter as the choice medium to make themselves heard. We’ve seen beefs, match making and even apologies on Twitter from some of the biggest names in combat sports as of late. Now it seems that Phil Baroni and Murilo Rua are following suit. Yesterday, both Baroni and Rua showed interest in fighting each other through their correspondence on Twitter:

While it doesn’t look like there’s real beef between the two, it does seem that they’re both pretty much 100 percent and ready to go one on one in the cage. It also seems that they want to do this match in Asia with either ONE Fighting Championship or The Super Fight League. This comes as no surprise actually since Baroni’s last fight were with ONE FC last September and he also has ties with the SFL where he works as a color commentator.

However, should this fight happen, it would mean that Murilo Rua will have to come out of retirement. As you may know, Murilo Rua is a PRIDE veteran and is the older brother of Mauricio “Shogun” Rua. He has a 20-12-1 fight record and has fought at the highest level of competition in organizations such as PRIDE and EliteXC. In fact, Rua is a former EliteXC middleweight champion. Rua called it quits last year after losing to Tom Watson at BAMMA 6 in London.

It would be interesting to see what division this fight would be contested at, should it take place. It’ll most likely be at 185lbs because both Rua and Baroni have fought at that weight before. However, for Baroni, he’s open for any weight division as he replied Ken Pavia, who got involved with the conversation between Baroni and Rua, “I fight at (sic) money weight, if it makes money I make weight.” Keep an eye out on this space for more developments on this story.
