(135) Walel Watson vs. Joseph Sandoval

Round 1 – Watson high kicks over Sandoval’s head, lands a leg kick. Left jab from Watson. Jab, inside leg kick, again from Watson. Lands a low blow and time is given for Sandoval to recover. Watson is warned. Watson lands a shin to the chin with a head kick and Sandoval goes down. He gets right up but eats another head kick followed by several punches and Yamasaki stops the bout. Sandoval seems disappointed with the stoppage. Great showing by Watson in his UFC debut.

(170) Josh Neer vs. Keith Wisniewski

Round 1 – Leg kick from Neer, overhand right. Collar tie and knee from Wisniewski. Clinch and exchange of knees. Jab from Wisniewski, again. Neer with a leg kick, again, as he sits in the pocket. Neer with a collar tie but Wisniewski breaks free. Neer lands a couple shots, now working the body with punches as Wisniewski pushes him off. Knee from Wisniewski. Wisniewski doing a good job of making Neer miss his punches and he is blocking a lot of them too. Clinch, Wisniewski backs out as Neer stalks with punches. Leg kick from Neer, double jab. Body shots from Neer as Wisniewski grabs the collar tie. Both guys land some nice punches. Wisniewski with a body shot and a knee. Neer lands a nice one two. Nice knee from Wisniewski from the clinch, again. Neer lands a couple elbows. Two left hooks to the body from Wisniewski. Neer doubles over after the bell, his ribs may be hurt. Great round. 10-9 Neer.

Round 2 – Neer may have said his rib is broke between rounds. Jab from Neer, again. Big right on the end of it. Another jab, double jab from Neer. Two big elbows from Neer to the face. Nice right from Wisniewski. Neer lands some body shots and an elbow. Wisniewski not scared to stand right in the pocket with Neer. He eats more elbows from Neer. Body shot from Wisniewski. Uppercut from the clinch from Neer, elbow. Neer did say, it has been confirmed, he feels his ribs are broke. More elbows from Neer. Wisniewski fires back with a big elbow. This is a dog fight. Neer is pouring it on and Wisniewski’s face is a bloody mess. Wisniewski is still there though, hanging on in the clinch, lands some body shots. Ref halts the action so the doctor can check Wisniewski’s face. Wisniewski tells the doctor he is fine. Neer’s mouthpiece flew out when he got hit with an elbow and it’s under the cage right now. They are trying to find it. They found it thank goodness. Wisniewski goes for a single, eats a big elbow, more elbows and the dentist has turned into a surgeon tonight. More elbows from Neer as Wisniewski hangs in the clinch. He backs out and Neer works the jab as he stalks. Knee from Wisniewski and Neer fires one back. Three jabs and a biscuit from Neer, he locks in a standing guillotine and the blood pours out of Wisniewski’s head. The bell sounds. Ref calls for doctor again to look at Wisniewski. 10-9 Neer.

The doctor stops it, unfortunately. The cut on Wisniewski’s face is not even that bad to be honest. It’s over the eye but really not bad. Neer dedicates the fight to his grandpa who has cancer. Neer said his ribs are not broke and he did not say that between rounds but Rogan insisted he did and said they have the recording.

(155) Shane Roller vs. T.J. Grant

Round 1 – Grant with a right. Left hook. Nice uppercut from Roller but Grant puts him on his back. They scramble and Grant ends up in side control. Elbows from Grant from side control. Roller reverses, ends up on top with a guillotine. Grant escapes the guillotine but is still on bottom, he makes it to his feet and postures over Roller, moves into Rollers full guard. Grant with a nice right to the face. Grant stands up for a second as Roller throws an upkick. Grant moves back into guard then side control where he lands an elbow and punches as Roller gets to his knees. Grant lands some punches to the side of  Roller’s head as he turtles. 10-9 Grant.

Round 2 – Marc Laimon in Roller’s corner. The ref is Fernando Yamasaki, Mario’s brother. Leg kick from Grant. Left hook from Roller and a head kick from Grant that’s blocked. Jabs and a punch from Grant, then lands a few hard knees to the body and they clinch up against the cage. Nice knee from Grant, but Roller lands a nice uppercut. Big uppercut from Roller and Grant slams him hard. Roller catches him in a guillotine but Grant escapes. He advances to side control. Grant gets to his knees with a front headlock on Roller. Grant mounts for a second but Roller gets to his knees and they are fighting for position. Grant goes for a triangle, Roller ends up on top in half guard, they scramble and Grant throws on an armbar with under 10 seconds to go. Great round as the bell sounds. 10-9 Grant.

Round 3 – Roller’s right eye is swollen pretty badly. Left jab exchange. Grant reminds me of a little Matt Lindland, the way he looks mainly and kind of his fighting style.  Nice right hand from Grant stuns Roller. Elbow from Roller. Roller shoots and Grant sprawls. Roller pushes Grant against the cage as he fights for a single, Grant locks on a guillotine, switches to an armbar as Roller pops his head out. The ref stops it and Roller is very angry. The replay shows he never tapped and had his arms still connected. Bad bad mistake. They rule it a verbal tapout. Grant said Roller screamed and they are told before the fight that will be ruled a verbal submission. Roller says he didn’t scream but just grunted as he was trying to get out.

(138) Byron Bloodworth vs. Mike Easton

Round 1 – Easton walks to the cage and he is very hyped, jumping up and down. Rogan says he has never seen so much local support for  a fighter.  Easton using some footwork, moves out of the way of a flying knee, misses a leg kick. Throws a one two. Bloodworth taller. Inside leg kick from Easton. Bloodworth blocks a high kick after missing an overhand right. Easton blocks a head kick. Easton throws a punch combo as Bloodworth covers up. Easton with an inside leg kick. Bloodworth shoots, stuffed. Bloodworth puts him against the cage. Easton turns him to the cage. Knee to the thigh. Again. Again. Body shot. Ref separates them. Spinning back kick to the gut from Easton. Leg kick from Bloodworth. Bloodworth with a spinning nothing. Misses a teep. Big leg kick from Easton. Knee from Easton out of the clinch. Bloodworth shoots, Easton sprawls. Leg kick from Easton. 10-9 Easton.

Round 2 – Eric Del Fierro giving Easton advice. Leg kick from Easton. Jab from Bloodworth and eats a big leg kick. Again. Again. Again. He shoves off a takedown attempt. Leg kick from Bloodworth, shoots from the outside, stuffed. Uppercut from Easton. Leg kick from Easton. Easton with one hell of a scowl on his face. One two leg kick from Easton wobbles Bloodworth. Another leg kick. Leg kick from Easton. He’s stalking a retreating Bloodworth. Lands a low blow and time is called. Easton slips after blocking a head kick. Leg kick from Bloodworth. Big leg kick from Easton as he hunts. Easton presses him to the cage. Knee to the thigh. Bloodworth reverses position. Bloodworth tries to drop down for a takedown. Easton lands a three knees to the face, a knee to the body and one more big knee to the body and Bloodworth goes down. Easton finishes him off.

(155) Paul Sass vs. Michael Johnson

Round 1 – Jumping knee from Sass, looks for a takedown. Johnson escapes. Johnson shoves off another takedown attempt. Sass lands a right. Johnson knocks his leg out from under him with a kick, lands a big punch and Sass goes to his back. Johnson backs away as Sass goes for Johnson’s legs. Johnson ducks a spinning elbow, and Sass tries to pull guard. He locks up a heel hook, it looks nasty, he twists it and Johnson taps twice quickly. He may have broken something there. Johnson looks terribly dejected. Nasty nasty finish for Paul Sass and he remains undefeated. It’s his third consecutive heel hook in a row according to Rogan.

(155) Yves Edwards vs. Rafaello Oliveira

Round 1 – Head kick blocked by Edwards. Oliveira connects with a combo and backs Edwards against the cage where he is leaning on him, throws a knee, again. He backs out, leg kick on Edwards. Lands a combo and Edwards is bleeding over his eye. Head kick by Oliveira is blocked. Edwards kicks over Oliveira’s head. Edwards blocks a head kick. Leg kick from Oliveira. Edwards fires off a combo and a high kick but they are blocked. Oliveira fires back with a punch combo. Leg kick from Edwards. He blocks a head kick, lands a body kick. Leg kick from Edwards. Inside leg kick from Edwards. They both miss punches. Inside leg kick from Oliveira. Oliveira blocks a takedown attempt, kicks Oliveira on the way up. They fire off several big punches and both guys miss them all. 10-9 Edwards.

Round 2 – Ovince St. Preux’s coach from Knoxville Martial Arts is coaching Oliveira in his corner (sorry his name escapes me). Nice leg kick from Edwards, again. Right jab from Edwards. High kick from Oliveira, then a body kick. Body shot from Oliveira. He attacks Yves agains the cage and Edwards lands a big knee, Oliveira goes to his back, they scramble back to the feet. They exchange several punches but nothing lands until Edwards drops him with a big combo. He looked like he was out, but the ref lets it go. He eats big shots, but is back up and swinging. Yves drops him again with a head kick. Yves follows it up with several shots that land clean and I can’t believe this fight is still going. Finally after Yves gets a full back mount and continues pounding — Yamasaki finally stops it.

(155) Matt Wiman vs. Mac Danzig

Round 1 – Leg kick from Wiman. Clinch, knee to the thigh and then Danzig replies with some uppercuts still in the clinch. Danzig tries a head kick and gets dumped on his back. Wiman inside his full guard. Danzig holding his head, lets it go, grabs it again as they stand. Wiman shoots, has a single. Danzig goes for a guillotine but Wiman is out. Danzig fires off a nice punch combo and Wiman fires back. Leg kick from Wiman. Danzig with a collar tie, Wiman breaks out, leg kick. Again. Head kick. Wiman puts on the pressure with punches. Danzig fires back. Leg kick from Wiman. Clinch. Danzig lands an elbow and punch combo. Wiman fires back with punches, misses a big elbow. Lands a knee to the body. Body punches from Danzig. Knee from Wiman and a leg kick. Body shot and kick to the body from Wiman. Big uppercut from Danzig. Great back and forth battle here. Knee to the body from Wiman, again. Uppercut from Danzgi and elbow from Wiman. Wiman shoots, stuffed. Back tot he feet. Round of the night BY FAR! 10-10.

Round 2 – Jab from Danzig and Wiman kicks his leg out from under him. They clinch against the cage. Elbows from Wiman, punches from Danzig. Clinch again. Wiman pushing him against the cage. Wiman lands some elbows. They move out and Danzig gets the takedown. Danzig moves to side control. Wiman recovers guard. He throws up a triangle attempt, switches to an armbar. It’s tight. Danzig gets out and unleashes punches. Wiman locks on a kimura. Danzig gets free and lands some shots. They stand and Danzig lands a flurry of punches. Right hand from Wiman. Elbow from Danzig. Leg kick from Wiman. Leg kick from Wiman, he shoots, eats a punch. Elbow from Wiman, clinch, elbow from Wiman. Danzig 10-9.

Round 3 – Wiman comes out swinging. Lands a body kick. Leg kick from Wiman. Lands a punch. Nice right from Wiman. Elbow. Danzig lands some punches but nothing on them. Elbow from Wiman. Two more elbows. Another. Danzig lands a couple punches. They clinch, body shots from Danzig. Elbows from Wiman, punches from Danzig, elbows from Wiman, punches from Wiman, they stay in the clinch with all this. Wiman goes for a takedown but gets put on his back and seems to be tiring. Danzig riding his back, takes his back with on hook in. Wiman squats and shakes him off the top. Wiman on top in half guard now. Big big elbows from Wiman. More big elbows from Wiman. Danzig gets full guard. He’s trying to get up but Wiman tries to hold him. Danzig is up and they go to dirty boxing with 30 seconds left. Wiman shoots low, grabs a single. Danzig locks on a guillotine at the bell and Wiman sticks up his thumbs. This round should go to Wiman I think for all those damn elbows. 10-9 Wiman. But I have the fight a tie. But it’s so close I could see it go either way really. Wiman definitely got round three. The other two were almost too close to call for me.

(170) Charlie Brenneman vs. Anthony Johnson

Round 1 – Brenneman catches a leg, lets it go. He shoots under a kick, sprawl by Johnson. Presses Charlie’s head into the mat, punches his face. Punches his body and under his arm to the chin. Charlie on his knees. Takes a knee to the ribs, again, again. Punches to the body, Johnson stays on top, moves to half guard. Brenneman locks on a guillotine, not tight though. Johnson stands up, Brenneman tries to get up, eats a big punch and gets floored with a head kick that lands shin to chin. He goes down hard on his butt and Yamasaki stops it. Rogan and Brenneman thinks it was a bad stoppage. I do not. He got clocked bad! He was not laid out unconscious but he may as well have been. His head almost came off his shoulders guys!

Mario Yamasaki has reffed how many hundreds of fights? He was right there and saw that kick connect solid. He knew this fight was over, that’s it.

(HW) Stefan Struve vs. Pat Barry

Round 1 – For some reason I think Barry may try and get a head kick KO. Alot of times he kicks over his opponent’s head, that won’t happen tonight. Inside leg kick from Barry. Damn he is so tall. Inside leg kick from Barry. Barry misses an uppercut, lands an inside leg kick. Outside leg kick. Head kick from Struve is blocked. Punches from Struve, leg kick from Barry. Struve tries to come in close and Barry pushes him back a la Cro Cop. Leg kick from Barry. Inside leg kick from Barry and Struve checks it. Front kick from Struve on the end of some punches. Head kick from Barry, blocked. Knee from Struve. Kick to the knee cap from Struve. Head kick from Struve is blocked. Leg kick, again from Barry. Front kick to the knee again from Struve. Left hook from Barry. This reminds me of Kareem and Bruce. Head kick from Struve. Barry flies through the air at the bell. Mirgliotta says, (I think) “You guys need to step it up.” There were a few boos during the round. 10-9 Barry.

Round 2 – Yep, Mirgliotta says to “step it up” again. Barry tags Struve on the chin and Struve wobbles, then smiles. Head kick from Struve is blocked. Front kick to the knee from Struve. Leg kick from Barry. Struve hates it. Chopping kick from Struve to the leg. Big leg kick from Barry and Struve’s legs are red. He checks a leg kick. This is an awesome fight between two great strikers. Overhand right on top of Barry’s head from Struve. This may be one of the best heavyweight striking matches we have seen. Mirgliotta tells them to “step it up” everytime the crowd boos. They scramble and Struve puts Barry in a triangle. Barry picks him up over his head and slams him hard. Struve holds it on and Barry finally taps. Holy sh&t what a great fight! WWF couldn’t have scripted it better.

(135) Dominick Cruz vs. Demetrious Johnson

Round 1 – Mighty Mouse is so damn short. But I love his only sponsor is Xbox 360. Cruz lands a leg kick off the bat. Johnson presses in quick with punches. Nothing landing. Johnson shoots, stuffed, and eats body shots. Judo trip from Cruz, he lays on Johnson who has a butterfly. Cruz in side mount. Body shots from Cruz. Cruz moves to half guard. Now butterfly guard. Back tot he fence. Elbow from Cruz. Johnson is up, knee to the body. He’s chasing Cruz. Cruz catches a head kick and puts Johnson down. Johnson has a leg but Cruz is free, takes side control, to the feet. Johnson lands a nice left hook. Johnson gets a takedown but Cruz bounces right up. Knee from Cruz. Again. Right from Johnson. Knees from both. They scramble. Uppercut from Cruz. Johnson with a leg. Cruz breaks out. Head kick blocked by Johnson. Cruz 10-9.

Round 2 – Right counter and head kick from Johnson. Cruz ties him up, gets the takedown. Johnson’s back to the cage. Johnson gets to his knees and now is to his feet. Knee from Cruz, Johnson puts Cruz’s back to the cage. They trade knees. Knee from Cruz. Cruz with the footwork. He avoids Johnson’s strikes. Johnson shoots, stuffed. Clinch. Knee from Cruz. Clinched against the cage. They trade knees again. Knee from Cruz after a stumble by Cruz. Johnson drops down but can’t lift Cruz. Knee from Cruz almost connects to the head. Cruz dancing. Leg kick from Johnson. Uppercut from Cruz. Flying knee from Johnson. Jab from Cruz. Cruz lands a knee as Johnson shoots, stuffed. Cruz puts Johnson on his back. Inside full guard. Actually butterfly guard. Cruz mounts almost, Johnson has one foot under his legs. 10-9 Cruz.

Round 3 – Body kick from Cruz. Johnson strikes, Cruz makes him miss. Cruz clinches, lets go. Johnson with a left. Cruz coming forward. Makes Johnson miss. Cruz attempts a takedown, shook off, gets Johnson’s back and suplexes him straight back a la Jon Jones, beautiful. He has Johnson mounted on his back, going for the choke. They roll but Cruz is still mounted on his back. Neck crank. Johnson escapes to his feet. Punches, Cruz makes him miss, repeat. They move to the center. Dom misses a big uppercut. Cruz gets the takedown. On top , mounted on butterfly guard. Johnson’s back to the cage as Cruz lays on him trying to improve position. Johnson pushes him back with his feet. Cruz hangs on. Johnson is to his feet with 15 seconds to go. Clinch until the bell. 10-9 Cruz.

Replay of Dom’s suplex is absolutely beautiful.

Round 4 – Leg kick from Johnson, now inside. Cruz putting on the pressure. Leg kick. He trips, lands a stiff left. Johnson attacks, lands a right. Johnson attacks. Cruz gets a double leg takedown and he’s on top in half guard. This is where he’s really winning the fight over and over. Cruz gets full mount. Body shots from Cruz as Johnson holds on tight. Lefts to the jaw and head from Cruz. Johnson recovers full guard, butterfly. Gets his back to the cage and is up. He chases Cruz with punches. Knee from Johnson. Uppercut from Cruz as Johnson clinches up. Cruz gets the advantage, puts Johnson on his back, on top in half guard. Johnson is up and chasing Cruz. He lands a left. Cruz catches his kick. Awesome fight. 10-9 Cruz.

Round 5 – Amazingly, Cruz was barely breathing hard between rounds. Mighty Mouse was breathing even less hard. Big cheers. Touch gloves. Cruz comes in swinging big, Cruz suplexes him again just as before. The Dominator is living up to his nickname big time. Cruz in side control, now half guard. His versatility is really impressive. Elbow from Cruz inside full guard. Body shots. Johnson shrimping. Trying to get to the fence. He gets his back to the cage. Cruz trying to stop it. Just under three minutes to go. Cruz with a body lock but Johnson is up. Johnson connects with a punch and stuns Dom for a second but does not capitalize. He runs after Cruz with punches. Cruz judo throws him to the ground, they are up, he judo throws him again. Back up. Johnson is chasing him putting on the pressure with punches. Cruz ducks and gets the takedown. Full mount by Cruz. I feel like I’m on a ride at Disneyworld. Cruz with back mount. Johnson is up takes a knee. He swings on Cruz. Cruz gets another takedown. Amazing performance from the champ. No one can argue this guy belongs there.

Not sure what round was arguable for Johnson, but there ya have it. Johnson’s jaw is swollen huge. He said he thinks it was a knee. Johnson gives props to Cruz.
