DENVER – “UFC 135: Jones vs. Rampage” takes place this evening at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colo., and features UFC light heavyweight champ Jon “Bones” Jones vs. Quinton “Rampage” Jackson in the main event.

Also, UFC Hall of Famer Matt Hughes takes on late replacement Josh Koscheck, who wants to prove to the former welterweight champ it is time for him to retire.

James Te Huna vs. Ricardo Romero

Round 1 – Touch gloves. Romero reaches for a takedown, gets shrugged off then gets hurt with a right hand. He grabs a single, gets stuffed, and they are back to the feet. Shoots from outside, no setup, stuffed, repeat, except this time Te Huna has a big right uppercut waiting for him, he goes down, Te Huna lands one more right and knocks Romero out. It’s over… Romero is groaning. Replay shows he took at least two big shots after he was out.

Takeya Mizugaki vs. Cole Escovedo

Round 1 – One two leg kick from Mizugaki. Another one two and he scores. Nice left, right. Cole grabs a collar tie and throws a knee to the face, to the body. Mizugaki escapes and squares up, lands a right uppercut. Jab from Escovedo. Inside leg kick from Mizugaki. Body lock from Mizugaki, he lets it go and they struggle against the cage, both guys looking for the advantage. Knee to the body from Mizugaki and a right hand, grabs a body lock and puts Escovedo on his back. He trips Mizugaki and gets to his feet. Clinched against the cage, Escovedo jumps guard. Mizugaki slams him straight down and lands inside his guard. Mizugaki stands up and lets him up. Right to the body from Mizugaki. Inside leg kick, big right left from Mizugaki. Cole grabs a collar tie, lands a knee. Two more knees to the body, an elbow. Mizugaki grabs his on clinch and lands a knee. Big right elbow buckles Mizugaki, but he fires back with punches. Right hand from Mizugaki, body shot, big left to the body. Escovedo fires back with a knee. Awesome round of action. Mizugaki 10-9 as I see it.

Round 2 – Inside leg kick from Mizugaki, he then catches a kick from Cole and trips him on his back. He lets Cole up. One two from Mizugaki. Inside leg kick, outside leg kick. Inside leg kick. Right counter from Mizugaki, then a body shot. Left hook and a right from Mizugaki. Left counter and a right to the body. Escovedo with an inside leg kick. Head kick from Escovedo, he walks through it. Nice left to the body from Mizugaki. Left hook and a right, uppercut and left hook from Mizugaki knocks Escovedo back.  Right from Mizugaki. Nice left counter drops Escovedo. Mizugaki lets him up. Escovedo grabs a collar tie but eats about ten punches to the face. He won’t let the clinch go until he eats about four more big punches. Left to the body and a big right from Mizugaki. He drops Escovedo with another big shot, he somehow gets up and Mizugaki keeps firing off punches and Escovedo goes down again and he’s out and this fight is over. Great fight and great showing from Mizugaki.

Junior Assuncao vs. Eddie Yagin

Round 1 – No touch of gloves. Yagin is about two inches shorter on record but looks to be even shorter in real life. Right hand from Yagin just misses. Assuncao shoots and puts Yagin down on his back with little trouble. Assuncao postures up, Yagin throws his legs up, looking for something but Assuncao stacks him, lands a nice left to the face, again. Yagin kicks him off and gets up. Big right hand from Yagin. Assuncao ducks a punch and puts Yagin on his back again. Assuncao finishes the round inside full guard taking some elbows to the head. Assuncao 10-9.

Round 2 – Yagin stuffs a takedown and just misses a big knee to Assuncao’s head. Assuncao slips out of the way of a Superman punch. Assuncao shoots, Yagin gives his back, Assuncao jumps on with hooks in, puts his feet back on the ground and pushes Yagin against the cage. He backs out and they square up. Nice right from Assuncao. Shoots, stuffed. Front kick from Assuncao. Boos from the crowd. Left hook from Assuncao. Inside leg kick. Two minutes to go. Superman right hand from Yagin. Inside leg kick from Assuncao. Left hand from Assuncao. Heavy boos. Assuncao shoots, Yagin locks on a guillotine. Assuncao shakes his finger “No” and escapes to half guard. They are back to their feet. Leg kick from Assuncao. 10-9 Assuncao and the crowd boos.

Round 3 – Assuncao shoots, stuffed and pushed onto his back. He uses a butterfly guard and gets to his feet. Yagin swings with a big hook and misses. Assuncao shoots under a punch, Yagin grabs a guillotine and jumps on it. Assuncao slips out and drops down inside Yagin’s full guard. Assuncao postures up looking to advance position, lands several left hands in the process. Assuncao in half guard, lands a couple left elbows, more punches, right hands, more big lefts, rights, hammerfists. Assuncao holds Yagin’s neck momentarily, lets it go and fires off several more punches. The ref is standing right over them with under a minute to go. Yagin has taken a lot of punishment here but he’s not cut up or anything. One final knee to the ribs at the bell. 10-9 and 30-27 for Assuncao as I see it.

Nick Ring vs. Tim Boetsch

Round 1 – Front kick from Boetsch, inside leg kick. Ring moving laterally, dodging punches, he throws a head kick that is blocked. Boetsch hunting. Ring catches a teep and trips Boetsch to the ground. Ring grabs a front headlock as Boetsch is on his knees. Ring gives him a knee to the shoulder. Again. Again. They are back up. Left hook from Boetsch connects. Front kick from Ring. Right jab. Boetsch hunting. Ring catches his front kick again. Lets it go. Boetsch chases Ring and connects with a one two. Shoots, stuffed. Lands a right hooks. Ring with a right. Uppercut from Boetsch. 10-9 Boetsch.

Round 2 – Front kick from Ring. Right hook from Boetsch. Nice right by Boetsch snaps Ring’s head back. Left hook from Boetsch. Nice leg kick from Ring. Right jab. Boetsch chasing him around the ring, lands a right. Right from Ring. Boetsch dodging Ring’s punches, lands a right that drops Ring, he gets right up and pushes Boetsch into the cage. Ring throws a knee, Boetsch catches it and dumps him. Ring gets up but Boetsch jumps guillotine. Ring pops his head out and is now on top inside full guard with just under two minutes to go. Boetsch holding on, Ring on his knees with a front head lock but Boetsch gets up and rocks Ring with a punch. He’s hunting Ring, walking him down. Several rights and a left from Boetsch. They clinch up, Ring holding on and Boetsch dumps him on his back, locks up a kimura but the bell sounds. Boetsch 10-9.

Round 3 – Boetsch already hunting. Right hand from Boetsch as they clinch up against the cage. Ring backs out. Boetsch using good head movement. Lands a left hook, knee to the head from the clinch. He pushes Ring against the cage. Ring gets off the cage but Boetsch drives him against the opposite wall. Ref splits them up. Right hooks and a left hook from Boetsch. Right jab from Ring. Boetsch pushes him to the cage, Ring reverses but Boetsch trips him to the ground. Boetsch on top inside full guard with two minutes to go. Boetsch using some small hammerfists. Ref warns them and stands them up. Knee to the body from Boetsch. He grabs Ring under one arm and places his leg in front of Ring’s legs and flips Ring to his back. He sent that boy into the air! He gets the mounted crucifix but Ring escapes. Boetsch gets full mount, moves to side control and has Ring’s arm locked between his legs. Boetsch postures up with punches at the bell. Boetsch’s judo throw takedown is shown in replay and it is magnificent!

Tony Ferguson vs. Aaron Riley

Round 1 – Ferguson blocks a head kick, lands an inside leg kick. Riley stalking. Inside leg kick from Ferguson. Side kick. Inside leg kick from Riley, throws a head kick and gets dumped. Riley is right up though and goes back to standing in front of Ferguson. Riley eats a nice one two. Nice exchanges going on here. Riley slipping many of the punches but gets tagged with a big one two, a body shot, he got wobbled for a second there. Left hand from Ferguson. Ferguson stalking now. Nice right from Ferguson, left hook. Fast fast pace here. Inside leg kick from Riley and Ferguson gives him a leg kick back. Body shot from Riley but Ferguson fires back. Right from Riley. Nice round for Ferguson 10-9. Riley says his jaw is broken and the doctor stops it. Replay shows a big left uppercut from Ferguson that likely broke Riley’s jaw. Big win for Ferguson.

Nate Diaz vs. Takanori Gomi

Round 1 – Goldy called Diaz’s boxing style the “Stockton slap”. Diaz throwing a jab. Drops Gomi with a hard jab. Diaz lands a body shot with a right. Diaz stalking with his straight punches and jabs. Body shot by Gomi, Diaz counters with a nice right hook. One two from Diaz. Diaz taunts with his chin. Right jab from Diaz and Gomi swings big and misses. Diaz taunts, lands a one two. Right hook. Nice head movement from Diaz, taunts, one two. One two. Diaz drops him with a one two, he’s up and Gomi gets a single leg but Diaz takes his back and lands several punches. Diaz is back to his feet and is picking Gomi apart. Gomi can’t do anything. Gomi gets him to the ground and Diaz throws up an armbar immediately. Switches to a triangle. Gomi slams him. But just makes it tighter. Diaz switches to an armbar and Gomi taps out. Perfection from Mr. Diaz!

Travis Browne vs. Rob Broughton

Round 1 – Browne lands a leg kick. They tie up and hit each other’s thighs. Browne pushing on Broughton against the cage. Knee on the break. Leg kick from Browne. Inside leg kick from Browne. Outside leg kick from Browne. Jab jab from Browne. Leg kick. Browne staying light on his feet, misses a front kick to the face. Big right hand from Browne counters a leg kick. Big leg kick from Browne. Left hook from Browne and a right hand counter from Broughton. Big overhand right from Browne, leg kick. Big left hand from Browne rocks Broughton, they tie up against the cage. Right hand on the break from Broughton. Inside leg kick from Broughton and Browne easily puts him on his back, gets full mount, half guard now. Browne 10-9.

Round 2 – Double jab misses by Broughton. Inside leg kick. Front kick and a right from Browne, both miss. Left jab from Broughton misses as Browne slips it then lands a big leg kick. Browne keeping his hands very low. Right to the body, leg kick from Browne. Front kick to the face but Broughton catches it, lets it go. Inside leg kick from Broughton. Boos. Browne unleashes with a big combo of punches, he clinches up and pushes Broughton to the cage. Broughton backs out. They tie up; body shot from the clinch from Broughton. Browne holding on and Broughton backs out. Big leg kick from Browne. Again. Left hand from Broughton. Browne gets a single leg takedown very easy and easily gets mount. Browne lands a couple punches. Broughton gives up his back with ten seconds to go. Regains guard. 10-9 Browne.

Round 3 – Leg kick from Broughton. Left hook. Browne slowing down, looks very tired. Big overhand right from Broughton. He pushes Browne to the cage, backs out. Browne gets the single leg takedown, lands a big right, gets half guard. Browne moves almost to full mount but Broughton  gets out and gives up his back, he rolls to his back and Browne has full mount. One and a half minutes to go. Broughton gets back to guard, using butterfly now has full guard, looking for a kimura. Browne moves to side control and escapes. Broughton gets to his knees, trying to get up, he’s up. Browne hanging on. 10-9, 30-27 for Browne. He hangs on to the cage completely exhausted.

Ben Rothwell vs. Mark Hunt

Round 1 – Rothwell with the height advantage. Left hand from Hunt. Ben shoots, stuffed. Left hook from Hunt. Ben feints a takedown. He’s finding success with that left. Ben lands a left jab. Right hand from Hunt. Left hook. Left hand from Hunt. Ben gets the takedown and moves right to full mount. Hunt escapes the mount but Ben has side control and has Hunt pinned to the cage. Hunt explodes to his feet. Rothwell shoots, stuffed. Right hand from Hunt. Rothwell shoots. Has a single but Hunt escapes it. Nice right from Hunt, again. Hunt stuffs a takedown and puts Ben on his back. Hunt in side control but can’t hold him and Rothwell is up. Left jab. Rothwell’s eye is bloody. Rothwell shoots, gets Hunt down against the cage and lands a couple elbows. Ben lands some right hands before the bell. 10-9 Rothwell.

Round 2 – Left hook from Hunt. He’s breathing heavy. Big big breaths. Big leg kick from Hunt. Rothwell not doing anything so far. Misses a couple jabs. Big leg kick from Hunt buckles Rothwell. Ben with his hands down, shoots, tries for a double but Hunt is free, lands a big one two on Ben and gets a takedown, has side control on Ben. Rothwell has full guard now. Hammerfists from Hunt. Ben has half a butterfly. Big elbows from Hunt and Rothwell already has a pretty nasty cut on his head. Hunt with left hands to the face and body. Rothwell eats a big right and Hunt moves to side control. Knee on belly from Hunt, lands two big rights. Ben scrambles to his knees. He eats several rights from Hunt. Hunt gets mount, goes for an armbar with ten seconds to go. Hunt 10-9. Great fight and Ben can’t even stand up. Duke Roufus literally had to lift him up.

Round 3 – Hunt smells blood, lands a big uppercut, another one. Ben shoots, eats a right and he’s hurt, he wobbles. Spinning elbow from Hunt misses. Hunt puts him on his back. Ben with full guard. Ben is exhausted. Ref stands them up. Uppercut from Hunt. Ben shoots from the outside, stuffed. Jab from Rothwell, he shoots, stuffed. Ben on his knees as Hunt rides his back, lets him up. They trade shots. Both guys are exhausted. Hunt puts his hands on his hips. Stuffs the takedown then takes Ben down. Hunt pins down the right hand and lands a couple shots. Hunt with hammerfists from side control. Ref stands them up much to the anger of Rogan. Uppercut from Hunt, jab, and two big hooks. Ben puts his hands on his knees. Hunt shoots, stuffed. Ben tries to mount, lands a hammerfist. 10-9 and 29-28 for Hunt as I see it.  Man I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone as tired as Ben Rothwell was in this fight.

Matt Hughes vs. Josh Koscheck

Round 1 – Very strange to see Pat Miletich back in Hughes’ corner. Robbie Lawler and Jens Pulver also with him; just like the old days. Could be a sign that he may retire tonight after this fight. Hughes lands the first jab. Again. Kos wipes his eye. Hughes using that jab. Misses a couple hooks. Nice jab from Hughes. Kos wobbles Matt with a nice left hook. Jab from Hughes. Hughes lands a left as Kos looks at the clock. One two from Hughes, left hook. Uppercut from Kos. Hughes lands a jab. Kos’s eye swelling. Nice uppercut from Hughes. Left hook and uppercut from Hughes. He slips Ko’s combo counter. Kos attempts a sneaky takedown, stuffed. Hughes lands a knee. Jab from Hughes. Kos lands an uppercut, hurts Hughes with a right. Hughes fires back but Kos lands a couple big shots. Hughes goes down to his back. Kos stands over him and lands some big shots, Hughes tries to roll but Kos stops him with some big hammerfists and Hughes is out and this fight is over folks. Four big hammerfists shown on the replay. There was literally one second left. Rogan says “the end of a long and illustrious career”. Maybe he knows something we don’t.

Jon Jones vs. Quinton Jackson

Round 1 – Jones cartwheels in the ring. Jumps high in the air. He doesn’t look at Rampage during the staredown. He looked straight down. He comes out crawling on his hands, goes for a takedown, eats a knee. They are clinched as Jackson stopped the takedown. Jones pressing on Rampage against the cage. Rampage turns him around, lands a knee to Jones’ thigh. Elbow from Jones from the clinch. Jones with knees from the clinch, foot stomp. Jones tries to trip Rampage or acts like he is going to but doesn’t go for it. They separate. Front kick from Jones. Head kick. Rampage coming in. Inside leg kick from Jones. They clinch, Jones throws him to the side. Body shot from Rampage. He blocks a head kick. Kick to the knee from Jones. Nice leg kick from Jones buckles the leg. Front kick. Inside leg kick. Front kick to the knee. He jumps like he was going to side kick but doesn’t kick. Clinch, Jones pushes Jackson to the cage. Jackson misses an uppercut and Jackson blocks a spinning elbow. Jackson back Jones up with a punch. Jackson ducks a wheel kick. Jackson swings big at the end looking to connect but Jones slips every one. Replay shows Jones spinning elbow landed on top of Jackson’s head. 10-9 Jones.

Round 2 – Rampage’s corner told him over and over to find his range. Leg kick from Jones, again. Rampage backs him up with the clinch, but Jones pushes Jackson back. Jackson ducks a spinning elbow. Side kick to the knee and thigh from Jones. Jackson almost falls as he throws a leg kick. Left hand from Jones. Body kick. Front kick and he backs up as Jackson swings.  Jackson blocks a kick. Jackson can’t seem to land anything so far. Leg kick from Jones, clinches, and Jones backs out. Front kick from Jones to the body. Body kick. Leg kick from Jones. Left hand from Jackson. Test of strength. Spinning back kick to the body from Jones.  Head kick blocked. Side kick to the body backs Jackson up. Left hook from Jackson. Left hand from Jones, again. Clinch. Knees from both. Jones jumped into a triangle but it’s too late. 10-9 Jones.

Round 3 – Jones catches a leg kick. Jackson swings for the fences but misses as Jones stumbles out of a clinch. Nice leg kick from Jackson. Side kick to the knee from Jones. Nice left from Jones, leg kick. Jones with a takedown, moves to side control. Full mount. Jones scoots him to the cage. Rampage tries to hold his wrist but Jones lands a couple elbows. Jackson sweeps and is to his feet. Page is bleeding. Body kick from Jones, front kick to the jaw. Jackson inching forward. Page misses a left right. Nice leg kick from Jones. And aone two and a kick to the knee that hurt Page. Jackson almost takes his head off with two punches but Jones gets out of the way. Right hand from Jones. Jones’ arsenal is amazing. Huge variety. Less than a minute to go. Flying knee from Jones. Jones drops his hands and taunts. Jones standing with his hands down. He drops for a takedown before at the bell. Puts Page down for a “dis” after the bell. 10-9 Jones.

Round 4 – First time Jones has been to the fourth round. Jackson hunting. Jones hurts him with a left hook. Jackson ducks a left, clinches, Jones puts Rampage down against the cage, big knee to the body. He takes Jackson’s back and locks up a choke. Jackson taps out and Jones crawls off.

Jackson said he wants to fight Shogun in Japan in February.  Rampage said afterward that Jones is for real, he thought he was hype but, he’s for real.

Rashad comes into the cage and faces off with Jones. Jones said, “He’s ruined my special moment twice now.”
