No rest for the weary as UFC President Dana White confirmed to Ariel Helwani in a recent interview that the next UFC on FOX show will take place on January 28th, in Chicago. Of course, the initial UFC on FOX offering took place this past weekend breaking all UFC records in regards to viewership which featured the UFC heavyweight title fight on network television for the first time. Junior dos Santos knocked out Cain Velasquez in 64 seconds to become the new UFC heavyweight champion.

Some details.

  • This event will feature four fights instead of one.
  • There will be no title fight on this card.
  • White confirmed that there will be a ‘big’ fight headlining.

Now the term ‘big’ can be applied in many different ways. It could mean it would be a number one contender type of match with the winner getting a title shot depending on the weight division. It could mean that it’s two well known fighters with exciting fighting styles. You can bet your bottom dollar that it will be two fighters that are known to ‘bring it’ when they step inside the cage as this event will really provide a true indicator of what ratings will be for the UFC on FOX goin forward.

The initial UFC on FOX offering averaged 5.7 million viewers while peaking at 8.8 million viewers on a show that was only one hour long. This show in January is expected to be around 2 and a half hours long while featuring four fights which could surpass those numbers.
