ProMMAnow.com (www.prommanow.com) reporter Anton Skoro caught up with rising Strikeforce light heavyweight prospect Gian Villante (9-3 MMA, 2-2 Strikeforce) following his first round TKO victory over Trevor Smith at the “Rockhold vs. Jardine” event on January 7 at the Hard Rock in Las Vegas.

Villante discussed getting the quick finish, just 1:09 into the first round and said he knows he can continue to finish fights like that if he gets in the right frame of mind. A lot of fighters talk about wanting to have three round wars but Villante said he would much rather have the quick finish.

Villante also discussed his football background and compared the explosiveness needed to make a play on the field to the explosiveness needed to take advantage of an opening in a fight. In closing, Villante talked about the need for legalizing MMA in his home state of New York.
