It has emerged today that heavyweight MMA veteran Fedor Emelianenko (33-4) will face former UFC fighter Pedro “The Rock” Rizzo (19-9) in an event that is set to take place at the Ice Palace in St. Petersburg, Russia, on June 21st. The announcement for the match-up was made by M-1 official Evgeni Kogan via his Twitter page, currently there are no other fight or event details available at this time.

Fedor Emelianenko is currently on a two fight winning streak with victories over American Top Team fighter Jeff Monson, and most recently Satoshi Ishii who he defeated via TKO in the first round at an event held in Saitama, Japan in December 2011.

Prior to these two victories Fedor had been on a rough three fight losing streak whilst in the Strikeforce promotion where he was defeated by Fabricio Werdum, Antonio Silva and Dan Henderson. Since those losses, Fedor has left Strikeforce and now seems to be getting back into winning ways, this will be his first fight in 2012.

The Brazilian Pedro Rizzo is another veteran who has been fighting for well over a decade, he was once part of the UFC and challenged for the heavyweight championship on three occasions unfortunately losing each time. Since his last fight in the UFC back in 2003, Rizzo has been fighting for MMA promotions all over the world. He’s currently on a three fight winning streak having defeated the likes of Jeff Monson, Gary Goodridge, and most recently Ken Shamrock who he faced 2 years ago.
