HBO’s award winning 24/7 reality series goes behind the scenes for the upcoming Miguel Cotto vs. Antonio Margarito rematch scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 3, at Madison Square Garden in New York. Cotto’s WBA super light middleweight title will be on the line.
After 32 straight victories Margarito handed Cotto his first professional loss via 11th round TKO on July 26, 2008, in Las vegas. Cotto was ahead for much of the fight but Margarito hung tough and eventually rallied late in the bout. But the story was not over…
Controversy erupted six months later, just before Margarito’s next fight when a substance similar to plaster used to make casts was found in his handwraps. Fortunately for his opponent that night, Shane Mosley, the issue was taken care of before they ever got in the ring to fight.
However, when Cotto went back and began inspecting some photos of Margarito with his gloves off immediately after their fight six months earlier, it appeared his handwraps possibly had a crack in them. Cotto believes Margarito cheated in their fight using the “loaded” wraps.
Margarito of course denies any wrongdoing in the fight with Cotto and Mosely and insists he has never cheated. The bad blood between Cotto and Margarito will get settled once and for all on Dec. 3 in the ring. Cotto’s record stands at 36-2 with 29 KO’s, while Margarito’s record is
