On Saturday, May 5, lightweights Nate Diaz (15-7) and Jim Miller (21-3) will clash in the UFC on Fox 3 headliner at the IZOD Center in East Rutherford, N.J. UFC President Dana White confirmed the news via Twitter late Tuesday:

“Our 3rd FOX fight May 5th at the IZOD Center in New Jersey will feature Nate Diaz vs Jim Miller!!! Nate = 3 sub and 5 FON Jim = 3 SON!!”

The announcement comes just four days away from Saturday’s UFC on Fox 2 event which will be the promotion’s first official fight card on Fox since the UFC’s new seven-year deal with television giant went into effect on Jan. 1.

White’s Tweet sums up why this fight gained top billing on the UFC’s biggest platform. Since winning The Ultimate Fighter 5 in 2007, Diaz has won “submission of the night” honors three times and “fight of the night” five times, while Miller has won three “submission of the night” awards himself.

Diaz, 26, is coming off one of the most memorable fights in UFC history, winning a three-round unanimous domination over Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone at UFC 141 on Dec. 30.

Miller is coming off a first round rear-naked choke submission win over Melvin Guillard at UFC on FX 1 in Nashville this past weekend. The  28-year-old New Jersey native and BJJ black belt is currently ranked among the top 10 lightweights in the world, with his only losses coming against Frankie Edgar, Gray Maynard and Benson Henderson.

In addition to Diaz vs. Miller, verbal agreements are in place for a 125-pound scrap between TUF 14 winner John Dodson and Darren Uyenoyama, both who are moving down from bantamweight.
