We reported a few days ago that former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson communicated that he wanted out of the UFC. The news was revealed on FUEL TV’s “UFC Tonight” that Jackson has one fight on his remaining contract with the UFC, and will face Mauricio “Shogun” Rua later this year which would be the end of his current contract.  From the UFC website:

As reported on Fuel TV’s UFC Tonight, UFC President Dana White has revealed that disgruntled former UFC light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson will face another former champ, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.

These two faced one another back in 2005 at the PRIDE middleweight grand prix opening round with Rua brutally knocking Jackson out via TKO in the very first round.

It will be interesting to see if indeed this will be Jackson’s final fight in the UFC. The odds of him becoming UFC lightweight champion again are relatively small as he seems to be on the downside of his career. He’s (2-3) in his last five fights. While still a popular fighter, he does not have the same aura with fans and fighters that he did a few years ago. Rua is coming off a fight of the year performance in a losing effort against Dan Henderson which took place at UFC 139. Rua is also (2-3) in his last five fights. The date and event for this fight has not been announced, but stay tuned to Pro MMA Now for further details as they develop.
