The longest running mixed martial arts celestial radio show in the world returned to the air waves Thursday with host Darren McFarland, his sidekick and NFL veteran Brad Hopkins and MMA aficionado Chris Pappas.

Listeners got to hear about Chris’ martial arts background and  how he became involved with MMA. The guys also discussed the growth of the sport,  how a lot of professional athletes cross-train in MMA and comparisons between MMA fighters and other professional athletes.

With no guest (Goldy cancelled) the fellas were free to let the conversation flow. The subject of an MMA fighter’s mentality came up and why it is important for them not to be afraid to get hit. Of course this topic inevitably led to former heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar and the way he tends to react when getting hit.

And with Brad’s 13 years playing in the NFL (Oilers/Titans), he certainly has a deep understanding about that mentality of players who know how to take a hit and those who don’t and how that directly correlates to being able to take a shot inside the cage.

The guys also of couse discussed UFC 137, which takes place Saturday in Las Vegas, all the changes that have occurred with the card and the style match-ups between Matt Mitrione vs. Cheick Kongo, Roy Nelson vs. Mirko Cro Cop and the main event between B.J. Penn and Nick Diaz.

Be sure to voice your thoughts if you have any opinions on any of the topics discussed , and be sure to let Chris know what you think about him saying Diaz does not want any part of Penn’s ground game! (Follow the hosts on Twitter: Darren is @1stQuarter, Brad is @H702P and Chris is @Nashville_MMA)
