TUF alum Cody McKenzie

News emerged today that UFC newcomer Marcus LeVesseur (21-5) will be stepping in to replace an injured Aaron Riley (30-13-1) against Cody McKenzie (12-2) in a lightweight matchup at the UFC on FUEL TV 3 event.

Cody McKenzie announced the fight on his Twitter page which takes place on May 15th, at the Patriot Center in Fairfax, Virginia. The main card for this event will air on FUEL TV with preliminary fights being shown on Facebook.

McKenzie enters this fight coming off two loses, the first came against Yves Edwards at “UFC Fight For The Troops 2” held in January 2011 where Cody tapped out to a rear naked choke in the evenings “Fight Of The Night”. The most recent loss was against Vagner Rocha at “UFC Fight Night: Shields vs. Ellenberger” which took place in September 2011, and again Cody was submitted via rear-naked choke. This losing streak really puts pressure on McKenzie to come out with a victory in this next fight, as he was undefeated and had built up an impressive 12 fight winning streak prior to joining the UFC roster.

Newcomer Marcus LeVesseur who recently signed a four-fight deal with the UFC will no doubt look to make the lightweight division aware of his presence with a big victory over McKenzie. Marcus is currently riding a three fight winning streak with victories over Dane Sayers, Brian Geraghty, and most recently Taurean Boggues who he defeated via decision in August 2011. Former NCAA wrestling champ LeVesseur has been fighting on the national MMA circuit since 2003 and will bring a lot of experience into the octagon, it will definitely be interesting to see how he performs on the night.
