The UFC is booking fights left and right for what appears to be an incredible list of events that will take place in 2012, taking advantage of their new relationship with FOX.

UFC has confirmed via their website that top tier welterweights Thiago Alves and Martin Kampmann have verbally agreed to face one another in March 2012. The location and venue have yet to be determined by the UFC, but it’s looking like the event will take place in the early part of March and will air on the FX channel.

Both fighters are coming off much needed wins in their last outings.

Thiago Alves (19-8) bested UFC newcomer Papy Abedi at UFC 138 as he stunned him with punches before securing his first technical submission win via rear naked choke. Alves had won one of three fights going into the Abedi fight dating back to 2009.

Martin Kampmann (18-5) bested UFC welterweight Rick Story at UFC 139 in a grueling standup war that saw Kampmann finally get the nod from the judges after losing two debatable decisions to Jake Shields and Diego Sanchez .

Alves was beaten by Story prior to his bout with Abedi so these two fighters do share a common opponent. However, this bout has standup war written all over it as both fighters prefer to strike first and foremost so I wouldn’t draw many conclusions from the Story/Alves bout.
